The bottom one. The image has more meaning to me visually. Maybe a font change, though... It looks nice, but its hard on the eyes to me.

Yanfly Engine Ace - Element Absorb

Nice script, Yanfly. Great work as usual. Kinda odd how they removed the absorb function...

'The Heck?

Yeah, I can save maps outside RPG Maker 2009, In 2003 it works fine. I got the error in 2k3 once, so I thought it'd be the same, but I just tested it again and I get no errors. I'll have to consult Cherry.

'The Heck?

So I turned off my laptop yesterday to go to school. RPG Maker was working fine up until I got a Map tree break error in my project. However I repaired it, and got back to renaming my maps. Since then, every time I open RPG Maker 2009 ultimate and save maps, I get this error. This happens every time I try to test play my project, save a map change, or even try to select other maps.

The error is just for a map I took the shot with, but this happens with every map I try to save. (Map0079 ect). Then it proceeds to give the recurring error for that map ID every time I try to scroll to another map. (For example, I select Sky City, but it keeps saying "Map0078.lmu" cannot be created, and this recurs every time I click on another map.)

I even went as far as to go into the temp folder and find ULTTMP00, but it says the file is corrupt or unreadable (which sure as hell wasn't a few days ago. I've tried reinstalling RPG Maker 2003 and RPG Maker 2009 ultimate, resetting my laptop several times, but I still receive the same error.

Any form of help would be appreciated, as I plan to move my 2k3 project over to VXace, but I need to finish up the end of this current project.

Coming close to blowing up because I nearly lost my entire 2k3 project due to the map tree error. Recovering the map names, redoing ALL the areas aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand trying to put them into the right Child / Mother header maps.
Y'all know what I'm going to say.

Should've gone to use Ace?

Funny, because now that I've received this error about 4 times, I'm prompted to just scrap 2k3 and move to XVa. I mean, I have it. I like it. All I need to really do is learn Parallax Mapping, and get to grips with the pleasures of alpha channels / fresher graphics as well as just the engines interface. I'm actually looking forward to editing a few tiles so I can carry on my floating world idea.

Voice acting in games

I took what I said and added a bit from another thread in which had a similar situation.

Ha. Voice acting. Good luck with the 3-8+mb recordings per file, let alone several files for each of your characters. Voice acting is in chunks. Chunks mean files. Files mean space, space means size. Size means how long it'll take to download your game. If its over 220 MB, people would be driven away from your game, instead of toward.

I do like a bit of voice acting but,

1. You have to have a specific mic. A "normal one" won't just magically work. If you can deal with an annoying fuzzy sound, or white sound for that matter, so be it. Just remember that people are sensitive about voice acting. They may not appreciate it.

2. To make voices really effective, you need proper voice editing software. Sure you can get cracks and trails. It's the internet after all, but spending 5 minutes to edit just a single voice file is just a bit of a time waste.

3. More than likely, people will charge for voice acting. I've heard of people charging up to £14 (Probably something like $17) just to read a single batch of text which is no more than 200 words. Money which I wouldn't be bothered to waste. Especially if my game isn't even going to be commercial anyway.

Instead I would just rather use snippets of voices. Like in battles, or the occasional "Huh?" "No way!" in Cutscenes. Full voice acting in indie games is a bit over the top.

Again, size is always a problem with voice acting, and often to substitute for its massive size, you usually avoid using MP3s and have to stick with MIDIs. Which isn't a very wise, nor productive game development method.

TLDR; Voice acting is a dangerous option for indie game makers. Because of space, and quality. You often have to sacrifice other files which take up a lot of space (MP3s) in order to at least "balance" out the size superiority. Use at risk.

Negative. I had the floating world idea in my head even before I knew Ara Fell even existed.
I hate when that happens. You think you have a novel idea, and then you find out it's either been done or bears striking resemblance to something else.

Yeah, that's it. Once I did find out it existed, I knew I'd be in for "Oh, that looks like Ara Fell". But I wasn't going to give up my idea I'd had since I was 9/10. I'm just gonna have to deal with it. Though I do give Ara Fell my accommodation, because it was a really good and well presented game.

EDIT: KW, that's a nice looking map :D Keep up the good work!

A few questions about programming.

It's a good skill to have, especially if you work with computers a lot. It's not just for programming games, after all. It's a universal language that every computer understands. It's like an english formation of binary language.

Yay.

A few questions about programming.

You can't use C(++) in RPG Maker VX at all! See, RPG Maker VX uses its own language, Ruby. Or RGSS2. It's a completely different language to C at a whole new level. The only resemblance they have is that they both have "if" statements, and they have coloured command coding!

College Level Algebra takes awhile to learn. But it can be done. Even if you suck at maths (Like I do, maths isn't one of my strong points at all.) I suggest you study maths hard now like I am if you plan to start coding in C(++) before moving on to college.
