Opera web browser moving over to Webkit

http://www.opera.com/press/releases/2013/02/13/

To provide a leading browser on Android and iOS, this year Opera will make a gradual transition to the WebKit engine, as well as Chromium, for most of its upcoming versions of browsers for smartphones and computers.

"The WebKit engine is already very good, and we aim to take part in making it even better. It supports the standards we care about, and it has the performance we need," says CTO of Opera Software, Håkon Wium Lie. "It makes more sense to have our experts working with the open source communities to further improve WebKit and Chromium, rather than developing our own rendering engine further. Opera will contribute to the WebKit and Chromium projects, and we have already submitted our first set of patches: to improve multi-column layout."

Opera Software, an independent voice in the browser market since the 1990s, will dramatically change its strategy this year by adopting the WebKit browser engine used by Safari and Chrome.

The Norwegian company announced the move today and said it will show off the first fruits of the work with a WebKit-based version of its Android browser at the Mobile World Congress show in less than two weeks. But the company will move to WebKit for its desktop browser, too.

A browser engine processes the Web page instructions written in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS then renders the results on screens. The engine is increasingly important as the developer world expands from static Web pages to dynamic Web apps.

While this will be of minor news to most people, this is sad news for us developers and enthusiasts since this means the death of Presto (Opera's in-house web browser engine) and consolidation of major web browser engines into now just Gecko (Mozilla), Trident (Microsoft), WebKit (Google/Apple), and other smaller engines like KHTML (KDE).

Opera as we used to know it will slowly devolve into just another fork of Chromium, which is the base browser from which Google Chrome is derived.

RIP Opera, you will be missed.

Camstudio Recording Issues

The industry standard for video encoding right now is h.264/AVC. x264 is the most popular h.264/AVC encoder library currently available to my knowledge.

EDIT: Typo fix.

Disallowing the use of other programs

Nothing short of a completely walled off, per-process-sandboxed, closed-platform operating system will prevent the use of cheat-hacking through memory manipulation and other methods, and I'm uncertain if even that will prove impregnable.

Or in other words, just don't worry about it.

How to make more than 4 character in party

You can construct an entirely custom menu and battle system to have more than 4 people in a party in RM2K3, but generally speaking this is one thing where you're much better off going with RMXP/VX/VXA.

7 has something with a similar mane as well, doesn't it?
Windows Defender in Windows Vista and 7 is an anti-malware software similar to Malwarebytes; it looks for such things as tracking cookies, spyware, and other forms of malware that don't fall under the category of viruses. Microsoft Security Essentials succeeds Windows Defender and has its anti-malware capabilities in addition to new AV capabilities.

In Windows 8, Microsoft Security Essentials is rebranded as Windows Defender and installed as an integral part of the OS. Common speculation as to why it's still called Windows Defender and not MSE is to possibly avoid issues that MS had when it shipped IE and WMP together with Windows and was subsequently told to not include them in Europe and other markets (the so-called Windows "N" and "KN" versions). The name "Windows Defender" is speculated to skirt the issue since no AV software vendors called MS out when Windows Defender first debuted.

Combat systems: Do's and Dont's & Opinions

Skill cooldowns work out well in real-time systems, but they translate rather badly to turn-based systems because the concept of time is actually split into whole units of turns instead of seconds, which makes cooldowns much longer across the board than their real-time counterparts. Longer downtimes mean more stale combat and combat systems should never be stale.

Females and Gaming - #1reasonwhy

I'd just like to point out that female characters with "big boobs or a cute face" aren't always necessarily the creations of male creators, women can and do create such female characters as well and I've seen many cases where the audience actually didn't realize that the content they were consuming was in fact created by a woman.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that putting forth such an arrogant stereotype as you did in this discussion is a step in the wrong direction. You may not realize it, but you just stereotyped men in just the same way that you hate how women are sometimes stereotyped. While I certainly understand what you actually meant and respect your opinion, you have effectively contradicted yourself with your post and you're not conveying your thoughts and opinions in a way that others will constructively read and discuss about. We are all open and willing to discuss this sensitive topic at hand maturely and seriously, as I'm sure the preceding 7 pages of posts will imply, so let's not start fighting stereotypes with more stereotypes, that's just bad for the atmosphere. (。= ω =。)

As for the comments you found about "poke her or touch her boobs", those are just run-of-the-mill tasteless comments swarming the internet. There are places where people talk constructively and in-depth about whatever the subject-at-hand may be (RMN right here is a great example!), you just happened to bark up the wrong tree and I sincerely hope you have better luck here and at other communities you frequent.

So... should I get Norton or Microsoft Security Essentials ? :D

I wouldn't touch Norton with a 10-foot pole, so my advice is go with Microsoft Security Essentials.

"Project creation could not be completed." error in RPG Maker 2003

Make sure your project (and better yet RM2K3 as well) isn't located inside "C:\Program Files (x86)" if you're running either Windows Vista or 7.
