The RMN Epic Forum Story

Luckily for me I had a firearm of my own. Back then, this was before her nostrils were hairy, so don't worry, sonny- I didn't get my weapon tangled.

Your Priorities

I've given up on hoping for consistently long ago sadly. These days it seems like a blessing. ;_;

I need help.

ok this is just a simple question.
WHICH THING TO I PUT IN ON RPGXP TO UPLOAD IT TO THIS SITE? THE RGSS PLAYER OR THE THING THAT SHOWS THE ARROWS OUTSIDE OF THE BALL?
here is another question LOL.
I KEEP ON TRYING TO PUT MY GAME IN THE THING BUT IT WON'T WORK. I PUT IN THE ONE SCREENSHOT AND THE EVERYTHING ELSE THAT'S REQUIRED AND IT STILL DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!1

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I had to quote this to read your question. Don't fucking use the marquee tag.

It's also hard to understand your question. I assume you're asking about uploading a game demo? You should probably compress the game first (using the RMXP program, there's an option to compress game data), and then zip the .exe file that it produces.

Maybe be a bit clearer on what you're asking. Don't use generalities like "put my game in the thing".

? help on RPGXP thing ? PLEASE PLEASE!

I'm not even going to check that site. If I were you I'd delete it as soon as possible and get the real version.

You can find it here.

If you're dead set on pirating- there are ways to do it for the real English translation without using- whatever that is. I'd suggest buying the program, though. It's only 60 dollars- that's less than one full day's work with minimum wage here, and showing your support for the company would help encourage more English releases in the future.

Despain: that's really pretty. Did you make the graphics yourself? Serious props.

Most of the graphics are severely edited RTP. Although a lot of them, such as the camel that everyone seems to love, were made from scratch. :-)

I actually have a similar question for WIP. Are those tiles rips from Metroid or original? Because the grass and cliffs are fucking incredible. I'm probably going to be using those for reference when I work on the graphics for my platformer package.

Sandfall has something that most games today lack-- black people.

Your Priorities

Even a game with poor gameplay (read: Sandfall demo)

It was a bug >:(

Some questions

RMXP supports any size of sprites, so long as it's divided into 16 equal frames. Four across, and four down.

Note that when he sees equal, it doesn't necessarily mean square- the frames could all be rectangular with different width and lengths, as long as each of the frames is the same. I have some really wierd-looking charactersets that are really short and really wide, like the motorcycle one I've made.

Finally, I have seen a gew screenshots in where RPGMaker XP uses life bars in a third person battle system (at least I think it's XP), I've looked around quite a bit and not found any RPG Maker with this battle system, the question here do people rewrite the code or whatever themselves? And if so how?

Often it'd be done through scripting, like Chartley said, but like RM2K and RM2K3, it's possible to use events and pictures to create the same effect.

Your Priorities

In most of my games, especially in Sandfall, it's all about atmosphere. A consistent and unified, detailed and rich, setting really makes the game and is something that I always try to hit. Graphics are obviously very big here, but it goes beyond that, into sound, as well as map design and the dialogue of the most irrelevant NPC. My worlds need to feel alive. It's about immersion into the experience, and I think that the atmosphere is really key in making a lasting impression.

After that would be the story and the characters.

I don't consider gameplay in here, because gameplay should be an element in everything and not a single focus. Rather than being a priority, it's a sort of super-priority that is weaved throughout everything else. It's the reason that we're not writing books- these games are meant to be interactive. Thus, gameplay factors into all other aspects of the game design. For example, gameplay and atmosphere blend in Sandfall- as you explore the cities and walk past certain NPCs, sound effects can be heard to reflect the surroundings.

The story planning process

If you care about what I do in detail, I wrote an article about it here.

But to skip all that long stuff, for me it's all about characters and individual scenes. I spend lots of time daydreaming- and usually imagine all of the major cut scenes or big plot points in pretty cinematics in my head. This helps a lot with character development. After a while it all just goes together and becomes something pretty cool.
