How long can you tolerate dialogue to be?
I prefer games with a good story, and I can stand a bunch of talking. Ideally, something is happening, or being actively explained, and they're not just talking in circles. As long as it's going somewhere, I'm fine with any amount of time.
...Unfortunately, that has made my main project into I guess what's going to be the Xenosaga among RM games, considering most of my scenes are at least 20 lines long, and several of them get around 10-20 minutes, depending on the player. =(

Release Something! Day III: Demo Day Edition [June 20th, 2008]
Assuming Beta can finish by then, I'll have the next chapter (3rd one) of Second Reality: Reflections ready to go.
Childhood
Is the perception accurate?
My mom's a music teacher year round out of her home. During the summer, because of the annual concerts I end up getting to know most of the kids decently each year.
It's not inaccurate. The list there is of course exaggerated, but most parents are paranoid about college, and dangers, be it pedophiles or drugs or colleges. They want their kids to turn out 'right' and so therefore do absolutely everything in their power to make them well rounded, etc.
Eight different activities? Probably not, but there is ussually at least one student each year who has to drop music lessons because they're doing soooo many other things. Spring is also ALWAYS a problem, because my mom has to schedule everyone around their other events (mostly soccer), and the schedule ends up becoming very disorienting and volatile for both her and the students.
In the summer, the same holds true. Students begin group rehearsals and several of them only make it to two out of eight. Needless to say, they are kicked out. Why? Because their parents (95% of the time their mom alone) over-booked them.
As for my childhood. It's mostly blank. I can't remember what I did for most of it. From 11 years onward, it was 2k3. Before that, I don't know. Probably pokemon or somethhing.

What was the first game you ever played?
Star Wars... for Gameboy Pocket. I didn't like it. Especially considering I didn't see Episodes 4-6 until long after I got rid of that game. And that's all it was on.
DISCUSS: NPCs
Most of my NPCs can't in anyway be considered interactive, but in the few times you talking to them, their personalities are sometime better developed than the main characters'. ;-;
Anyway, the only game I've ever played that had interactive NPCs was some old Star Wars Ep 1 PC Game. And on that, the conversations you had with them were pretty unexciting- it really felt like I just had to have all possible conversations, otherwise I might miss something. Yes, that's my OCD side. RPGs make me OCD..... No, anyway, I really gained nothing from it, and lost time, so since then, I've had somewhat of a dislike for dynamic NPCs... Well, ones that aren't necessary, anyway.
I view NPCs really just as distinct objects. That's why they are, were, and have pretty much always been so 2d and bland. 'The castle is up ahead' is a statement better reserved for a sign, rather than a mustached balding father sprite. Poor guy.
On the other hand, were a sign to say 'I heard the lord of the castle up ahead is a kind man...', I would be very concerned. NPCs can say different things at different times to suit the needs of the character/player, but empty interaction is really just a novelty that I find annoying.

Talking about production values in RPG Maker when comparing the RTP to plagiarized tiles from 15-year old games is really ridiculous.
While it is in part a matter of opinion on aesthetics, I think most would still agree that said plagiarized tiles look and fit better than those of the RTP, not to mention taking some degree of effort to find (small though it may be) as opposed to using what's simply given to you. Much of the community values plagiarized tiles from 15-year old games over the RTP, I believe, and again, part of this game's fault lies in it's failure to make an impression.
Using RM2k Font Patch on RM2k3
Actually, there is a font/message patch that I have, but you'll need to reinstall the RTP and maybe rename a couple folders... But it should fix the fonts and it'll restore the gray lines in message boxes that indicates where text cuts off.
I have to go now, but if you want, I can upload that for you?

On the contrary, part of selling a game is addressing all such categories- making it well rounded. Graphics are part of the game, after all. Now, I agree, game play is much much more important, however psychologically, first impressions will greatly bias a person's opinion. There's nothing that can be done about this, and considering graphics are more often than not, the first impression a person gets of a game, if a game has poor graphics it's assumed to be a poorly made game (or at least, with poor production values).
Statistically, better-looking people are treated better- are assumed to be nicer, smarter, etc. This, also, is because of first impressions. It's no different for games, see.
*cough* Well, I'm going to stop arguing with the administration, too much before I get black-bagged. :p
As for the game itself, I would play more, definitely, if it weren't for the DBS. I seriously tried here. I normally don't play any game, commercial or not, with a turn based system like so, particularly not DBS. I recognize how good of a dungeon design this has, so I tried, and got most of the way through the tower, but in the end, it was just far too nerve-grating. >.<...
