If this in XP, I can't help you.
2k3, however:

You're on the right track with variables.
In my example, X is what needs to not be checked.

X and Y are set to the enemy's coordinates.
Hero X and Hero Y set to hero coordinates
If enemy sprite is facing up,
-Y-1
-Store terrain command referenced by X and Y. In the database, set tiles that should be see-through able to a different terrain number.
-If terrain ID is that which is not see-through-able, end loop; move on with life.
--If it is,
---If Hero X and Y match X and Y, Enemy can see hero
----If not, repeat from Y-1

To be modified for each facing. Does this help, or should I be more explicit?

...Actually, I liked the second Golden Sun better than a the first. There's just more... of everything. Which is good, because the first one was a bit short. Plus all the extra dungeons and such = <3

Also, Breath of Fire II was the first non pokemon/zelda RPG I played, and to this day is one of the few turn-based RPGs I can stand to play.

Annoying Ruts

I visited family in Montana last summer. So. Eh. Agoraphobic came to mind, but somehow I though that was fear of leaving the home (which, I hate my home and being here, so nyah), but I guess not.

Wikipedia tiem!
"Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place." "
....So who wins? Tie game?

Discuss: Elements

While I do have elements in my game what's important is weighing the various advantages that each element(al style) gives, stat-wise, and the field advantage- rather than a type advantage over an enemy.
There's
-Fire
-Water
-Wind
-Nature (plants, wood)
-Ice
-Lightning (thunder and light)
-Gravity (rock, sand)
-Materia (poison and dark)

And they are strong and weak against each other like so:

Water > Fire > Ice > Water
Materia > Nature > Thunder > Materia
Wind > Gravity > Wind

Weapons and monsters, don't have elements- the only things that do are objects, items, and the player.
For instance with objects, there are some rocks that are on fire. Said rocks on fire damage you upon touch, but do much much more damage if you're Ice style, or do no damage if you're Water.
Then, once you get the water element item, you can douse the rocks and make them like not on fire. Yaystuff.

Gimme Dungeon Gimmicks

Wind- Objects are blown about a bit. For instance, take a normal block sliding puzzle. Player pushes a block across the wind, but instead of moving forwards it moves diagonal-forwards with the wind. If that makes any sense.

Water- Personally, I like to play with water levels a lot in dungeons. And that's about all I do, unfortunately. Things like empty grooves and channels eventually fill with water to float something to cross, or produce steam somewhere to move something.

Does anybody mind if this becomes a general dungeon gimmick request topic? One thing I always have trouble with is finding puzzles for forests. You have basic log-rolling. There are a few stones to move, too. Plants to cut out of the way... But I really can't get past that. >.<

Annoying Ruts

Well, time would be an issue for me, but instead, I just stopped sleeping most of the time. Works better.

First and foremost, if I've been mapping, and I have to stop to make a graphic,
or if I've been making resources and map, it just kills the momentum. Similarly, if I finish a big dungeon/scene, momentum plummets, ussually for a day or two. Motivation stays, but, it's just nyeh.

Second biggest problem- big areas. Open areas. Areas that connect to lots of other areas, big dungeons (less so). What's the opposite of claustrophobic? Because I'm that, in RPGs (kind of so IRL, too.....) Negative space is my friend. And when I have to design a huge mansion, I just die on the inside.

Finally, if I run out of ideas for puzzles, I just freeze in place for a while, which phails.

What comes to mind from the username above you?

Ow-ow. I like it. Foxy, anyone? :p
