Language in Games

my game is light hearted and cartoonish in nature

yet many of the characters swear like sailors in it, which seems to conflict with my intentions (thought now that I think about it it creates an interesting contradiction that I may want to cultivate)

I guess I just don't give a damn about swears, I will ceratinly warn the player on the game page that I did not censor myself during the writing process and that I have a very foul mind, so proceed with caution if you are sensitive when it comes to language

(I use everything from fuck downward in the game's opening cutscene alone, the surprising thing is, again, its not an edgy game at all, its a whimsical fantasy, but its meant to be a humorous game as well so I think it'll work wonderfully.)

oh, and this is the Allinlia project BTW, game page for it will be coming up soon

Release Something! Day VIII: Journey of the Cursed King [Sign ups]

All I'll have to offer is a game page and a demo of my game's opening cutscene, but hey, its somthing so sign me up too I guess

Anybody need any music?

I definately need a game over tune (somthing for a light and cartoony game, nothing too dark or serious)

a very fast paced and upbeat ending credits theme I could also use, but I have a fall back for that, I don't for the game over.

I've been hoping to add some composer made tracks to my game so this would be great

More stress should be put on custom graphics

As someone who often plays games with the sounds and music turned off, yes, the games are still very enjoyable. (They aren't the "same" because, well, somethings changed. But the GAME is the same because the sound effects and music are not critical to gameplay)

The importance of music, graphics and sound in a game is GREATLY overrated. Does chess get any more fun if you are using intricately carved marble game pieces on a gold and silver board? The only bullshit I see spouting here is how awesome window dressing can make a game great. I'm tired of that. Sounds and graphics need only provide adequate sensory input to navigate and interpret the game world, allowing for the players to employ the rules of the game within the scope of its game mechanics. You know, playing the game. Or gameplay.

yay semantics.

I agree 100%, and this is coming from someone who fanices himself a mapping specialist

if the gameplay is good, then people will enjoy a game as long as the window dressing isn't glaringly bad

folks appreciate custom grphics/music/and well put togather mapping but its gameplay that will be the difference between a game they love and a game they hate, everytime.

yes, even story isn't as important, Craze and Kentona prove with each game they make that even a very simple story is enough if the gameplay is solid

More stress should be put on custom graphics

Not everyone is a spriter ya know

SHOW ME YOUR SCREENSHOTS - Fall Edition

Such praise! It really inspires me to make even better maps later on in the game

I don't think anyone will be able to see in that hall with those candles set up the way they are. :(

yes they are completely impractical, but at least they look nice :P

SHOW ME YOUR SCREENSHOTS - Fall Edition

My game finally has a screenshot to show for itself

Making Weather

I'd search around for some custom animations but I don't think there are any, animations are a resource that doesn't get widely posted on the talented people's websites, unfortunately.

Making Weather

my guess would be to play an animation using a parallel process event but I don't know how'd that would look, and it'd probably cause a lot of lag if you have a bunch of other events on the map

and there aren't any feather or sandstorm animation that I know of

Chrono Trigger Review

the game was bad, but it was damn funny (the wirting especially) and used unique graphics as well as some unexpected uses of eventing and was a pretty clever parody of nooby RM projects

the thing is that this is really a 2 star game, which ironically is what the silly joke review and the angry bash-o-ramas combined to produce

maybe my take on this is colored a certain way because I honestly did like it, but my feeling is that if those reviews are what you really felt about this game then why bother writing up a review in the first place, especially if you know that the creator was basically messing with us?

the reviews just strike me as being terribly petty is all, for the mere reason that they exist in the first place, not that I think anyone can't honestly hate this game that much
