SAILERIUS'S PROFILE
Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

Sporting a new look!
I kind of agree. I like the idea, but it reads to me as "Chronology of the Ast Era" at a glance. I have to look at it for a few seconds before it resolves properly.
What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
I tried playing Dark Souls III but the clunky, buggy combat put me off pretty fast. I might give Brave Exvius a shot since everyone seems to be talking about it.

author=suzy_cheesedreamsI was also scammed into wasting a lot of time playing TW3 after hearing about how amazing the writing and quests are. I'm convinced that everyone who's going gaga over it has only ever played like... Skyrim before, because the writing and quest design are terrible. You might be thinking that it gets better later, but they actually front-loaded all of the best content in the game into the first few quests, so if you're not enjoying it now, you're not going to like it much more later.
The Witcher 3 supposedly has great storytelling and characters, but so far all that I've encountered has been a boring side-quest laden world. Geralt is about as interesting as an old bit of gristle for a protagonist. The writing and dialogue doesn't seem especially well written so far... so I don't know what all the hype is about. It's undeniably pretty, but so what?
A forced ten hour long series of fetch quests eventually led me to giving up on the game. It's a shame that it sucks so much, because the worldbuilding and atmosphere are actually really fantastic. It has a sense of place that no other RPG I've played has, and you can tell the art team was really passionate about bringing this vivid vision to life, but it's all wasted on a mediocre game where 80% of your time is spent running from quest marker to quest marker and the other 20% is doing MMO fetch quests when you get there.
I now regret not having banned Mafia a little...

I find it pretty useful to see how many posts were made in each topic and by which people
That is true most of the time, except when the posts page is completely flooded by posts in one topic, which makes it impossible to discern if and when there has been any activity literally anywhere else on the site.
Programming cutscenes is probably the most tedious part of gam mak for me. I don't know how some devs do it.
It took me about fifty hours across two weeks to make the final cutscene of Vacant Sky Act II (most of the time spent was playtesting dialogue to see if it was timed appropriately to ensure the average player would get to certain lines of dialogue during certain points in the song), and it's only about seven minutes long. It's really depressing how disproportionate the amount of work a cutscene is to make versus how much mileage you get out of it.
I've played a lot of games that make fun of tropes and cliches and most of the time, they're not funny.
It's a lot easier to make fun of someone else's ideas than to make an earnest effort to come up with your own ideas. These games are often creatively cowardly because the creator is terrified of putting their own ideas out there for others to criticize. It's much more comfortable to hide behind a veil of satire or apathy, to pretend to be better than people who try.

Sailerius, you're entitled to your own opinion but I have to let you know that it's disgusting and wrong.
You mean like the part where Zidane molests Garnet and it's played for laughs?

I decided to give FF9 a shot to see if it's as bad as I remember it being. It's not.
I soon found myself playing other games during the constant wait times in battle, and then I realized they were more fun than FF9 so I stopped playing it again.
I also just finished a replay of MGS2, which not only holds up to my memory of it but is even more brilliant on a second time through. It's eerie how well it speaks to cultural issues of today, which are even more relevant than when it first came out.
It's worse.

I don't want to argue with people regarding the amount of playtime someone "needs" to make to write a review of a game... AGAIN. -_-
Hell, I'd extend that further and say that if you're not engaged with a game in 20 minutes, the game sucks. The fastest way to identify an incompetent developer is when they belt out the "it gets better" line.
I love when apologists for terrible games get defensive about it, too, blaming the player for being impatient instead of the game for having wretched pacing.
When I review games, I force myself to sit through at least 2 hours no matter how bad it is, but if I haven't committed to doing a review, I'll usually drop a game in 20 minutes if it's putting me to sleep.
