EDIT: There is actually a reason why sometimes, names and faces don't appear for text boxes. When no name or face is given, it's the protagonist's thoughts (which aren't spoken).
I guess that makes sense, but sometimes it's hard to know who is actually thinking - the masked guy's sprite is shown on the maps in the intro dungeon, but the thoughts don't sound like they would be his.

I'll be able to provide more constructive/scathing criticism once the game, y'know, starts. The first half-hour lets you move around, but not do anything worthwhile. Please fix the corpses.

With the exception of the prologue where you're Vastale, the protagonist is always Auria, so the thoughts are always hers. And yeah, I acknowledge that it takes a while for the game to get started. With East Naven, however, you can skip all of the shopping and other sidequests if you so choose by just going home prematurely. Having the extra EXP from the sidequests helps, but it doesn't adversely affect you to just go ahead.

With regard to the corpses, I had thought of doing that originally, but I felt that the paths would get clogged and annoying to navigate, seeing as how the hallways are only three tiles wide.

I'm strongly opposed to the impressions idea. It's already a problem where malicious users can drag down a game's review score, but having impressions would make it even easier. For example, a ne'er-do-well could click "played the entire game" and then write a generic justification ("story is boring"/"gameplay is unbalanced"/"buggy and bad mapping") and easily wreck a game's score, taking far less effort than writing an actual review.
It surprises me a little that nearly everyone can only look at only ONE end of the spectrum here, instead of the whole thing.

I honestly feel like the negative outlooks in regard to these types of systems is ingrained under false pretenses. Other sites that use this sort of format, and that do it in the right way, really benefit from having it there. Good games get good scores, even with the extremists from both sides pitching in, because the "ok" people are talking too. Sometimes the player scores differ from the review scores, but that's not a bad thing, it just gives potential players more perspectives to base their playing decisions off of.

Yeah, jerks will still be able to be jerks, but nice guys will also be able to be nice guys. Oh! And the "meh" guys will be there too. This leads to a score more representative of the game's actual quality, because it's from everyone's point of view.

RRR has a system exactly like this and there is not a single game with a higher average than 3/5. And there are only a few with an average that high.

Saw the first couple videos for Vacant Sky. Your pronunciation of "Virad" was actually correct. Thanks for pointing out some minor things (such as UI quirks) that hadn't occurred to me before.

This I can agree with. Its like those games that some overconfident, soulless, maniacally-laughing douche comes in and destroys an entire village and makes the main character watch as he decapitates his little sister. Of course the hero goes "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", typically following a "Don't hurt her! For the love of GOD, don't hurt her, you lunatic!" "Grr, I hurt her because I'm teh EVIL!", but just how it goes about is so hilariously terrible that any attempt at inspiring a greater feeling of "I want to kick this guy so hard in the testes that it sends them rocketing through his spine, severing it." falls flat and kills the mood for the inevitable boss battle ahead.

It takes an amazing story in commercial video games to move me, I'm much more often moved by movies and Anime. Emotion in RM games is generally nonexistent at all, but I actually do laugh over the RPG Maker comedies. When someone tries to be serious in an RM game, it actually might make me laugh anyway because of how satirically bad it is.

It sounds like you just haven't been playing good RM games.

Multiple love interests in a serious rpg... Does it work?

Romances in RPGs are usually about as well-done as romances in action movies. Adding complexity is not necessary when no one is paying attention anyway. As long as the hero gets the girl at the end, it's all good. Adding complexity causes the focus of the game to change, making people pay more attention to the love story, and therefore shifting the story into a different genre. For this reason, if you're making a game that's not about romance, it can often be a bad idea to spend much time and effort on it. Keep it simple.

Of course, there's an entire genre of games that deals exclusively with multiple romances - dating sims. They tend to be dreadfully un-fun, but they can also work well as a sidequest in a normal RPG, like Dragon Age: Origins.

However, personally, I didn't like how this was implemented in Dragon Age. The fact that I was only manipulating the romance in order to get bonus stats made it feel less real. Also the fact that you could actually have sex seemed totally retarded, like the otherwise very serious and mature game was suddenly marketed to 14 year old boys. It was insulting.

That makes it seem as if you're implying that all RPGs are like "action movies." Why can't RPGs be like "movies" and "action RPGs" just so happen to make up a large majority of them? I don't think it's impossible to see a romance RPG, or a mystery RPG, or a thriller RPG.
