Struggles Of My First Game For The 2011RMN Contest

This looks really nice.

RMN4 incoming

/me has seen rmn4.

If you're interested in your rm stuff looking like it's part of a serious game development site then I think you're gonna like the new layout and functionality.

I mean, rmn is already the coolest rm website out there based both on its userbase and its already existing functionality that you won't find anywhere else in the online rm community but RMN4 looks and feels almost like a full-blown online publication (if that makes any sense?). I think you'd be (even more) proud to have your work showcased on rmn when you see what it's like.

That wasn't the real rmn4. It was a joke page they set up to see if people would praise garbage to suck up to them.

Superhero Movies

The last Batman movie was good and I'll watch the next but all of these movies are reusing the same characters that have been used a million times before. There are so many awesome comic books right now that are highly original and deserve to be a movie more. It's fine to do the classics but so many just don't do justice to them. Plus, once it is done right, you don't have to remake it in a shitty way.

The idealization of Superheroes is really in the forefront of our culture now right. Look at all the new movies about average people being "superheroes": Rainn Wilson/Ellen Page as the Crimson Bolt/Boltie in "Super", Aaron Johnson as "Kick-Ass". I just watched a documentary this summer about people who dress up like to fight crime.

What makes games "fun"?

I hated ffx's cloister of trials puzzles. They took a lot away from the game for me.

Tomoaky has a side scroller battle system. New over at vx just translated it if you're looking for one.

I don't like action in non-mmo rpgs.

The Customer Is Always Right - Perception Of Designer & Player "Responsibilities" In Amateur & Commercial Video Games

When I thank a maker after playing a game, it's not for "providing me with a free game", it's for what is given from the maker to me through the game.

semantics.

The Customer Is Always Right - Perception Of Designer & Player "Responsibilities" In Amateur & Commercial Video Games

author=Max McGee
I always thought it was a privilege to have a free game to play and even if it was a piece of crap you should be grateful that someone actually made a whole entire game for you to play for free.

I like this statement. I reviewed 5 games about a week ago and I thanked the maker at the end of each review for providing me the player with a free game - including the one I gave only 2 stars.

Attention all Nerds: Text Based Adventure!

LockeZ
You attack the knight with your flaming sword (3-1h+1e) and the attack lands on the enemy's armor! (6-2-1b+2+1d) However, the blow crashes through his defenses and pierces his (5) chest! The knight falls to the ground, spits some blood, and dies as he collapses forward onto the wound.

Remington charges down the crossbowman and bites at the man! (6) Remington grabs the crossbowman's throat and tears the man's jugular! He stumbles around clawing at his throat but is mortally wounded and quickly fades out of consciousness from the loss of blood!

Cadeon
You swing your great axe at soldier D and (5-1-1h+1e) and connect with a violent blow to the soldier's (5) chest! The attack (5-1-1-1b+4d) splits his trunk from the shoulder! He dies immediately.

RabitZ
With the knight already dead, you turn and attack the approaching soldier E with your morning star. The whirling ball of spikes (5) hits the enemy squarely on the (1) hand! The blow (6-1b+2d) breaks the bones in his hand into tiny pieces! The soldier is unable to wield the spear with both hands but will continue to attack with the other hand. The soldier is in excruciating pain and will suffer a -1 penalty to all stats the next round. You take a moment to check on your pig and see that it is sniffing at the ground but unharmed.

Ferdinand

With soldier D dead, you turn to soldier E. You fire a shot with your arrow and (2+1+1e-1h) barely graze his (4) abdomen! The attack (4-2+1-1b+2d) slices through the meat of his stomach! He stumbles backwards grabbing at his midsection. He will suffer another -1 penalty next round and will be unable to counter or attack for 1 turn.

Idida
You check the moat for some leeches (6) and find leeches, a clay that will make a good paste, and wild herbs! You pack the wound with them! Your wound is successfully treated and will no longer trouble you. However, you will not regrow the arm anytime soon. You will have to learn to live with one arm. But on the bright side, at least you won't die from it.

Slavechild stands guarding you while his dog attacks soldier E. The attack (1+2p+1e) works as the dog bites the soldiers (6) throat! The attack (2+1+1d+2p) severs the blood vessels and crushes the man's windpipe. His last few moments are horrific as he crawls along the ground grabbing his throat. He dies quickly but not painlessly.

Soldier F attacks (6) Slavechild (1-1h+2e) but misses!

Suddenly 3 archers appear above the wooden battlements! They join in firing a volley of arrows at soldier F. (3+1, 4+1, 1+1) Two of the arrows graze the soldier on the (1) hand and (5) chest! The first hits his hand (2-1+1) but does little damage! The second hits his chest (6-1+1) and pierces his rib cage! The arrow enters the lung and exits through his back! He cannot breath. He looks like he is drowning as he gasps for air. His lips turn purple as he falls to his knees and expires.

Congratulations! You have successfully lifted the siege from the Northern side of the fort!

LockeZ went on to terrorize villages throughout the country with his flaming sword and disregard for human life. Even though they didn't love him, they feared him and to LockeZ well, that was good enough.

Cadeon got his knighthood. He and Remington traveled the country helping people, getting into adventures. His fame spread and he became a folk legend.

RabitZ and his famous pig also toured the country. Everywhere they went, the people come out to see the newly knighted hero and his famous "squire".

Ferdinand searched for days for someone able to help his chickens. Eventually he found a strange woman living in the forest. She (2) promised to heal them but ate them instead.

Idida and Slavechild settled down and bought a nice little bed and breakfast together. Idida had a tough time doing some daily living things with his missing arm but Slavechild was happy to help him.

I probably should have made this battle a little more difficult. Still, the enemies did manage to take out a couple people and limbs along the way. I also thought about continuing the game beyond this battle but I have a lot less free time (work) and writing the results takes forever. Anyway, thanks for participating, hope you had fun!

Hey Buddy, Whip It Out. Let's Compare Swords.

lol, nevermind.
