Dungeon Design ~Where is Brickroad when you need him?~
author=WIP link=topic=3586.msg72200#msg72200 date=1240618813
Brickroad doesn't participate in the community anymore because his game was less popular than games that are garbage. It pretty much ruined his motivation to continue.
Ouch. Were his games ridiculed? Or just not played/talked about by anyone? Cause I can attest, it is hard to motivate yourself to be a part of a community when it seems that the majority of people either don't what you there, or want to take every opportunity to throw negativity your way.
Redd's Event Workshop
I actually would love to get my hands on a good CBS for XP (or VX) that functions similarly to the type used in Eternal Sonata, but I'm not even sure if that could work in either XP or VX.
See for yourself on YouTube.

So yeah, if that is something even remotely interesting for you to try in 2.5D, as opposed to 3D, let me know and I'll post or PM you all the specs.
And if not, but you happen to know of where a guy can get a good side-view CBS like in any Final Fantasy game, point me in the right direction. I have met script-collecting with much fail.
Thanks in advance!

Dungeon Design ~Where is Brickroad when you need him?~

Uh, what about Brickroad's dungeon design article? http://www.rpgmaker.net/articles/3/ It's more specific than MA's. Also play games like Lufia 2 and take notes.
I just read the article, and yeah it's more specific to dungeons than to levels in general. Much better for the specific assistance Neok needs here.

Gah! I hate to toot my own horn, but I believe my most recent article, on Level Design, will (at least) help you out:
http://www.rpgmaker.net/articles/144/
(If we're not allowed to promote our own articles, Admins, lemme know.)
It's lengthy, but it goes over a lot of the basics. And of course, Kentona is A-1 on the mark with playing out other games with puzzles and learn from them.
Good luck. PM or reply here if you need any personal support. I'll do the best that I can!

What Are You Working On?
Lost Legacy: An Animania Story (Second Installment)
The numerous e-mails and PMs from fans all over finally convinced both myself and my wife to continue the next installment of this game. I'll make a full post once I have some screens or something to show, instead of just empty-calorie words. But yeah, that's taking my main attention.
Unnamed Episodic Game
Been tinkering with the idea of an episodic game ever since January. A series of screwed up dreams that I had over a two day period while sick with the Flu have really inspired me. However, I don't want to start working on a full-length epic game while working on a full-length epic game (see above). So the current idea is to release this game as a series of episodes. :-\
Game Design Process 101 Article VI
This is one of the articles I've really been looking forward to writing. It deals with agents, avatars, triggers, events, etc. Probably will be about as technical as the Level Design article.
A-kon 2009 LARP
Not an RPGMaker Game, but I'm busy gearing up for the LARP event at A-kon in a month.
So all that, plus working on the new website at work, and helping rebuild a server...this Mayor is one Busy Little Bee.

Best RM Games you've Ever Played
Oddly, I find myself with a very small list of RM games that I have played. And not all of them were very good.
I've only played three games from this site so far (to completion), and the only one I felt deserved any sort of kudos was Backstage.
Man, I need to get cracking on play other people's games. >_>

RPG Maker versions these days - Question from a Beginner
author=Arinoch link=topic=3423.msg68819#msg68819 date=1238533505
I suppose since I have no experience at all, I might as well start fresh with the newest version. I have programming experience (no game programming, however), so there's that...Really the only reason I was resisting trying the new ones was I'm going for an FFIV-style combat system. That is: Simple. My time is limited and I mostly just want a good story (easier said than done of course), but maybe when I learn to use the tools more could be done. I generally do like the FF-style of combat, so hopefully that system can be used in VX through scripting? If not, eh.
That said, I'm well aware the odds of me actually finishing a game. I dug up the sprites I'd done before life got in the way, and I'd only fully animated one character. The other seven main ones ended up only having their front views done. -_-
Advice from a Pro:
Start with something easy for you personally to use, regardless of the program's popularity or power. Focus on Game Design and your Story writing, not on nifty features and great graphics. Resources do not make for good design. Also, don't worry about the opinion of anyone here (including me) and don't worry about the ever-going impotent debate of 2003 vs XP vx VX vs Ika vs PineappleNinjaEngine (j/k).
If you want to make a game, make a game. The rest will come with practice.
