author=CorfaisusThat's some amazing stuff you did with the RTP. You and Kentona are the masters of it.It's getting there; after many a revision (at least three), it's getting there. I swear, it went castle - thin castle - temple, and now I think I've got the groundwork for something solid.
author=BlindmindUnfortunately, with the size of my characters, I am stuck with REFMAP but that is a great tutorial.author=XenomicXenomic: Although I can see you're probably going for realism with that map, the intention doesn't always translate into a pleasing aesthetic look. Especially considering you're choosing (very) overused Rm2k3 REFMAP tiles, the end result comes off a bit bland--at least in terms of a screenshot topic. If the emptiness fulfills a certain function in your game, then by all means disregard the criticism here. But consider that in a topic like this, people are going to access your work on a purely visual basis. No one's trying to personally attack you.
Some touch-ups on this map...
While my mapping style is hardly the gold standard, here's a tutorial I wrote a couple years ago about interior map design for houses/dungeons. Maybe you'll find it helpful.
And here's another random one:

author=0range00author=LockeZha! true.. I wasn't aware of the measures used for battlebacks in VX ACE before making the background. I had some trouble fitting it properly so...eh, that was the result. I figured I could get away with it :P
They're not really standing on the ground...
But it started bothering me more now that you mentioned it and I tried to fix it with some dodgy photoshopping:

Dodgy? It works great!

SpellcraftQuill, I love the old-school vibe your game gives! Although your maps look a bit empty.. especially that town shot. Maybe you could spice them up a bit?
Anyways, here's a shot from the game I tried to get into that 10 grand competition. Nowhere near complete :( That's okay though as I got more n more ideas for this project and it would have felt very barebones if I released it with my original plans.
Thanks for the suggestion. I only changed up the town some as I need the empty space in the inn for a scene. The hardest map in the intro was Renier doing Assassin's Creed style stunts by jumping rooftops. I'm glad you notice the old-school style but it's just RM2K's REFMAP chipsets and Romancing Saga 2 character edits. I've never seen those sprites ripped.

I'm not sure if I should be nervous or not, but I appreciate it! I don't have many areas yet so I won't have much for the required screenshots.

author=UPRCBP II's Auslen isn't full of liars and random encounters is it? I'm impressed at how you recreated it.
I love being able to work with better tiles. Auslen in Blackmoon Prophecy (left) and Blackmoon Prophecy II (right). Two of the top buildings are not shops, I just haven't gotten around to changing their signs.
I've got something to show as well that is not as focused on mapping as it is on some minor event systems that may remind one of Bioware or Telltale games.

Here I present options for Dialogue. Choices in blue are

Sometimes, you will get options outside of the purple choices.

An example of what could happen with a purple choice. Renier inspects his bounty.

Of course, some choices just don't matter in the long run even though if you've been silent the entire time, Renier will get called out on it if you continue not to speak.

You will even be able to improve or damage your relationships with your allies depending on your actions. Playing with the box will not be a good idea with your first ally who has the second worst defense stat. Renier is not a cat.

Hitting the SHIFT key when you are stuck or do not know what to do will let Renier remind himself of his task or converse with his allies on what to do next. Story progress is determined by a variable that changes for every time a task is completed. If he's been silent, these may be the only times Renier may speak when he has no comrades.
(Also as an aside, I may change the layout of the ship since I based it off a Material Quest ship but I changed around the upper layers. Ships are hard to map, RTP, REFMAP, or not.)

Here is a "favorite" item of mine, the Tome of Secrets. I say favorite since this is the closest to a CMS I will get. I'm more concerned with gameplay and story than anything else so I will not be using special graphics for this item. Renier's Tome of Secrets allows him the chance to view his standings with his allies or his. The bottom choice allows for cheat codes.
...
I'm not telling you any!
JoeSeraph, if you're on this page, thanks for the System/Windowskin.
