I think it'd be awkward for reviews to be completely objective in that regard, though. In this case, for example, I'm sure Brickroad himself only enjoyed it to a 2 star rating's level given his preferences and all things considered - if I were him, putting it at another star despite not enjoying it at all would probably feel "fake".

I think the system is probably okay the way it is, as long as people read reviews while resonating with the reviewer's preferences and the actual content, and more than one review is eventually present. The only potential problem is that with a first review from an established person at the rock bottom, it may be intimidating for others to submit reviews or provide a higher rating. Not that's anyone's fault, though.

But aye, the fact that this was featured with an officially attached review of 2 stars is strange indeed.

Lyra's Melody - The Song She Whispered to Me

Thanks ya guys. c: There are some mapping passability glitches in the demo, but hopefully they don't hinder much.

Oh, here's the battle theme - if anyone could link me the song from Golden Song, that'd appreciated. Thanks in advance!:

Many thanks for yer time, Hali! Definitely many things to keep in mind from it.

P.S. "(I think the battle theme is from Golden Sun)" <-Which song in Golden Sun?! :o The soundtrack is entirely original, so if the resemblance is too close then things need to be changed.

P.P.S. @Reviews in general: Could we please include the amount of content played (i.e. up to Arc I) at the top of reviews? Just so it'd be easier to absorb the pointers more accurately - and also easier on my heart, heheh.

The short demo can be played via either mouse-only or keyboard-only. Playing with mouse-only is recommended, but please keep the game at full-screen only (or read the .txt heads up in the folder). Cheers, and hope you enjoy.

When Ralle Peregrine was a child, he began to hear a mysterious melody in his head. Around the same time, his childhood sweetheart, Lyra Shire, began to lose her hearing.

As they grew up, Ralle became a guitarist to accompany the strange melody that only he hears whenever he closes his eyes. By then, Lyra had gone completely deaf.

He wrote many songs for her, but she could hear none of them.

One day, while Ralle was playing that particular tune at his usual spot, a wagon came by and stopped. Out came a man; a wanderer named Traviston Estel, with a piece of rye hanging out of his mouth.

That of which he soon spat out, as he took out a music box, echoing the very melody that Ralle has been hearing all these years.

Bewildered, Ralle questioned him of the origin of the song - but the man did not know. In fact, it has been something that has been stuck in his head ever since he was a child as well, so he had the music box custom-made to keep it inside.

Upon hearing about Lyra's deafness as they conversed, the man spoke of the possibility for means to cure her in the big cities far, far away. For the sake of the common song of unknown origin they shared, Traviston offered to take them with him, as he was heading there himself.

Thrilled at even the remotest possibility of curing her, the couple took up the offer. And so began a journey, filled with obstacles, that uncovered a mysterious past that spanned centuries.

But they only had one wish,
For that one day, Lyra would finally be able to hear the songs Ralle wrote for her.

<Lyra's Melody - The Song She Whispered to Me> is a light, fairytale "RPG", with an aim of creating an interactive cinematic experience through a focus on story, atmosphere and music.

The main characters are obviously Ralle and Lyra. Here are their WIP portraits:

Lyra Shire:

Ralle Peregrine:

As Ralle, Lyra and co. travel through their journey, Ralle would try to write a song whenever they stop by at a town or notable locations, as a "journal" to capture their experiences from their travel - In hope of when Lyra is cured one day, she'd listen to them and be reminded of them in a way that she has never been before. Each of these locations will not have any BGM upon first arrival; but after Ralle finishes writing a song for the occasion, it'd then become that location's BGM.

P.P.S.
I was originally going to release this as part of the Release Something event, but ended up being late. :-\ I understand that my projects don't exactly fit like a glove around here; but hopefully you guys could take a quick moment and give it a spin, as I do find the feedback from this side very helpful.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

@Chaos:
Definitely much better. Not only are the texts now readable, changing the top hue to black-ish gives a really nice contrast too. There's a nice and mysterious atmosphere now. c:

(Kinda reminds me of Protoss for some reason, heh.)

@J-man:
I like the graphics themselves. c: But given the setting/BG picture, the sprite seems to have a pasted-on feel due to its brightness in contrast to the cave. It's not too big of a deal, but if you could darken the sprites via events for the setting, or perhaps lighten up the cave BG picture a bit, it'd mesh better. Looking good none the less!

@Dis:
Looking nice. c: But shouldn't the waterfalls end one tile lower, as right now it's splashing in mid-air? (I may be misinterpreting what the tiles are representing though).

Hm, I suppose one alternative would be to choose thumb up/iron fist/thumb down for each of the categories , accompanied by a brief summary. But that would probably be a hassle, and fists may end up being overused.

P.S. @Brick: Despite what stat said, I really wouldn't recommend going any further. The bottle neck at Chap 2 alone would probably put you into a state of mild hibernation.

@East:
I think that energy system works well with ABS too. Sorta reminds me of that DBZ fighting game where you can charge up via meleeing, heheh. Perhaps you'd be able to get some from being hit too, but that'd pretty much make it a limit break system.
