Nah. It's a community effort from the Reality on the Norm community. Only the player character was done by me. (and some of the inventory items of course)

You can actually download all the resources from the RON homepage

NES version of "Left 4 Dead"

I read about thsi some time ago on RPS. I have to admit it's a cool idea but the gameplay trailer does look like one of those really, really bad games from the NES era.

and the restriction of no full games allowed.
I completely missed this. My game is probably as full it'll ever be so should be removed from that list.

I think a better way of handling it would be to have the left click for the mouse be walk and right click could be a context sensitive action. You could walk up to the Baron by left clicking on him or right click to interact with it (in the Baron's case, It'd be 'Talk To'). Item interaction could be the same: When you have an item active left click moves you to where the item is and right click is to 'Use' Item on 'X' (or if nothing is selected, deselect the item)

The thing about that is if you click the buttons in the GUI with the left mouse button I tend to automatically think that "the magic of the left mouse button" was transferred to what I just clicked on the GUI. (so when I left click on the brush symbol in a paint program I expect that left-clicking on the canvas will use the brush) It's sort of personal conditioning.

One that could be better since I had already stripped it down to Look, Use and Talk. You could easily combine use and talk and then do what later adventure games did which is: right click to look, left click to walk and double left click to interact. (and only have the inventory there at the bottom, or alternatively on a different screen)

Cheating in video games

post=114729
Well if it is a single player game and you feel you can't go on without a cheat, i believe you.... you do not deserve to play that game YOU CHEATER!

.... some games lose the hole idea after you cheat..

Actually I'd say that you can do whatever you want in a single player game. However if you're a multiplayer cheater you don't deserve to live.

Maybe it's because I don't play these types of games very often, but it took me a few minutes to figure out I had to "Use" the door to enter buildings in tAoMG. Sounds silly when I type it like that.

That's actually pretty interesting. And a great example of how unintuitive a GUI can be for a person not used to it.

Edit: I managed to finish the game. It was short, but enjoyable. One thing I have to wonder though, and I might go back to test, was there multiple endings?

I don't think there were multiple endings. I would have to check that. But I think I made the game fairly linear. (so that, for example, you can't be without the letter in the end.)

That Kill RON Guy Game -

This stuff has motivated me to try to fix some of the bugs if I can read my old code anymore. And perhaps add some interactions I had hoped to add originally.

I like the attempt at a simplified interface (instead of the bajillion commands Ye Olde Adventure Games used to have) but this really needs some polish. For example, clicking the rope does nothing (Had to 'Use' Rope) but for the Toy Shotgun I could left click to use with another item just fine. Or plenty of times I wanted to use/look/talk to something but the default left action command was WalkTo. I like the context sensitive actions but most of the time they just weren't there.

I tried to make it so that you could walk around while having another command active. Since I've usually been annoyed in games when I've had to click "walk" in order to look at something just outside the screen. I think that usually it'll say in the top bar if you can interact with something or not and if there's not text there (apart from walk, or look or use) it'll default to walk where you clicked. (while having the use/look active so you don't have to click around the GUI more than necessary)

The Assassination of Michael Gower

Exclusive screenshot! Not even on the gamepage!

Play as a fanatic cultist out to destroy Michael Gower. With sound effects straight from Fallout!
I suggest you open the winsetup and play the game windowed in 640 resolution (or play it full screen in 320). I found it hard to read in 320 windowed...

How tolerant are you to legitimately difficult bosses?

have to do another ten minutes of chipping of a small amount of health from a boss monster before retiring into a corner to hide from an attack and then repeat.
Stop playing games with shitty bosses. :)

Yeah I play too much Resident Evil. And... what was that DS game... Henry Hatsworth. I really hated the bosses in that game too. They were the exact example of Hit-jump-to-safety-hit-repeat thing that is the reason I don't like bosses. Mega Man does this a lot too... I guess these are all really old games but it seems newer games just don't have bosses at all. (fortunately)

How tolerant are you to legitimately difficult bosses?

I'm generally not very tolerant. It also has to do with the fact that I tend to dislike bosses overall.

Grinding away at the same monster for too long feels tedious to me. When a fight takes a lot of time the frustration when dying is even higher because it means I would have to do another ten minutes of chipping of a small amount of health from a boss monster before retiring into a corner to hide from an attack and then repeat.

I must prefer bossfights that are essentially hordes. Where I kill a bunch of regular dudes in order to finish a level rather than have to fight a huge thing with a red glowing orb somewhere on it so I'll know where to hit it (and even then it'll take me fifteen hits to that red glowing thing before anything will happen)

Goddamn bosses.

guys i hope you weren't expecting anything different to a james cameron film ??
Heh I haven't even seen Titanic I didn't know what to expect

He's made a couple of other huge movies too. In fact if you haven't seen a single Cameron film before you've really been missing out.
