Hefty coding question: guards detecting thief
It's well worth getting good at trigonometry though, since there's tons of stuff you can use it for. Math is a good tool to get games do what you want. And you're going to have to look into the terrains idea either way, since the example uses it as well.
The tutorial should help you figure out how it works, but if anything is still unclear, feel free to ask. That way I might be able to improve the tutorial to be even more understandable

Hefty coding question: guards detecting thief
You could take a look at this:
tutorial including how to make guards not be able to look through walls
The tutorial is still pending, but I think you should still be able to access it.
It includes a tiny rm2k3 project which provides some examples for doing different stuff, with a guard of limited sight which can't look through walls being one of them

Weapons (and cheats)
nah, you actually push it after you've completed the sequence. Yeah, I know I'm not following normal convention by using '+' this way. Might change it

I watched the video earlier. pretty cool stuff. Would be neat if you released some kind of starter pack or something(which would interest me greatly). It would be neat to expand on it. It looks like bosses would be pretty limited though. The coolest thing would be having a boss with snake arms like from the old snes games.
Reminds me of Carius, he made a game somewhat like that called Pirates I think. Bridge da gap.
It should be possible to make a starter pack out of what I have without too great difficulty, which shouldn't be too hard to use either, at least in terms of stage creation and regular enemies. I'll see what I can do, but it probably won't be happening right away, since I have lot of finals coming up quite soon.
Bosses however would be harder to generalize as they vary in size, and possibly including more complex behaviour.
Should be possible to do a lot more with them though, I just avoided doing too much out of them due to the time constraints of the event. Snake arms would probably be possible, but also a true hassle to implement.

Wow, I can't even beat the first level with 10 tries. )-X
How can I switch between the straight shot and the diagonal one (between blue and green)?
Edit: I'm at 50 tries now..... -,-
Edit: Gawd, I reached the boss now with 1 life left and that guy is even more insane than the whole level. This game can't be meant seriously. Not even Chuck Norris could beat it...
Wow, that's a lot of tries for the first stage. There isn't a way to "toggle" between weapons. Power ups simply make you change the weapon, and you'll have to get a new power up to get the old weapon. Instead you could power up a weapon by collecting the same weapon again... there's also cheats which can be used at the weapons and (cheats) game page tab.
Btw. Kentona beat the first boss on second playthrough :x

Ok somebody get to level 3 ? :D
Doesn't sound like too many have, maybe the cheats in the "weapons and cheats" page will help on that end a little

I will say, though, an option for skipping the intro would be great.
Since the last update (which was a while ago) it has an option for skipping the intro by using the save file provided with the game though

Ah, I suppose the gameplay video could have been have been more clear on that, as I suppose the tiny little text "weapons can be upgraded by collecting another of the same kind" is very quick to overlook.
So yeah, every weapons stacks up to a total of 3 times, which usually make stuff considerably easier. Have the green laser on stacked 3 times and you hit pretty much everything on screen regardless, or have the red blaster stacked 3 times, and the first boss will die in less than 15 seconds (if you don't miss too much). It's even possible to kill the final boss in around 20 seconds with it... but that requires actually living long enough with that weapon to reach the final boss, and with a bit of careful aiming during it's second phase (where you have to hit it in the little gap).
Thanks for the update. Some of the crossed out stuff gave me a good laugh as well.
