What music gets you going/pumped up?

Going to post one of my favourites which always cheers me up if I'm feeling down.
(Oddly, it also helps me draw manga. I wonder why?)

Enmity

An enmity based system is rather nice. It was executed beautifully in FF11, and I'd like to see it again.

The only problem that I have with it is that in an RPG (Which is generally and mostly turn based), this can be a sort of game-breaking hidden stat. I mean, tanking with a paladin while a mage nukes is a nice idea, but eventually when that paladin is able to take a beating for almost no damage while the mages get free reign with focusing heals on the Paladin, it's going to get kind of repetitive and easily driven. Even if the "hate" only lasts for a couple of turns, it still offers 2 turns of no damage(HIGH DEF vs Monster attack vs Healing) and Magical Firepower + the 4th member (If you have 4 members in your battle party) is pretty much overdrive.

To solve this you could have "enmity spikes" which basically means, a chance an attack from the player on an enemy while that enemy is focusing on another target infuriates it *deep breath* and instantly sheds all "hate" for its target, and switches to the attacker which initiated the "enmity spike".

The Screenshot Topic Returns

Ah, an CBS inspired by FFXIII (The outlook, attack and TB system) I like it!

Some of the words are a bit blurred, but other than that, it's sexy lookin'.

Eventing and coding! seeing if i can get my time bar to move, and i don't know anything about releasing demos and how long. If i do i may just set it for um, some exploring in one of the towns, to play one of the scenes and test out the battle system

It depends what you want to display in your demo, most demos are a few hours long (which in my case is a bit long, but suitable). 30 minutes of seeing the games interface is enough to display the battle system, visual and story.

By the way, what do you mean by "Seeing if I can get my time bar to move"? Working on a CBS Time bar variable? In that case I'd recommend making pictures with a coloured bar slowly representing 100%(Full) and have a variable keep "Adding 1 to itself until the variable is equal to or greater than). I did something like this in my game where the player walks on sand and the bar for how much heat they can take rises up.

im trying to make an action game....

If you're looking to create a fully-fledged action game like you're explaining as well as custom features, I'm not going to burst your bubble, but it is a VERY hard path ahead.

It takes several months / years even to just grab the resources and cover the base of your game. It sounds like you're mixing a massive amount of styles into one game, which is a daunting task for anyone really. FMVs are large files. (Even 500KB is large) and voice acting in a game such as the one you're explaining means sever hundreds or thousands of files. Your game could boost well over 4GB, which is the last thing people want when downloading an indie game.

If you have no experience whatsoever, then I don't know what to say other than try out RPG Maker. People have made Action style RPGs in RPG Maker, you just need to detain the features of RPG Maker. It has been done, and I'm pretty sure you could add levels in an action game.

Game Maker is also a very good suggestion, it's probably the best Game Maker out there. RPG Maker detains its superiority in terms of RPGs and other genres in the trend. But you could try out GM. I mean, I've tried it, but I stuck to RPG Maker because it just homed to me more that I like RPGs rather than Side-scrolling action based games.

By the way, the battle system you described CAN be done in RPG Maker, it's called an ABS (Active Battle System). Commonly seen in Post-apocalyptic RPGs, I recommend you check them out. You see an enemy on a map, and it charges toward you and attacks you. You then press X to Swing your weapon, or Z to Shoot your pistol from a long range.

But starting a project this big sounding from scratch with little experience won't dilute very far.

I'm not trying to discourage you in any way, but what you're shooting at sounds like something big. If you're going to start it, you need to execute it 100% and never give up.

Hi~New monster fighter here!

YES! FFXI had such awesome music. CoP Final Battle music is my favorite!

Ha, yeah. CoP's final boss music was smexy. I loved the entire OST of FFXI and all its expansions. Infact, I still play it every now again on my Xbox 360. I've kinda lost interest in it, but I'm slowly going back into interest from time to time. It's a really fun game, and I probably spent 60% of most of my time playing it.

Here is another one of my favourites

A subliminal "you're doing it wrong"?

Sigh, I wish I could move to VXa, but converting all my shit from 2003 > VXa and then eventing it all again is just such BS!

Limits on Hp, Mp, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, and agility can be set anywhere from 1 to 65,535.
What about with monsters? They have a maximum HP of 99,999 (a number that I've never liked and I don't feel that it is high enough for my final boss).

If you're unhappy with the Max HP on a monster, then I suggest you look into the David patch.

You can read about it here.

The download is no longer hosted on the website however. You can find it here, though.

Which you can download here.

Edit; It also changes various interfaces within RPG Maker and allows many bonuses.
