The problem has nothing to do with windows 8, link. I have windows 7. If you need to know more about my computer, ask. Have RTP also btw.

Or, you know, you could provide a bit more information so that we won't have to ask. You're the one trying to get help, it's up to you to give us as much information as you can so we don't have to assume anything.

I have both Windows 7 and 8 and all the makers from 2K through Ace work fine on them. If you have the RTP installed, then the only thing I can assume (again without any further info) is it's a drive or setting on your computer.

Has this always been a problem, or most recently? If it's a recent occurrence, have you tried rebooting?

Edit: There's another person having other problems with using 2K/3. Not sure if this will help, but you could always try LockeZ's suggestion to see if it helps. The link to the topic is:

No, I do realize that a lot of people are having problems with running 2K3 games on Windows 8, I'm just not entirely sure why, since just as many people don't.

Then again, I wonder if the same people who keep having problems also have the RTP. When I used to play 2K3 games on a computer that 2K3 wasn't installed on, I came across a ton of games that wouldn't play or play right until I installed the RTP.

R.I.P. RPG Revolution

It did go back to the "maintenance" message for a brief while, but it's now back to the Active Pro thing again.

I don't expect it will come back, but whoever owns the domain probably isn't sure what to do with it. Even if by some amount of sheer luck and unexpected stupidity it does come back, I can't imagine people flocking back to it after it's been down for so long, at least not without a major overhaul, the least of which would be for it to be under a new owner that's not related to iEntry.

Looking for games..

Wow, did you really go back so far to post a one-line comment in a topic that's been dead for 3+ years?

Breaking the fourth wall: fun or not?

Dammit! I hit the submit button twice by mistake.

Breaking the fourth wall: fun or not?

Personally, I think it works better with fun, quirky games (light hearted in theme) than it would for something that's much more serious and dark.

So games like Super Mario RPG, Pokemon, and maybe even a Chocobo or Moggle spin-off to the Final Fantasy games, I could see it working. Even games like Chrono Trigger (while dark at times) could work.

But games like Xenogears, Final Fantasy, survival horror-styled games - I don't know. I approach these games expecting darker or more mature subject matters that to be thrown out of the game's reality would ruin the immersion.

RTP style game with Chiptune or MIDI music

Consistency is the primary key. While graphics and audio work together, they're also separate components. Just avoid mixing 8-bit music with higher quality tracks.

As an FYI, the RTP for XP and up is 32-bit, I believe. If you want something that feels a bit more 16-bit, I'd either go with an older maker (2K or 2K3) or opt for a more eye-friendly pack like Mack or the DS and DS+ packs. While DS/DS+ is not true 16-bit (as far as I'm aware), the style used seems to cater more towards the SNES look than the Ace RTP.

Regardless of what you use, though, the only real way of knowing if it works is by trying it out. I'd lie if I said I hadn't thought of this myself at one time or another.

I think the reasoning behind this is 8-bit music still feels so much better than a lot of current melodies. I'd die a happy camper if somebody ever converted the Ace audio RTP into true 8-bit chiptune.

Why would Windows 8 have anything to do with it? I'm using Windows 8 and have had no problems installing 2K/3 and playing 2K/3 games in full screen.

I do think it's related to the OP's computer, whatever the problem may be, but not convinced it's related to a specific OS.

Development Progress!

That's what I thought about Blackmoon Prophecy for the longest time. One can hope... and dream.

Development Progress!

Great news! I remember playing the demo for this one and really enjoying it, and I'm sure new users to RM2K3 will want the chance to see this through as well.
