Hi! Thank you for peeping at my profile.
I like making modern-themed games. My first game, Onyx, was made in 2006, when I was a senior in high school. So it's pretty ROUGH, but people seem to like it? Total Chaos is my personal favorite, but it has some, erm, issues, too. Mystery Man Zero is coming you guys, I haven't forgotten about it. A full-game will come out even if it takes 10 years. Oh gosh, I hope it doesn't take that long, but you get what I'm saying, right?
Right now, I am also working on A Nightmare in Sunnydale, a horror genre mesh-up fangame, if you will. I also like playing games. Actually, playing RPGM games is legit one of my favorite pastimes. *insert smiley here*
When I can fit it in, I do a little bit of Gatekeeper as well, a sci-fi fantasy about a team of god-lite forces, Gatekeepers, who have to protect the dying Earth from forces they don't even know about.
If thou think they can take it, download some of my stuff!

Ways to improve the community/maintain its awesomeness.
In my later stuff, I started making the normal equipment boast speed (not including accessories, of course). That my was attempt to remedy the situation. I'd like to think I succeed...but of course I'm in no position to answer that objectively. =P

There's a particular rain cloud on the forum that I heart hating, because its a rain cloud. However, I don't voice my hate, but I dread seeing when the user has posted.
I have a similar mindset you do, although we may or may not be thinking about the same poster.
I think the OP is quite good. I normally devote a lot of time to my own projects/projects that I enjoy playing, but I try to make up for it by helping out in any small way that I can (should the opportunity arises), and by

People were overwhelmingly supportive of Hitler too before he started subjugating Europe and killing Jews
Now you're doing way too much. *insert laughing smiley*
when a game gets featured, more people will play it, and thus there will be more people to dislike it
seems perfectly reasonable that people would start hating on it pretty much instantly upon getting featured
The game had 1800 downloads prior to getting featured. If it was really that awful, more people would have spoke out about it.

how would you know
also it's easy to tell how unfunny it is just by checking a few of the screens and no one has said this game has anything going for it but humour afaik so...
Because the hate began literally instantly, and it was a stark contrast to the response it was getting before.
And as far as the screenshots go -- again, different strokes, different folks.
What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Don't get me wrong. I love Star Ocean 2. But it is really, really bad.
SO2 didn't age all that great, but I still love it. The dialogue was weak (could've been the translation), but everything else was good/decent I thought (lol @ the voice acting, though).

yeah so many people enjoyed it that's why there is an overwhelmingly negative response and dozens of topic pages across the forum discussing how poor a decision it was to feature it
There are some things you have to take into consideration.
- People will complain simply for the sport of it
- People won't like everything
- The venom is coming from people who have never played this, thus their criticisms are not entirely valid.

First impressions are quite strong, you'd be surprised. It isn't because you would browse around most of them actually will. You want to sell the website, to show what it's worth, and if the featured game doesn't look interesting to them, then they'll just look elsewhere as they will think this is the standard of quality the site has.
And I get that. But do you really think this website will NEVERGETANOTHERVISITOREVERAGAINEVER because this game is featured?? Never mind the fact that there may be people who'd really enjoy this project.
If he has to skip it if he disagrees then why exactly have you even posted it?
Because if you're simply going to respond to a post with "lol stop trolling", then why waste your time? Especially if you aren't willing to expand on that?
Also, I wanted to come to this game's defense a bit because I feel the hostility is unwarranted

why would the staff of a user content contribution web site feature material that is not representative of the userbase's best and brightest? it is FEATURED. that means 'we as an institution are recognizing the exceptional work done by this particular creator and feel it is of sufficient importance and quality that it can represent the site as our flagship title for the next x period of time'. why should a new visitor NOT take that as an indication of the standards and expectations held by the community?
Generally speaking, games get featured (here and elsewhere) because they have a certainly quality and/or feature that the webmasters felt deserved recognition. Some games get featured because they are 100% custom, coded from scratch, or what have you. In this game's case, it was the writing that the webmasters here felt deserved to be show cased. Keep in mind, that everyone is entertained by different things. Just because something doesn't suit your particular tastes, does not mean it's bad.
It's not as if this game was pulled from obscurity as some kind of cruel joke. It had great reviews from staff, had received recognition in the past, and those who did play it prior to 12/1/2010, really did enjoy it.

You are either quite dense or just enjoy pretending to be so.
Don't consider your experiences to be a rule and not the exception, this is advertising 101 we are speaking about here..
Cute response.
Like I said before, I don't think people are going to run for the hills because this game is featured, especially since they have the option to see the previous featured games and will learn for themselves that this website has had a varied selection of featured games of several different genres, platforms, etc (thus dispelling the notion that only games of "this type" get featured).
This is really hard to read with a straight face. please don't troll us yeaster.
Sorry bud, I just don't do the whole bandwagon-hopping thing. I had an option and I voiced it. If you do not agree, skip it.

I definitely do understand where you all are coming from though, in terms of wanting only the "cream of the crop" featured (looks don't make a game but that's another discussion =P).
However, I do believe that most people who are looking for games to play, just want to find something they think think looks fun/interesting and (most importantly!) is free. I don't think anyone ventures through this site or other freeware sites looking for the next FF13. That could be pure delusion on my part, but I digress.
