ELDER71'S PROFILE

Hi, I'm Stephen, lead designer of OMNIS - The Erias Line.
Aspiring game-dev, societal drop-out, coffee drinker, chain vaper. Pixel tweaker. Location maker. Character dreamer-upper.
Also a part-time Parallax Mapper available on commission.
(contact me re: commissions at elder71@hotmail.co.uk)
ALSO - I like reviewing games. If you're looking to get your game fairly reviewed with constructive criticism/feedback, PM me or email me or otherwise contact me telepathically. My messenger-pigeon service is out of order following an unfortunate incident that involved a jumbo-jet engine.
Cheers,
S.E

It'd be great if you'd give my game a swing.
It's called "OMNIS - The Erias Line", I'm itching for more feedback.
Here's its game page.
Completely custom sprites, maps, battlers, battlebacks and music. Hope you enjoy.

[RM2K3] How would I create an "Undead" condition.
It seems mad that this would be impossible to implement, given RPGMaker's flexibility and how important a running theme the 'undead state' is in jrpgs.
How dissimilar are 2003 and VX Ace? I'd like to investigate this, but if the differences are too big then I probably can't be of any help.

[Poll] Which demake would you like to see?

The Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake was on this site for a while and managed to recreate both the first dungeon and the battle system ridiculously super accurately.
Then the guy quit, because it took him like six years just to get this far, and he was maybe 5% of the way done if you were being super optimistic. Can't blame him. But still, holy shit, look at this thing.
The Braver animation is especially cool.

I wonder what an FF1 demake would look like.
I picture a 2x2 resolution white screen wherein you move a black pixel around to the sound of white noise. A demake of that would just be a piece of wood.

Graphics have been what Final Fantasy has hinged on since FF7. And having the party members follow a coherent theme instead of being a hodgepodge of assorted misfits is a nice change, honestly.
I'm not saying I don't seriously fucking hate what I've heard about the game, though. I do. Just different parts than you, I guess.
It's just a sense I get that the series' focus on graphics has been steadily overtaking every other consideration since FFX. XIII was a gorgeous looking nightmare of a game (insert: points about linearity, etc). I readily admit that I have a nostalgic fondness for the series midriff that's probably clouding any notion of objectivity, but I suppose I've just become jaded by how much the AAA game industry relies on exaggeration and embellishment in its marketing.
Sidenote: Not trying to spark this argument here as well, just feels good to let a bit of steam off :)

I vote preemptively for a demake of FFXV. For several reasons, chief amongst them:
1. The main cast appears to be a jpop boyband - it's the least diverse and the least interesting looking cast of characters to date.
If it was demade, they would hopefully be forced to inject a bit of variety to differentiate between the sprites.
2. (rant)I never look to an RPG for graphics. And graphics seem to be what XV is hinging on. Next-Gen capabilities have given Square even more license to get even more distracted from their stories. Personally, I'd rather they focused the weight of their attention on story and characters and not on gimmicky fight systems, which - if this was demade - they'd be less able to do. (/rant)

Thought I'd add some more screens that hint at the story goings-on rather than just the looks of the thing

I worked and reworked the new HUD design until I hit upon a nice level of contrast. I wanted the windows to be half size and only one column wide, I'll maybe work on that in the future

Used this for a #Screenshotsaturday post - it's a bit big for the format, but works well enough I think.

Honestly bad game design on my part. I kinda didn't consider that some people's screens may be darker/the enemies too hard to make out.
Depending on your level they ARE killable (Libby killed all three) and depending on your route through the room you can avoid all the fights...
It's definitely something I'll be fixing up, though. I don't think that room really worked.
Well I was worried about my RPGing skills for a moment there.
