Best RPG Maker?

Go with either RMXP or RMVXâ€"really the only big difference for a newcomer would be the appearance of their RTP. They're both good introductions and have plenty of advanced options. Once you're comfortable with one, it might be worth it to check out the other.

In all honesty, RM2K and RM2K3 are outdated. Yeah, I do have a special place for them in my heart, and so do most people around here, which is why they use them. But nowadays, RMXP and VX are the standard that you hould start with, especially when you consider their more advanced functionalities like their much more powerful handling of graphics, not to mention their RGSS features.

And if you're feeling ballsy, you might want to check out Enterbrain's newest and most versatile (but more complicated) programâ€"Action Game Maker.

When he walked around you and whispered in your ear that was the freakest part for me.

Yeah, when he whispered and then the little chuckle after itâ€"I nearly jumped out of my chair.

This was really cool, I wasn't expecting anything fun. I found this interestin enough to tweet.

Takuto: Episode 7... (May 27, 2009)

Forgive my artwork, it's not the best.

Quite the understatement. Your artwork is hardly present.

This is not an "indie anime"â€"these are storyboards, and not particularly entertaining (or well-drawn) ones at that. I meanâ€"if it's enough for you, then go for itâ€"but if you want to produce a serious product, then you will need to do more than compile together 3-second sketches and slap some poorly-written dialogue on top of it.

Type Racer

I'm averaging the high-60s, low-70s. What bothers me is the punctuation. My keyboard isn't that great, and I hate missin letters and having to hit the button harder. I don't know. The ame is pretty addicting, though, and I like how they show where the quote is from after the race.

Just did a quote that used space hyphen space instead of a proper emdash. I have my keyboard mapped for easy emdash access, and I got held up trying to figure out what exactly they were trying to do.

Yeah, that's probably the worst "fail" image I've seen by far, if you're trying to say that the guy in the front isn't who it's talking about. Are you trying to say that the guy with all the people around him is cool or something, because he looks like a much bigger douchebag than the guy in the back.

What does that have to do with Hero's Realm anyway?

*posts overized really old 4chan memes on an rpgmaker forum*

Oh boy, this is so witty and clever. I've made a real good point here! :-*

Talking about broken links, does anyone still have (could upload again please :P) the RMVX tileset templates by Despain?

I know this is old, but I'll re-upload them. They're not special, and a bit outdated, but it was an explanation of how the tiles work for people who wanted to make custom ones.

Band Art Game!

I did three. The first one is my favorite of them by far:

Released in the summer of 2006, "The spark that must not go out" catapulted lesbian pop singer Ride into superstardom. Ride's unique voice, mixed with the haunting lyrics on the title track, cemented the album on a top position on charts all over America.

Famed opera singer Domenico Bidognetti covers new ground with his experimental album "Hook up with them later", in which his rendition of Wagner's "Tristan and Isolde" is put to the backdrop of fast-paced electronica. When asked about the unique musical hybrid, he claimed that this was his "way of connecting with the modern digitial age".

Plymouth Meeting Mall's "Imaginings of a mere mortal" is the punk group's most recent release after their 2003 failure "Look up and see them". Unfortunately, the album has had an unimpressive initial release, which led last month's much-publicized suicide of lead singer Sid Emery.

RPG Intros

I skimmed through this whole topic. A lot of valid points were made, and a lot of really stupid things have been said. I wasn't planing on reploying, but I saw this and just couldn't help it:

If your gameplay isn't that strong, you might as well make a longer intro

REALLY

Did somebody seriously say this? You need to go back and start re-learning how to aproach game-making, my friend.

I've also seen some anime kid talking about how he can be creative and shopw off how skilled at writing he is with long introductions. Bullshit. If you are able to be CONCISE and CLEAR and QUICK with your writing, then you are a better writer. This is one of the most important things that I have learned in my past four years as an English majorâ€"if you are able to say the same thing as somebody else, but in less words, then you are the better writer.

A lot of people don't seem to get how incredibly important conciseness is. I guarantee that your introductions are too long. Sure, they might be nice or whatever and fill you with a sense of pride, but if you cut the first ten minutes from your games, then I guarantee that it will be better overall.

Hemmingway once said something along the lines of all beginning writers should take their big work and cut the first fifteen pages. When you think about it, it applies to all sorts of thingsâ€"especially games. People want to GET INTO IT already, they don't give a fuck about the past thousand years of hitory of your shitty fantasy world (they've probably heard it all before anyway), and they certainly don't give a shit about mysterious cloaked characters who speak about mysterious happenings which won't be relevent until the end of the game anywayâ€"which you will never get around to making, so just forget about it.

Oh, cool, I didn't see your edit. Thanks.

Hero's Realm's early FF rips turn me off horriblyâ€"if it's anything like the title and the graphics hint at, it's the kind of old-school game wher you just walk around and kill monsters. Not that it's necessary a bad thing, but that style of game bores the hell out of me. Exit Fate isn't RPGMaker enough for me, if that makes sense (and Last Scenario looks too RMXPâ€"and I want something pleasantly 2K/3). It doesn't look like it has the kind of inspirational charm that I'm looking for. Maybe I'm ust really picky, but I plan to sink a good amount of hours into the games.

I'm gonna try my hand at Balmung Cycle, even though the graphics originally threw me off (I've seen those graphics used in a million games). It does look well-made, though. I'll probably do a review or something eventually. Thanks.

Epic Dungeon Monster Explore

I don't see how this kind of game is fun at all. All these games where its just wandrin around and fighting aren't fun to me. I want a good setting, characters, and story.

Ascendence looks cool, but there's only a demo released. Most of these only have demos. Is there anything complete?
