Hi I do art mostly but also do games.

Please read my comic, Patchwork and Lace. It's about a Lovecraftian Disney Princess dark mage and her superpowered undead partner hunting monsters and being bad at communication.

What do guinea pigs dream about? Probably not this, but just roll with it.

How to add fun to grinding?

Extra Credits did a pretty good overview of why people do grinding despite the fact that it's not all that fun.

McBick, did you get your answer? I don't think we got a solid definition of what you meant by "grinding."

I approve of hats in general. And that one in particular.

How to add fun to grinding?

Isn't that what things like sidequests are good for?

One way I'd suggest is having a somewhat expanded world: if you just follow the basic plot, it's smallish and linear; but if you meander and explore, it could offer little rewards. That way, grinding can be as simple as going back through an area and seeing what other things it has to offer.

Generally, the big problem for grinding that I have is that it's so darn repetitive. If there's a supplementary goal, then it becomes a lot more tolerable.

Is RNG good or bad?

I kind of feel like some amount of RNG is part and parcel of RPGs because of their origin in dice-rolling tabletop games. If I wanted a game that relies solely on my skill, I'd play a platformer or something.

Of course, all random numbers all the time is probably not a fun way to do a game.* However, I tend to enjoy a level of luck and gambling in my games; it feels a little more "real" and exciting to me.

*I suppose there's a way to make it fun if it's The Gimmick, but that'd be beyond my designing skills.

I have Fireworks, but I am not very good at editing stuff. I can do it if it's not too complicated.

I'm used to raster programs, rather than vector ones, so I'm not sure if you can do this in fireworks. (I highly recommend GIMP as a raster editing option.)

To fix the outlines, all you'd need to do is use a single-pixel brush in pencil mode. Select the darkest color on the sprite, adjust it so that it's several shades darker, and then just trace around the sprite with the pencil tool to add the outline. If you hit a spot that's a different hue, like the metal bits on the side of the vending machine, you'll probably want to switch to a darker version of that color.

To adjust the pastel building, your simplest option is to find the "Adjust Hue/Saturation" option, then bump the saturation up by about 50%. Make sure you do this in a file/layer with JUST the building you want to change, or else you'll end up saturating all the things, and that won't fix anything. (And may cause major eye pain from stabby colors XD )

Depends: how willing are you to noodle around in an image editor?

The Screenshot Topic Returns

Along with the lack of outlines, there's a big clash in color between the soft pastels of the right building and the brighter colors in the other objects. To me, the lack of outline is less clashy than the color palettes.

Your Game and Music

It is vitally important to my game that the music changes with each step the character takes.

Many people chose squares next to yours before you chose yours. In the future you should probably wait until they have posted their work before starting your own.

Sorry; there wasn't anything in the rules about it, so I assumed it'd be OK.
