Lost Legacy: An Animania Story

Hey soham051994...we're helping you out on my forum!

New Article Submitted!

First off, my apologies to all of those who have been patiently waiting for my next article in the 'Game Design Process 101' series. Real life (aka work) has been drilling me into the ground for weeks.

However, after many weeks of slowly getting in one paragraph at a time, my next article, on Level Design, is submitted, and just waiting for approval. So, just to let you all know that it has been submitted and should be showing up within the next day or two.

Peace!

O_o (quietly watches download count double from previous day)

Thank you. I'm very touched.

Indie vs. Amateur - an article everyone should read

Aren't these two entities one in the same? This all reeks of some kind of artificial label an egotist would use to elevate themselves above others.

My one word reply to this article : Tripe.

Agreed.

Don't let this article influence your self-image, guys. The best 'indie' developers started just like us, or maybe without the benefit of an online community.

How to be an indie game / serious software developer in two easy steps!

1) Create a design document
2) Follow the damn design document

At the risk of contradicting myself, I agree here too. Organizing yourself, ala Design Document, is the mark of someone who wants to take himself seriously.

If you don't take yourself and your craft (see game design) seriously, no one else will.

Screw that, Mayor.

I think, not only should we rate and compare eachother's games, but we should rank people from best to worst. Like, their value as a human being. That way, we REALLY know where we stand in the internet e-peen totem poll.

Despite the fact that you're disagreeing with me, I can't help but laugh my ass off at it.

But seriously, I like competitions as much as the next person, but when the mere use of a name like 'Educated Choice Awards' causes such intense debate arguement, then obviously something has gone wrong. And if something has gone wrong, then something needs to change. Whether it's the contests and how they are structured or the perceptions of the community members and leaders that needs to change is something I'm not going to spend the effort trying to figure out at 12:30am on Easter Sunday morning.

Or things can just be as they've also been, and the people with the dissenting opinions can just shut up and deal. Mob rule.

What's your plans?

Wife and I will attend service, trade Easter presents (I'm hiding her stuff around the house this year ala Egg Hunt), and then being lazier than a pair of fat Polar Bears after drinking too much Coca Cola.

So I guess we're going with Darken's design then, eh? Well, I wanna say that out of the two, I like the black one more.

PICK ONE, YOU FUCKERS. Either hate the Misaos because they are a stupid popularity contest or hate the ECAs because they are picked subjectively by a small panel of community "luminaries" (I have BOLDED THE IRONIC DOUBLE QUOTES FOR YOUR EASE IN VIEWING).

Here is a novel idea: Get rid of both the Misaos and the ECAs. Do away with anything other than the 'Release Something' Events. Whether it be maturity, philosophical point of view, or personal choice, neither is creating a spirit of 'Friendly Competition', or creating a 'drive to get people to make more games'. It's causing resentment, drama, cliques, and dividing lines.

Sad.

I would recommend doing away with both, and establishing a more contest driven event, like the Release Something...only with ranks, awards, and pie.

Not wild about my colors, but I'm doing this before going to bed...

Old school Swords & Serpents marries Crystalis and has a bastard child on a bed of Golden Axe...

EDIT: Shrunk the size of the year.

Interesting read MayorAnime. (I'd love for my games to be popular outside of my immediate bubble :-[).

Your story is not unlike mine, except I dabbled in RTS-modding (mostly C&C: Red Alert) and not FPS-modding. And I started with QBASIC, not VERGE.

Well if I was to go into my WHOLE story, which starts about age 8, I'd be slapping down the ol' Commodore 64 stuff.

Maybe I'll just link my wiki-article when it's done. :D

Thanks though, Kentona! ;)
