SAILERIUS'S PROFILE
Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

Is it unethical/frowned upon...
post=148251I'm sure far more time, effort, and money went into making tilesets for big-name SNES games than went into a custom tileset for an RM* game. It's awfully hypocritical for someone to flip shit at someone else for taking their original graphics while they themselves use graphics stolen from someone else.A. People who make custom graphics they don't want stolen don't generally USE rips.
B. NewBlack beat me to this, but yeah, the "money" part here is the key. Unlike us poor starving indie creators, SquareEnix employees got paid.
In which case you're stealing from the company who paid the artist to make the graphics.
Is it unethical/frowned upon...
post=148221post=148217You're right yeah. Thinking about it, considering how long-winded and tiresome it is to just do some heavy edits.. I'd be pretty upset if somebody bigger/better than me were to use my custom content. Some guys on here are more "famous" in the community than others and franky, put out some much more awesome games than I could muster myself right now. I'd be gutted if something I painstakingly pixelled together was used without my permission.
I am pretty sure there is a difference between using well recognized graphics from games that came out 14 years ago to using perhaps unknown graphics that one dude edited/created within the last three or four.
The major problem with taking graphics from other RPGMaker games is that people pretty much assume wherever they were seen first has some magical claim to them, so if I take graphics from some obscure game and use them for a more well-known game, those graphics are associated with my game, not the game that they originated from.
Nobody is going to see an FF6 chip and go "this chipset is from an Rm2k3 game" but they might see a custom RM2k3 chip and think "this chipset is from SUCHANDSUCH game" where it really wasn't
I mean, if I used a panorama from The Way people would probably be able to guess, but there are lots of obscure games and custom content and it is a pretty horrible thing to do to use it without permission if its possible to get that permission. Even if you at no point claim to have made it yourself (or even if you say in big letter who the original author was) a lot of people are going to associate that content with your game as the original source, which is bad business all around.
Anyways, I'll be asking the relevant sources, there are a couple.. And I don't think they actually made or even maybe edited the particular resources I used (they tend to tag their custom resources from what I've seen).. However... I'll ask anyway.

Act I+ - Testers?
comment=37048
Wow I haven't even finished everything with Act 3 yet, I'm not sure I can keep up ^^;
Haha, yeah. >_> I'm trying to finish all this before summer ends, because school will drain all of my free time again.
What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
Finally caved and got a Steam account. Got Dragon Age: Origins on sale and am loving it. Playing a mage is fantastic. I love enslaving people with blood magic and watching as no one in my party comments on my flagrant use of forbidden arts.

Multiple love interests in a serious rpg... Does it work?
It's a subject that's played with pretty heavily in one of my games (Vacant Sky). I suppose it's a challenge, yes, but it's no more or less difficult than writing any other kind of romance. That being said, I've never seen an RM* game with a romance so badly-written it made me feel embarrassed to play the game. Few people can handle writing a romance competently, so it's a challenge to write a situation with multiple love interests in the sense that it's a challenge to write romantic scenes in the first place.
As long as the multiple love interests are all interesting and different enough from each other that it's not just an aesthetic choice, go for it. However, I hate romance thrown in just for the sake of having it. Have it somehow affect the characters or the plot beyond who shows up in the epilogue with the main character. Or, heaven forbid, have other members of the party have love interests. Maybe the girl you've got the hots for is secretly an admirer of your bro.
And for God's sake, enough falling in love at first sight with mysterious women destined to save the world.

Vacant Sky Vol. 1: Contention

Hi everyone!
I feel REALLY stupid for asking this but it seems I can't find the last cat I'm supposed to feed. I know that I should find them during nightfall but can only find - as hard as I look.
Any help? Please?
I believe there are two cats which are only out at night. One is by the pier and one is by Pizza Empire in Magnus Square. The others are around during the daytime.

Hey, I uh...keep getting a FMODEx error, line 58 or some such, in Act 1. I haven't even gotten out of the facility yet. They occured when I tried to use the Pulse awakening and during a cutscene.
I'm kinda pissy now, I wanted to play it, I like the presentation so far.
(Could do with some sprite animations during cutscenes, though; but this might just be the first bit).
EDIT: Fixed the error. Very annoying though. D'ya know why it was happening?
EDIT2: That first battle against the Virad SUCKS.
EDIT3: Sorry, I'm not playing anymore. I don't care about the battles being improved later on or something, this is ridiculous. No items, items you can buy are crap, and you barely have enough money to buy them anyway. I should not be being wiped out by three bandits.
I liked what I saw of the story so far, but the battles are too horrendous to carry on. Sorry. :/
The error is caused by some sound cards or something not playing nice with the Fmod DLL. I thought the new releases were packaged with a fixed version. Sorry.
What battle is it you're stuck on? I know that Act I is really unfair (I'm working on remaking it as we speak). If you would like to email me your savefile, I can help you out with the battle you're having trouble with.
