Wattafak. I tried this today.
Until the battle where I obviously died because I went up and down the selections trying to figure out what did what while being pounded by enemies.
But holy shit this game looks pretty amazing. Graphically that is. You know this. Four pages of comments have probably said the same thing. I just wanted to say that holy fucking shit. I hope the story doesn't turn into anime tripe though and that there's as little as possible of anything non-city :D

Götterdämmerung RPG
I played some of the demo found here but I didn't get very far because apparently I needed a key AND THERE WAS NO HINT WHATSOEVER WHERE THE KEY WOULD BE so I wandered around randomly around town for a while not getting a single hint from anyone and quit.
I hope you've improved the beginning since then because that was some horrible game design right there. In the beginning I don't care about anyone in this game. Random townsperson might spew out exposition in massive amounts (like the professor person or the car repairman) and I won't listen for a second. All I'll be interested in is finding a goddamn key so I can start playing.
Whew. Got that off my chest. This game looked cool. But... I didn't get that far I guess.

Are those red and black tyranids?
Nah there's mostly a bunch of Wood Elves. Cavalry on the far right, then Wardancers, then assorted stuff that is part Blood Bowl, part Empire and even a 40k guy or two.
Games and Why You Play Them
I think I'm late to this topic.
When I play games it can happen for a bunch of different reasons. One important thing is always the attention span. I've developed that internet multi-tasking habit thing which means that I start to feel uncomfortable any time I focus on only one thing at a time. If I'm not doing at least two things at once I become restless.
I guess I should do something about that...
But about playing games. I like games to be available quick. I'm easily distracted so if a game doesn't rope me in immediately nothing will ever come of it. One click and I'm in, preferably killing things with explosions of awesome.
So to get me to play you sort of have to promise me quick casual play. I see some puzzle games on RMN and I tend to go for those because they usually deliver immediately. (Start Game Start Puzzle Waste Time)
I guess I don't play a whole lot of games, that initial barrier is difficult to pass. Especially with RPGs that promise stuff like character development and deep enriching stories. Combined with unappealing screenshots of people walking around a top-down map filled with grassland and some people or sometimes a screenshot of an SNES era RPG battle. I really hate SNES era RPG battles. So oftentimes I will choose not to try a game based on the sole fact that there's a screenshot of a battle system.
Screenshots mean a lot. Pretty graphics is the best way to get me interested. And by pretty I obviously mean "interesting". Not everyone has the same sense of pretty as you do.
And also, once you've grabbed me with screenshots it would be nice if the game itself was awesome too. Over 50% of the time I've been "burned". Reviews help. Especially the negative ones. It's always more important to know what a game does wrong than what it does right.
Fun is not a reason to seek out a game. Fun is the reason to keep playing a game. It's also one of those words that are completely useless to everyone, because it doesn't give any useful information.

Also, I have noticed very few people mentioned the word "fun" as being a motivator for why they check out a game. This depresses me.

Super RMN Bros.
The end time is different depending on what time zone you have Azn. So someone might have a 12am/pm time there. (I have a 2am time there)
Creativity: Thinking about "Experience/Leveling Systems"
post=132865post=132861While that is simplistic, it's almost exactly the same way WoW does quests. The bigger the quest, the more experience you get. I'm trying to get people to think of something a little more complex.
You could give stat points or a whole level for completing different missions, or sidequests. And the harder the mission, the bigger the EXP.
To be honest there's really no other fair way to give experience. (as long as you have a system of giving experience). If you overcome a challenge you should get experience. The harder the challenge the more reward you get. (occasionally the reward can come in awesome items or other stuff instead of course).
I mean it would be sort of dumb to give more experience for easier challenges. Or perhaps you could TAKE AWAY experience. I don't know. But if you work with experience points the only real way to give them is to give them away depending on how awesome the player is.
