Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

2016 Misaos (Fin)

Out of curiosity, what's the purpose of listing games in descending order of nominations? That means the more popular a game already is, the more visibility it gets. It might be a good idea next time to randomize the order and not display the number of nominations.

Reading the list, it's hard to resist the urge to think "well these ones only got a couple nominations, so it's probably not worth checking them out."

Ao Oni started as an RMXP game and it got a live action movie and anime adaptation.

Final Fantasy XV

I'm about 96 hours into it now and just managed to get the last of the Royal Arms. After hearing that it was going to be open world, I was very skeptical about it, but surprisingly, I completely changed my opinion on the game about halfway through. It is far and away the best in the series, excluding spinoffs, and I went ahead and bought the season pass, which is a first for me.

It certainly has flaws, but I think its flaws are pretty endemic to the series itself. Most of my complaints with it were even more true in the earlier entries.

I'm looking forward to seeing the additional story campaigns that are coming!

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

In 2016, I had a resolution of writing 2500 words a day, and I managed to stick with it for three months until I ran into plotting problems because I hadn't written an outline first. So I think I'm going to give it another shot with a bit more refinement:

In 2017, I will aspire to write 3500 words a day. Before beginning a story, I will spend two weeks writing an outline. The first week will be banging out a high-level outline and the second week will be expanding it into a chapter-by-chapter outline. Afterwards, I will write until the story is done, after which I will start outlining the next story.

In a movie/game, I think it's better to have amazing memorable action/gameplay and unmemorable dialogue than amazing memorable action/gameplay and corny dialogue.
Why is it one or the other? You should strive to do everything well.

Now errybody quit writing everything like it's translated from Japanese, dang it!

This so much. You can always tell when the only exposure to writing someone has is from games poorly translated from Japanese, because they use weird grammar and turns of phrase that never appear in English. The one that always, always gets me is when a character says they "saw a dream." When have you ever seen a native English speaker use that phrase? Every time I see it I cringe, and it's everywhere in indie RPGs and visual novels.

Honestly, overdoing this kind of themed dialogue is way worse and way more noticable than having character-neutral dialogue.

I don't think there's any quality that's worse than being unmemorable, though. I would rather experience something that stands out badly with character than something I'll never remember. If I never remember it, then what was the point? Why was it there? Ideally, a player should be able to identify the speaker of every line of dialogue without a speaker tag, portrait, or other indicator. That's the mark of strong character writing.

Nice! You might want to go with a more recent render of him, though, since that's of his older character design that wasn't used in the final game.

There's a pretty good high res one ( http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/b/bf/Noctis_Red.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20130611220540 ) that's used in the UI for the game itself.

I finished FFXV. I don't think I've ever been so amazed yet disappointed at a game, ever.

It's best to go into it with no preconceptions. I feel very fortunate that I knew nothing about the game when I played it.
