da fuq did i just read

No, seriously, TL;DR and my PgDn button is yelling all sorts of curses right now.

Unreal Engine and CryEngine are now cheaper than RPG Maker

Epic announcements of unreal proportions that'll likely result in cries of joy.

[Poll] Do you think RM2K/3 will ever die off completely?

author=amerk
Even then, I'm sure there will be a comfortable niche for the old 2K and 3 programs, considering that because the only way to get it is through piracy, and there doesn't appear to be any effort to combat that or stop it, there will be some people who will grab those programs instead of paying for a new one.
RM2K can be legally obtained, I can even upload a photo of the boxed Japanese copy of RM2K Value if anyone wants to see it.

RM2K3 on the other hand, that can only be obtained via pirating (short of obtaining second-hand copies) because it was pulled from store shelves long ago.

I've got Windows 8 and can run this stuff just fine. And I'm still planning on making something eventually.
Can confirm that RPG_RT and the editors are working flawlessly in Windows 7 and in Windows 8 Release Preview (I refuse to purchase a retail copy of Windows 8/8.1).

RPG Maker: XP vs VX vs VX Ace

RM2K Value! is also still being actively sold and supported by Enterbrain, if you can manage to get a copy from Japan (or find a copy in Davy Jone's Locker...), so don't discount RM2K just yet either.

That aside, VX Ace is a perfectly capable engine and editor if you can look past its saddening map editor. Especially with the Steam sale going on, it's worth the money. If you're looking to grab some DLCs as well I strongly suggest you pickup the two DS and DS+ DLCs, they are worth the money. Others I would recommend are the futuristic and modern day tileset DLCs, but that's up to you.

Contact Information section of user profiles need updating

Besides adding Skype and Steam, I would suggest a box to enter the name we frequent RMN's IRC channel by, not all of us use the same name on IRC as we use on the site/forums after all.

A box to put in a link to our personal website/blog/whatever might be of possible value as well.

Contact Information section of user profiles need updating

The contact information section for user profiles, shown in the screenshot above, needs updating. Specifically, please:

* Remove MSN, MSN Messenger service was discontinued back around April of last year (except in China).
* Add Skype, which is billed as the official replacement for MSN Messenger besides being a complete chat/voice chat service itself. Not sure why Skype isn't here already.
