Man... Where are the diagrams? I would not have minded some sort of download count/score diagram and of course a bell curve of the "amount of reviews" vs "score".
This is like a datadump. And with all the first person narrative it's not very statistically interesting at that.

Action 52 VX - 24 Hour RPG Maker Throwdown
You know what I hadn't read the rules before now and noticed that I didn't follow half the rules. (the one that said I should bring a screenshot and the one that said I should tell how to run the game)
Woops. Just click one of the .exe I'm sure something will happen...

The Gamers
Just wanted to point out that there was an interview with the creator of The Gamers on Fear The Boot last week. Probably not really necropost worthy but clearly not new topic worthy either so necropost it is.
Post your dead projects!
A Warhammer 40k strategy fangame that I ended because I noticed I had no idea to do enemy AI.
A zombie sim inspired by the Zafehouse game. It died because I just didn't have a proper system idea that worked. And I wanted to cram too much into too little.
eSF-RPG-RPG
A game based on a setting I've worked on for over ten years. This was back when I still used rm2k (and 2k3 wasn't out yet).
hmm those were all the screenshots I found online from before. I probably have hundreds of others that I never bothered to take screenshots of.

How To Be A Reviewer
One of the criteria I personally go by and believe that everyone should follow for a good review is to not only play but finish the game they're reviewing. If a reviewer hasn't played through the whole game I think it should be mentioned immediately in the beginning of a review. Usually you can tell what a game is like by playing a bit of it but for a good and proper review I think one should preferably play through all of it.
Exceptions exist of course. Like an insanely difficult game that you just can't finish it might be reasonable to write a review after not quite finishing it (though giving it plenty of try before giving up).

Thoughts On: Horror Games
Speaking of Penumbra. This game seems really scary:

Request Time! Templar Knight Enemies!
The Ulyanov Brothers:
Vladimir, Ilya and Joseph Ulyanov
Three vodka-drinking brothers from a circus act transported from 1960s Soviet to present day.
Joseph is the strongman, a tall big man with a Borat-moustache. He's as strong as Pippi Longstocking.
Ilya is a small ratty man with round glasses and wearing an Ushanka with the flaps down. He has a tactical nuke strapped on his back and uses it as part of his circus act as he can do all sorts of acrobatic stunts with it. (all with the added suspense that it might detonate if he fails!)
Vladimir is the leader and a gloomy man with an evil beard. He's a magician, though he does not have the common top hat since it's a symbol of capitalist scum. Instead he's wearing a worker's cap but he can still produce animals from it. (including but not limited to all sorts of attack animals. He has said he could conjure an elephant from the cap if he wanted to.)
These guys should probably not be recurring. Though they could probably be sent back to the 60s in their first appearance so they could make a triumphant return five years later.

Thoughts On: Horror Games
I'm actually not a big fan of being scared but I still love scary games. Resident Evil is one of my favorite series (though I haven't played 5. Not properly) and even though 4 changed the gameplay I didn't think the scariness went down all that much. I still panicked at the big monsters and I still was scared when I heard the chanting monks when I entered a new room.
Some of my favorite scary moments are actually in games that aren't primarily horror. It seems a lot of games have "scary bits" just like a lot of games have "stealth bits". I'm thinking of the Half-Life 2 bits. Ravenguard was slightly scary but the opening of HL2: Episode 1 had me crying in a corner.
Similarily there's also Vampire: Bloodlines which has nearly every single horror trope in it and many of them worked pretty well. The Haunted House oozed with atmosphere. The zombie house had me panicked. The sewer monsters had me scared (though mostly because I thought "Just these and then I'll go to bed" and it was 4am).
I've recently tried my hands at Bioshock and that game is also kinda scary (at least in the beginning). Though some of that is because the controls feel so wobbly I'm not sure if I hit anything when I shoot. But it is filled with scary atmosphere.
STALKER had also some sweet scary moments because of the game's gameplay. Wandering the swamps at night and then suddenly hearing some mutated monster coming from the high grass and not being quite sure. It had it's scary charm and the way the game is designed it's also something you could probably avoid if you wanted to.
I've never tried a Silent Hill game because I think they are just too scary for me. I generally don't look for scary games but I tend to enjoy the scary parts in the games I play.
