Health bars in RPGs: an actual game design discussion
There are positives and negatives to both options, most of which have already been mentioned. Everything that's explicitly given to the player takes away a degree of discovery, so just decide where and when you think that's a good trade. My kneejerk reaction is to prefer killing x number of y shows y's HP bar, because it adds a micro-system and some micro-content to the game. One idea is to take a page from a lot of action games. Don't show the HP bars of common enemies, but display them for bosses. It adds a small element of drama to the fight, identifying this encounter as being Very Important... Bonus points if the HP bar fills up with little beeps at the start like Mega Man.

Well, in exactly 24 minutes I'm going to try and take out Ultimate Godo. I read his abilities and I think my party will be pretty decent. Below is my party, waiting for stamina.

I have considered swapping Cloud with Drunk Cecil so I can use his attack power limit break. Swapping out Barret is also an option since Godo is resistant to breaks anyway. I have four 5-star FF7 swords counting Gold Sword so I can field lots of sword users. I think the counter-cura will be annoying so I decided to bring Reflect. Another alternative is to swap Drunk Cecil in for Y'shtola and use an RW to fill that gap, and just put Curaja on Pretty Cecil. I might just back out and change my party, because now that I have that Lifesiphon ability I can probably get close to 100% uptime on Drunk Cecil's 35% attack boost. Then I could drop Steal Power for another damage ability since 4/4 Shadowsteel won't last an entire fight. We'll see.
Well, I did swap Barret for Drunk Cecil, who had about 5 Attack higher than Cloud even though he's effectively 3 levels lower and has a weaker weapon, and then gave Yuffie Dismissal instead of Steal Power. Dismissal actually worked against Godo twice, which I didn't expect, but unfortunately both of them were early in the fight when they were least important (but still appreciated nonetheless). I had to reload twice because sap failed eight times, but fortunately worked on the first try in my third run: ticks for about 4k so it's a lot of damage. Damage was high for both parties due to Drunk Cecil being the man. Godo spams Bioga like non-stop so a second healer might be a good idea, as it was hitting for 800 through Stoneskin, Magic Break, and Shellga (during a period where Stoneskin was down, it was hitting for 2k on some members). Fortunately Cloud can more or less heal himself with Drain Strike, but an important thing that pulled me through was Reflect, surprisingly. I used Reflect because I didn't want him to cut my damage by 20% or more each time I hit him, but it ended up being pretty clutch and saved Yuffie's and Y'shtola's lives when a Cura bounced their way during a Stoneskin-gap, and also helped top off the others while Y'shtola could focus on the weakest dudes. Didn't change much but this was my party for mastery:

In other news, I just got a 5-star Priest's Miter (FF6) in my daily draw this morning. I assume this means I'll get struck by lightning today.

Go with Shadowsteel on Yuffie against Godo if you've honed it. Same damage as poison but it ticks way more often. My Valefor is still R2 because I honed Quetzalcoatl first. All of my 3-star summons are R5 though, which is handy against weaknesses or with a +element weapon/armor.
Ah... Neat. Got a new item today in the daily draw. 2-star Slasher Axe (FF12). I wonder how many 2-star items there are left to collect. They're so rare.

Yeah, that's why I went with a Retaliate strategy. I don't have enough mage weapons to go with Reflect, but I have physical options to support Retaliate. Like I said in my earlier post, I made the error of not having Stoneskin active when Bart shrugged off his pauldrons, so he opened with Tri-Ruin and blasted Fang in one sequence. You can do without Stoneskin/Sentinel's Guard, but it means you have to use every break and also Mog's Heroic Harmony, and there just aren't as many HHs out there as Stoneskins. You should still try to adjust your strategy and master him. Your gear is better than mine and it only took me a second attempt to master, after my Fang sacrifice.
Anyway, I got bored of daily dungeons and did Yuffie's event afterall. I did the event quests at the same time as mastering/clearing the stage. I still have the 99 battle to wrap up, though, but that should be easy since Yuffie doesn't have to solo that one. I did the power boss twice because the first time I brought Advance, thinking it'd just help me clear the fight faster (and also because I had no optimal RW to choose and didn't want to reshuffle), but then one of his attacks finally connected through Blind and he one-shot poor Yuffie for like 3.6k damage. I'm glad she can uses fists, because I otherwise I'd have no great FF7 weapon for her. I don't see myself using Yuffie much, but she does seem neat.
I've got to say, I really hate not having story dungeons to do or filler events like Rift of Recollection or Festival of Gold. On the plus side, with 153 stamina or however much it is, I can still get a lot done just by logging in once a day. What I'm saying is you should catch up on your story dungeons already--lots of mythril to be had and several of the dungeons are pretty challenging.
Well, I did the fifth pagoda floor and it's pretty annoying. I learned the fun way that Sap and Poison override each other, so don't bring both. My party was asleep almost the entire fight so the bulk of my damage was from sap. Consider bringing Runic RW or Carbuncle or similar to just avoid the sleep altogether.

From where I'm sitting the part 1/part 2 events are completely indistinguishable from the normal/elite events. All the event battles before the boss rush are pointless and don't really need to exist any more. And at this point the boss rush and the ++ boss are pretty trivial too in most events. I wish they'd make it so we can just start at the boss rush, and get rid of the mythril rewards for everything below it so there's no need to spend two days doing them all. It's nothing but grind for the sake of grind, taking up the player's time for no reason except to produce a skinner box effect.
They need to reward mythril for newer players. So instead of getting rid of it, they should change the way it works. Complete any stage and get mythril for it, but make the difficulty of that stage variable. Once completed the mythril can't be claimed for any other difficulty tier of that same dungeon. All of the other rewards escalate based in tier, but each tier includes all of the rewards of its subordinates. Instead of normal vs elite, they would be shredded out similarly to daily dungeons.

Spent my 100 gems on the Lightning banner because I was tired of seeing it. Got some FF12 mace I've already fully upgraded and never use.
Craze's super FF13 pull reminds me how much I hate that new screen and how I'll probably never screenshot an 11-pull ever again. I hate that it's a scrolling list and that the button covers up a portion of your results. The old screen captured everything in a convenient rectangle.
I'm putting off the Yuffie event for a bit to get some orbs, but I should be ready for the bonus battles when they unlock.

Instead of Renewing Cure on Pretty Cecil, give him Curaja. Also, if you're using a physical party then Boon kind of neutralizes itself since you provoke counter attacks, so either go magic or drop Hastega effects in favor of maybe Amarant's Aura. Also, your synergy is dope. I don't think you're lucky so much as you've pulled on FF13 quite a bit, similar to how I've pulled on FF6 a lot. Conversely, I've never done a single FF13 pull and got all of my items on that first lucky draw festival. My FF7 synergy, on the other hand, is pure luck since most of the FF7 items I have came on non-FF7 banners.
So I went ahead and did Ultimate Bart, since my character levels seemed fine. This is the party I mastered it with:

Kind of a strange party. I used Retaliate so that Sazh and Y'shtola could deal more damage during their free turns, but mostly so that I could avoid getting Boon, Protectga, and Stoneskin dispelled by Bart's counterattacks. Cloud may be a better choice here--I never compared to see if the pumpkin ball synergy makes up for Tyro's stat deficiency compared to a Shadowblade with 142 base Attack... but in hindsight I am guessing it does not. Could've also given him my 5+(+4) Boon gun (like 102 Attack, I think) and went pure Advantaliate since he was retaliating for like 5.5k with the pumpkin ball, so the 10k Thundara Strikes aren't that important compared to the 11k+ I could've done. And Ice Jump was only doing like 7.5k anyway. Plenty of tweaks I can make if I want to try again.
Not really too much detail to my strategy. Keep Retaliate and Advance active... Hit pauldrons with elemental weaknesses and switch to full Retaliate strategy after that. I saved Stoneskin for when Bart first empowered his pauldrons, but then kept it active from then on. I had to quit and reload once since I didn't have Stoneskin active when Bart first shrugged off his pauldrons. His first move was to tri-Ruin Fang, and just Shellga wasn't enough to survive that so my hopes of mastery were scuttled.
I considered Steal Power on Tyro to help mitigate Bart's smile attack, but decided it was too tricky to balance that with Advance. Smile hits pretty hard but Protectga/Stoneskin was enough to deal with it, though at one point two of my party members were at critical HP so maybe Curaja instead of Blizzara Strike would've been safer... Tyro's Advance-powered normal attacks were hitting for like 5k+ anyway.

I got lucky and Shadowsteel worked on Geryon on the first turn.
Anyway, I've already done the bonus battles up to Ultimate Bart, which I'm 37 stamina short of. I suspect I'll make my attempt on Monday though, to give my party a bit of an XP boost. Even a boss rush version of Brynhildr is a bitch... She dies quickly but she still took Vanille with her. She got off two AoE physical attacks before I could act which is always a bummer, and I just couldn't catch up on healing before somebody got put away. Warmech is as impossible to get damage medals against as ever, using Wave Cannon about 80% of the time. Cid was pretty easy and his dispel timing was pretty lucky, since I was mid-Boon cast when he used it.
Craze, what is Rubi getting you with? What is happening at 10% exactly? If he's finishing you with Blaze then bring a Hymn of the Fayth or Princess's Favor RW, or whatever Lenna's Cura+Regen one was called. If you're running out of abilities than use higher hones, bring a +Damage RW of some flavor, use higher damaging abilities, etc.

I think I'm at like 30 Mythril or so, saving for FF9. I am not sure which banner to pull on, though. Beatrix's sword and Quina's spear look great, but as always I could use more mage gear and the second banner is loaded up. I also have 100 Gems leftover from that pack I got for my FF4 pull, so I'll have to use that at some point.
I've cleared everything that's available now, so I'm just waiting on the bonus battles.
Due to all of that free FF13 gear, my synergy isn't too shabby. I went ahead and combined my Boon Guns for Lightning and gave Sazh the New Years one. Bartz is using the pumpkin ball because it doesn't make sense to give it to Hope, who lacks physical abilities. I've got a 4++ fist for Snow and a 4++ staff for Vanille, in addition to Snow's ice punch armor. This should be fine.
I think Fang will be required for some bonus battles so she'll be lacking in the weapon department, but my 5+(+15) Shadowblade should be plenty serviceable, sporting about 140 Attack.

Without knowing more, I am thinking a good group would be Tellah, Tyro, Celes, Rydia, and Terra. At this point you should have two 3++ Ice Rods if you've kept them all, which allows you to field two mages with suped up ice magic. I think no matter what you want a dedicated healer.
Tellah - Curaja / Shellga
Tyro - Steal Power / Water Veil
Celes - Blizzaja / Curaga
Rydia - Shiva / Waterja
Terra - Blizzaga / Magic Breakdown
Ah... I didn't know you had Lustrous Shield. What's the duration on it anyway? And does it draw non-black magic spells? Lure Magic won't grab Inferno, which you'll be seeing a lot of. You could also use Quistis instead of Terra to cover your Breakdown.
