Internet persona vs "Real life" persona
I'm with boobledeeboo, I prefer talking to people offline more too. I'm not always the most talkatative person but when I speak, the way I say things is just as important as what I'm saying.
Online I actually tend to say less, because I can look at what I'm saying and think it over too much. Either I try to revise it because I think it looks stupid - already I'm doing this as I type this - and eventually post saying screw it, I think I conveyed what I wanted to say or I just withhold saying anything at all.
Usually offline the only person who cares when you something stupid is said is the person that said it, unless something really bad was said.

Anybody here want character designs, art, etcetera?
The style you draw in looks like 80s anime, and I love it! The sketch with the person sitting down is my favorite.. you should finish that sometime if you can, I think!
favorite anime movie?

Dubbing can be great and usually is when Disney does it for Ghibli films. Its only downside is that the film becomes less of the culture it was from and more of the culture it was dubbed into. Subtitles have less lost in translation, because you can still hear the original voices as they were meant to be heard.
So both are great, especially if done well.
I don't watch anime anymore but I remember arguing about subs vs dubs with people before - the subject always comes up, afterall - and I think is the best, perfect reasoning to watch subtitled anime. I never watched dubs and it has nothing to do with the quality; there are good dubs and there are bad dubs. I preferred to experience the show closest to how it was intended to be watched by the people who made it.
I do find it funny that everytime there is a good dub people rush out to say it is better. Is it really better or do people just think that because it's good and in a language they understand? I've seen people say you can't judge acting in a language you don't understand when others claim japanese voices are better, so why doesn't it work both ways? ;p
RTP sprites and hand-drawn faces/enemy battle sprites?
Worst game you personally do like.

So i played Celebrity Sports Showdown for the Wii with some firends last night and it was RETARDEDLY FUN.
Avril Lavigne kept kicking our ass, though.
What sports are in the game? If there involves anything you can hit Avril in the face it might be the greatest game ever... hmmmmmmmmm?
The "Lunar" Topic
I played Lunar SSC at my friend's house long ago back when we were in junior high. I liked it quite abit but wasnt able to play it very much. I have the sega cd versions of both lunar games on my computer, but haven't played either much yet. Maybe I got spoiled by the extras when I played SSC.
I wish I could get a copy of the PS versions without spending who knows how much. :(

The Final Fantasy I Topic
I rented FF when I was about five. I liked how I could choose my own characters and like Canuck, I thought the Black Mages were really cool. I don't think I got very far. We got a copy when I was in fourth grade and played it some more, but the furthest I got was after getting the boat from the pirates. Now I have Origins and I'm somewhere after when you get the airship. Never have completed the game.
Actually, I don't really like the first Final Fantasy. It never gives you an idea of where you are supposed to ho.

Oldschool RPGs aka the blinding lights of nostalgia
post=95105post=95093They way I read it, it was "RTP seems to be used in old-school type games".
I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. Actually, I am, I just don't see why it is a necessary reaction to what I said. People use the graphics they do in games either because they want to, feel it bests suits their game or it's the best they can do. I definitely wasn't trying to imply there was anything wrong with using RTP.
So my question was, "Is it okay to use RTP for a game that doesn't try to be old-school, or would people think that I was trying to do that (make it seem old-school), and stop playing?"
I meant that people who use RTP probably usually aren't using it thinking it will make their game old school. Heroes Realm uses RTP but from a graphica standpoint, I think it's the sprites themselves that lend it more an oldschool look. But it's not like aesthetic values are the only ones that contribute to a game feeling old school.
As for the question, I wouldn't really worry about it. Make the game you want to make with the graphics you want it to have. You can't control how people will receive your game and no matter what you do someone will likely be put off. Just do your best and if you make a good game, someone will likely notice and play it.
