The Fall of Civilization.

You know, reading this lead me to think about the fall of an ancient civilizations in stories and how they almost always happen as some sort of negative consequence for something. Always some sort of ancient evil, or war, human greed, a god.. which in of themself, are are fine. Plague is interesting though because I'm not sure I've seen that in a story, but maybe it's been done?

But what got me thinking is why do these things always have to have happened as some form of negative consequence? I haven't played your demo so I'm not going to pretend to be really familiar with what might be there in the story already (waiting for the final version), so I'm not suggesting you do what I'm about to mention. It's just something that crossed my mind.

But why can't the fall of the ancient civilization be a desired outcome that those who bear responsibility for thought would be best for the world? There have been sorts of movements in this even in Western society, such as romanticism which arose in turn, against ideas from the enlightenment and the effects modernization had on the values from the old society. Obviously, before the advanced stage, the fallen civilization at one point had to be.. for lack of better words not so civilized, and perhaps there were some in opposition to the changes this brought to society, intentionally to restore previous values or something? But of course, over time people forget and this leads to technology resurfacing eventually and...

Anyways, yeah. Just more of a question really. Is it impossible to try to portray the fall of an ancient civilization in a positive, desired fashion? Must it always be negative as though it was a mistake?

Kinda serious topic; how well do you guys/gals get along with your dads?

It's okay.

Growing up, I never really had much connection to my father outside of financial means, even though he was present. Actually, he is part of the reason I played video games alot as a child - he'd buy us video games, have it set up in another room so that we were out of sight and could not be heard. Of course, I'm not trying to pass complete responsibility in that matter over to him. He also had anger problems when I was a child, which caused me for a long to time to deeply resent him, but that isn't an issue any longer with me no longer living with him.

But yeah, it's okay. I see and talk to him from time to time and we actually get along really good (better than we did when I was a child) since we have similar personalities to a degree.

SHOW ME YOUR SCREENSHOTS - Fall Edition

Custom graphics, starting to look much better. The bottom of the uhh.. waterfalls? still need some work so the shape looks better around the edges but it's good enough for the moment imo.

(ps I know everyone just loves sewers but given the subject material there isn't a whole lot I can do ;P )

Plus, trying to learn how people can make such awesome lighting and to be able to make it look like a dark sewer, but not something I think I am good at yet. Work in progress..

Too dark? :P

How long have you been working on your game?

My current project began on August 27th of this year. I had began another back in late 2008, around.. December I think, but I've since pushed that on the backburner. I intend to complete the current project first as it will be intended to be shorter, but I can't forsee just when it will be completed. I am working on the custom graphics which is unfortunately eating up the majority of my time working on it, and thus far I've only really gotten somewhere on one dungeon really. This is all still pretty new to me.

I do however, intend to reuse resources I create for the current project in the future when I can.

If you're feeling a little adventurous, (for a westerner- it's really not that scary) Eel is one of my absolute favourites. Some of the best I've had was seared a little bit, so outside = warm, while the inside remained cool. Good stuff.
If searing isn't your thing, you can get it straight raw depending on where you go. Best with a little rice.

unagi is delicious shit

Romancing SaGa (and the SaGa series!)

The Jewel Beast is a bitch too - at least, getting through the pillars in the lair. I gave up trying to take down the Beast itself once it settles in.. Weston? Argg fuck, I'm going to have to try in a few playthroughs. Don't know how people get strong enough characters at like 13 ER to take down four zombie dragons. They murder me before I even get a chance to attack. >:[

Summer Screenshot Spectacular!

Ehh. I think this is boring and I'm going to have to put alot more work into it to make it look better. None the less wanted to show the start of my custom graphics I am working on, which is everything but of course the water.

(The roof ended up being much higher than I wanted it to thanks to the tunnel entrance, but its something I am working on too)

Feld: Have you tried fighting Death?

But that's a very good point. Saruin can range from being really difficult and cheap to being extremely easy depending on how well you know how the game mechanics work. I can barely beat him with my first playthrough party because I developed the characters that badly.
