Don't let their conservative rhetoric fool you, most of the Southern Republicans represent districts that depend on auto manufacturing -- just not American manufacturers. Toyota, Honda, etc have opened several factories all across the South, where there is hardly any union presence and they know how to throw lobbying money around. The Senators block the auto bailout because they know their constituents back home are bought and sold by foreigners and any cash infusion from the auto bailout helps domestic manufacturing at the expense of the foreign competition.
There are numerous issues at play here.
and here I thought they just did it because they were mad that they lost the election

Being the first black president is a little bigger than what some of you give credit for.
this is true, but white people born after the civil rights movement basically don't understand the significance and see him as just another president
I'm in that group, and I also can't understand why it is a big deal (to me he's just that guy I voted for) but I understand the reason why it is not a big deal to me and that to alot of people, it is a very big deal
personally I can;t think of anyone I'd rather have as opresident while we face these challenges, it'll be hard to fix the economy, especially if the southern republican senators keep blocking the auto bailout because they are more interested in the short sighted goal of destroying the worker's unions (the biggest and most organized block of democratic party supporters) then keeping the Michigan region from turning into an industrial ghost town, along with all our manufactoring, and with it the economy, not to mention the loss of millions of jobs
as well as spineless, lazy, democratic senators who run in fear of a filibuster threat
(lol I sure am sore ain't I?)
anyway, if Obama can't fix the economy, then no one can. That's just the feeling I have, of course, I am confident that with drastic economic policy changes, things will get fixed. The only question is can Obama get control over the democratic majority and if the republicans don't try to block everything out of spite
Barack Obama Day
its the result of Reaganomics, so yeah your right
it'll take a complete overhaul of our economy to fix it
we need to start actually manufactoring stuff again, which is why I'm so discouraged that congress is dragging thier feet on the auto maker bailout

This statement always amusing to someone outside of the US. :) (For the record, Obama's social stance is pretty damn conservative. But then, the US only has two political party types: ultra-convervatives (Republicans) and conservatives (Democrats))
this is why I lol'd when I first heard the charge that Obama was a socialist
I was like, a socialist?! Look at Europe! Look at Canada!
