HAPPY'S PROFILE
I'm a very big fan of music of japanese role playing games for it has influenced me throughout my life since my early childhood. The day I saw Nobuo on the stage in front of me I decided I too will become a composer one day. It has been 9 years since that day.
You can't find my works anywhere right now, but that will change very soon this year as I will be contributing several original tracks for RMN Music Pack 2.

Chapter V: Modern Moods
You are a journeyman, a Disciple of Sound and you have been tasked to solve a series of mysterious disappearances of Sound in the Realms of Melodies by the Regal Musicians Network.
Your journey has brought you to another new Realm where the Sound has disappeared. You look around and find yourself seated in a flying aircraft.
You gaze out of the window by your side and see a huge metropolis sprawling beneath you. You spot some large and shabby industrial zones in the city, as well as tall and shiny scyscrapers and corporate-buildings, and some cozy neighborhoods and downtown shopping boulevards, too.
You also notice that even if the city view dominates the landscape, its borders can be seen a bit further ahead with fields, forests and a sea stretching far and broad behind it.
Suddenly an emergency strikes your aircraft and you are forced to evacuate. As you jump off the vehicle you're glad that you had the time to find a parachute, as well as your instrument; because there's no knowing of what sort of locale and situation you'll find yourself landing in!
Composer: As you have made your landing and taken a breather you pull out your instrument and begin summoning the Sounds for the situation, location, or for the characters present.
Developer: As you have made your landing you start wondering about how a modern situation, location, or characters could sound like. What could be included in these categories to begin with, anyway?
Challenge:
- Composers:
Compose a piece of video game music that fits a modern world setting. Scifi and fantasy elements may be present in the setting. Usage of and references to modern musical genres and styles is recommended.
- Developers:
Solve which modern musical styles should be used to refer to specific modern locations and situations, and think of scenarios that could work with more unconventional approaches as well.
Track restrictions:
- Impression: Modern. e.g. Urban, industrial. Possibly usage of musical styles from 1960s to present day.
- Instrumentation: Contemporary band instruments should make up most of the song: guitars, basses, drum kits, pianos, electrical organs, synths, horn sections, solo strings, solo winds, etc.
- Game World Setting: A modern setting with or without scifi and fantasy elements.
- Video Game Genre: No restrictions
- Game Instances: You may compose for any game instance or location in the setting.
Submission rules:
- You agree that your submitted tracks will be shared underĀ
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported License
- Render a track with as little audio quality loss as possible
- You may submit as many pieces as you wish, but rememeber that quality is what matters.
- You may update your submissions with further versions.
- You may contact event organizer and sign up for post processing of your track.
- You may collaborate and interact with all the rest of the community to any end you wish. You are encouraged to share tips, viewpoints, references and material for inspiration.
- The challenge will run for one month and end 15th of November 2015
Good luck everyone!

I am looking forward to it!
Any object to me making a forum post about all of the current entries? (just showcasing the talent and composers in a thread using MP3 player)
Go ahead. I was planning to make showcase reels of every chapter, but I have only had time to do the first one so far, so.
author=Shade_Hunter
So I'm able to add new submission to this chapter until then?
Yeah, I adjusted the event now, so that you can still submit until the announcement of the next chapter.
Summoner of Sounds
Hey guys, just letting you know that next theme will be announced 1st of October, because my schedule is currently heavily flooded.
Summoner of Sounds
Hey peeps! New theme will be announced in a couple of days once I have some free time to spare for the process! I will also try to find a chance to listen to everything here and give feedback, and also do some more recaps of the past chapters!
Summoner of Sounds
Here's some more feedback and commentary on the Chapter 3 submissions. Really nice work everyone! I so wish I would have had the time to participate the third chapter myself as well.

Also, answering to some questions:
You're definitely allowed to upload edited and improved versions of your past submissions! There's nothing wrong with this!
It depends on which culture's music you would be interested in to attempt and compose? The idea of this chapter is to draw influences from music of different cultures, either by mimicing the ornamentation and composition styles, or using similar instrumentation. I have to say I am not particularly familiar with any specific ethnic musical styles, either, but I'll most likely be taking a look at some eastern styles during this chapter, myself.
@TungerManU:
Somber! The mix sounds a bit absent, especially the high notes feel quiet in comparison to low ones. 1:10 onwards sounds especially nice. From here on it sounds very beautiful and sad, and somehow reminds me of FF9.
Hmm, yeah, a nice piece! It would definitely fit a dark fantasy setting of some sort. Hard to say much more about it! It gets its job done and doesn't in my opinion have any composition flaws. A polished mix would probably enhance if further, if anything!

@Fulminis-ictus:

I love the idea of this theme! The atmosphere feels very inspired and intriguing. It really grabs me. I think this is really, really top notch, mood-wise. I wish some of those higher tones had more presence over the low choir, but anyway, I love this composition-wise. Great job!

@BurningTyger:
I can hear improvement here! This song is much easier to follow than your earlier submissions. You're definitely heading to the right direction.
My first concern here with this theme is that sometimes the melody idea, repeated at different sections, sounds a bit over stretched.
It sounds to me like there are some notes in end of each segment that feel excessive. The base melody idea of a song that you use for variation in later sections, doesn't have to be very long in its core, but here in this song it sounds a bit too long, and becomes sort of derivative. I'd play around with the base melody idea, take a look at the notes at its end and see how it sounds if you decided to cut it a bit shorter before going onto varying it, with a different instrument.
Nice improvement, none the less!

@TheRexion:
Very nice and relaxant instrumentation and mood! It has slight feel of excitement and discovery to it. It really makes me think of some sort of overworld map view scenario in a game. It could suit a strategy or a simulation game very well, for example. The the main melody string layer sounds like it could have more foreground presence, be there with the flute, while the low strings sound like they could have a bit more transparency and establish the background ambiance and space. I really like the atmosphere, though. Very nice work!
@Ylmir:

When I was listening to this theme I was so, so sad I had no time to participate to this challenge myself. The atmosphere and soundscape you build here is something very similar to what I often have in my mind for this type of setting. For me, this feels like a very familiar take on the medieval atmosphere, although I do have to say that when the musicbox instrument comes in, it makes the song sound more "dark fairytale" like atmosphere than anything else. The instrumentation in the beginning of the song is spectacular, however. Is that some sort of fiddle tremolo there? I love it, and have to learn to use it myself! The melody instruments up until 1:40 or so, are all very nice too. Like them a lot! 2:02 Very nice strings!
Phew, a lot of nice details here and there. Have a star!

@larrylpope:
The melody's very nice! The harp chords remind me of some j-rpgs of my early childhood for some reason. It might just be the way the harp is played here is something I've heard there somewhere. The choir layers really enhance the song when they join in with the melody and 1:55 is particularly nice detail. The cello layer sounds a bit too loud at some parts though, and feels too dominant here and there, but generally, a very solid theme!
Also, answering to some questions:

I think someone asked this already but I can't find the answer anymore so I'll just ask again (sorry ;_;): Is it allowed to make minor edits to past entries and reupload them replacing the old ones? I'd like to mix them more properly since I didn't have much time to do so back then and I'd like to upload a wav version of them as well.

Shit, this is the kind of theme I'm completely clueless about. Can anybody please recommend some reference/example/inspirational music?

Chapter IV: World of Traditions
You are a journeyman, a Disciple of Sound and you have been tasked to solve a series of mysterious disappearances of Sound in the Realms of Melodies by the Regal Musicians Network.
Your journey has brought you to another new Realm where the Sound has disappeared. You look around and find yourself surrounded by very diversely dressed individuals.
Something about the looks of each person tells you that they come from entirely separate parts of this Realm and that each of them represent a different, a very distinct ancient culture, and a tradition.
In fact, these are the representatives of the greatest royal courts of this Realm, and each one of them wishes you to accompany them and return the Sound to their court and their land.
The question is: which land will you visit?
Composer: You choose your destination and grab your instrument.
Developer: You set out to search for situations that have the most immediate need for Sound. You see your ally beginning summon the Sounds, but wait, are those the Sounds of this Realm? That will need to be determined!
Challenge:
- Composers:
Compose a piece of video game music that has world music influences.
You may compose for any game instance or location in the setting.
- Developers:
Solve which settings and situations could greatly benefit from world music influence and suggest these to the composers. Be sure to let your composer allies know if they are any good at their job, or if they could use help at something. You may have some ideas for them as well.
Track restrictions:
- Impression: No definitive restrictions. The song should be influenced by some traditional music ornamentation styles, or instrumentation.
- Instrumentation: Free instrumentation, but the track should contain at least some ethnic instruments.
- Game World Setting: No restrictions
- Video Game Genre: No restrictions
- Game Instances: You may compose for any game instance or location in the setting.

Hey! The fourth chapter will be announced either later today, or early tomorrow! Sorry for the delay! The deadline for the fourth chapter will be pushed ahead accordingly!
Summoner of Sounds
Hey guys! Sorry for the brief silence there! I have been really busy and I'm also sad I haven't had time to participate. Give me a few days and we'll have the new chapter up!
Also, those recaps need to be done as well, but they're on their way! I'm really liking the entries of this chapter from what I have had time to listen to them.
I have been thinking how to raise the number of submissions in the coming chapters? Though a lot of the people might just be in similar situation as myself, not being able to find enough time to participate.
