I use this method by having an NPC tell you of the dangers to come if you're underleveled for the area. If you're right level or over then he says something different, maybe even a helpful hint to combat the new monsters.

Also, it would be helpful if you told us what kind of game this is so maybe we can help with appropriate titles for these "name callings"

edit: But you can't go wrong with "Fledgling" it's offensive in the sense that you're young in the arts of combat without being overly straightforward like "kid" or "child"
