WATCHMEN

I saw it today.

It was a bit long.

That was my immediate thought after seeing. No actually that was my thought somewhere near the end of it. At the end I thought, damn this song is good. The soundtrack is glorious, you can't go wrong with Leonard Cohen. And all that other stuff.

But yeah it was a bit long and the pacing felt a bit off some times. I think it is an adaption problem. You can have a wall of text in one frame in a comic book but you can't have that in a movie. So there was a lot of coolness and depth and all that. And it was damn gorgeous. Goddamn it was gorgeous.

Man. It looked really good. But I guess it really does suffer a bit from being a direct adaption, basically it's just an imitation. It's a great imitation but it's still just an imitation.

[Fun] Worldbuilding 2: Encycatlas of The Big Blue (aka Juvex Sector 76A2)

It's a try. It's losely based on an ancient concept planet I made once.

Chaos
Chaos is a planet located in the outer rim of the galaxy, orbiting the dying sun C12-Cerberus. The planet is a centre for anarchy and pirates, evil scientists, general villains, bounty hunters and all manner of scum often visit the place. The planet is under constant warfare from different warbands and tribes and locations and hubs on the planet are often under different leadership between visits.
The planet has only known peace once, during the Fifteen minute peace when all fighting stopped for, you guessed it, fifteen minutes. The constant warfare has taken a toll on Chaos, actually breaking the planet apart and the planet is split in two.

Despite all this weird stuff the planet is habitable by most of the races in the galaxy and even if there's constans war and fighting it's also one of few hubs where all manner of races gather.

Attempts have been made to pacify Chaos, including trying to "blow up the planet once and for all" and "finish what the planet itself clearly started ages ago". These quotes are from Warlord Djenghi Khunundrum, the famous pirate-turned-warlord-turned-emperor who, it is said, was insulted by a bartender from the Nekkid Chikks bar on Chaos early in his career of counquest.

Chaos has no central government and anyone claiming to be government tends to get scorned and/or shot down on sight. However Chaos is the central hub for many organizations, including the Brotherhood of Brothels, Uthan's Warriors, I-didnaedoit-honest and the League of All Planets Demanding Allocation of Natural Consumable Energies (L.A.P.D.A.N.C.E). Ironically the Cult of Peace also has a huge group on Chaos since "It's the perfect place to preach" (quote from Low Priest Jonathon Middleleg).

Chaos itself consists of little more than rocks and occasional water sources. The natural flora consists of gnarly trees and cactae. Especially the Booze pinhead, which is one of the most widely sought-after cactus in the galaxy. The fauna of the planet consists of mostly small animals. The Three-eyed nastyteeth is the planet's largest predator and is about the size of an Earth fox.

Tourists visiting Chaos are advised to back up their personalities in clones before visiting, since fatalities are fairly common. The travel agency eXXXtreem traVeSTy TravelS has a popular package for people wanting to try new experiences on Chaos.

Guilty Pleasures

Romantic Comedies.

It started out innocently but by now I think I've watched every single crappy romantic comedy released in the last five years. (It's even gone so far that I've bought a couple)

I also like Gossip Girl...

NUMBERS and Your Appreciation

I tend to hit the Optimize button and then use that as a suggestion for personal optimization. For example, I've been playing a lot of Football Manager again over the last couple of weeks and there I tend to let the assistant coaches makes the first decision on what players to field but I always tend to tweak them around a bit since I have some players that have done well in the past and stuff like that.

Of course that game has a lot of numbers but I tend to just skim over them, focusing a couple of things to see what "feel" I get overall.

Of course that's large-scale optimization when there's too many factors for my puny brain to make out (I will take a city advisor's advice under consideration in Civ-type games too, even though I still manage it myself I find the advisor to be useful in... advising.). In smaller scale (Let's say a cRPG or a tabletop game adaption) games where I know exactly what every number does I'm all over customizing it personally. Of course agonizing over where to put that extra Skill Point. (And generally not spending those "optional superpoints" until I "need them" (which is never). Example: I will hold on to a Potion of +1Strength for the entire game, never knowing when to use it)

Trash The Movie Above You!

It would be harder to say something good about Swordfish.

The Third Man.

Nudity in Games

The "HOLY COW SHE'S NAKED" phenomena I think comes from a pre-internet experience of having difficulty gaining access to pornography for young males.

I still experience these feelings.
Yeah. This I guess is the thing I dislike. The thought of nudity automatically goes to porn and sex and all those things. When in reality being naked hasn't got a whole lot to do with all that.

Nudity in 2d and 3d games don't bother me at all.
What about 4d games?

Nudity in Games

I think there should be more casual nudity in games. I don't get the whole "HOLY SHIT IT'S NAKED"-thing.

Trash The Movie Above You!

I'M SORRY BUT I CANNOT POSSIBLY SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT PIPPI LONGSTOCKING.

Unless it's the cartoon. Then it is a travesty to all the good things Pippi stands for. But if it is the classic then I guess the visual effects are less than stunning. (There's some pretty bad bluescreen work in that thing)

Death Race 2000

'Important Discussion' time guys...

I just tend to ignore thread that have reached their second page that I haven't previously participated in because I know that by the second page no threads have anything in to do with the original topic.

Still, Harry Potter on the other hand...we are probably talking about some of the worst movies made in the last ten years. They even manage to be a complete dissapointment to the feeble minded fans of the pathetic trash they were based on.
You don't really think that. Unless you haven't read the books or seen the films. There's a lot of good in the Potterfilms and they've got Alan Rickman in them. (and since Columbus first two films the Potterfilms have really improved)

The books are also great. There's some good storytelling in the books. Filled with adventure and excitement and that magic that any kid dreams of. When I first read the Potterbooks I went back to te time back when I read some of Roald Dahl's stuff. The books have the same feeling to them. And it's a good feeling. It's not pathetic trash. Not by a long shot.

Now I can see why someone would like to disassociate themselves with Potter. The Potter fandom is a bit weird, strange and overexcited. It also consists of mostly younger people. In a way the Potter fandom is like the anime fandom. A bunch of overexited kids who dress up in weird clothes and speak in a lingo no normal (muggle) person could understand.

So the way to not be seen as part of the Potter fandom is to say "potter sux lol".

But Potter is definitely not drivel. And the Pottermovies are works of high art compared to <insert> Movie. (A series that take up all the top10 spots for "worst movies in the last ten years")
