edit: You can do something similar to this for just about anything you'd want to change around in your scripts. Back up your game before mucking with code, but muck with your code just to see what happens.

She made the initial contact with Balthier, she had the reason to be in the Palace, she's the one who really kick-started the whole thing. People seem to ignore that point.


Balthier was introduced during Vayne's fete, while Vaan is rummaging around in the vault grabbing the too-be-revealed Dawn Shard, actually. Vaan meets him first. He also has significant development over the game's run--did you forget the scene in Ozmone Plain with the Garif (??) where he waxes philosophical with Ashe about how dreams aren't what they're cracked up to be? And then she starts realizing how maybe she doesn't need WMDs to restore Dalmasca after all? Vaan's significant; just in the understated writing typical of an Ivalice-set game.

Hell, if one of them did an interview and said that Vaan was originally meant to be an NPC who you'd touch base with now and again, and Penelo the original avatar for the player, I'd believe it whole-heartedly.


Actually, the original main character was Basch. They were worried no one would by the game if the main character was too gruff and "Western" masculine.

I won't mind fighting Yiazmat and Hell Wyrm in HD. I just wish they would cut out Vaan and Penelo completely. ><

Then the Dawn Shard never gets out of the Rabanastre Galtean Palace, Ashe is executed after getting captured trying to crash Vayne's party, and the game never happens.

I don't get how people can claim that Vaan and Penelo don't do anything. I guess people just all collectively skipped all of the cutscenes?

Trying to incorperate more things for players to purge/dispel during fights, like a DoT that cuts healing or a buff that makes the boss' casted abilities instant.

That said, I keep finding myself returning to "dispel this shield" or "purge this DoT," which isn't exciting if you have to do it every fight.

I'm open to suggestions for any other interesting states that are fun to remove.
