Ratings On Screenshots

I see that everyone has strong points. I'd like to show a summary of the ideas from what I understood so far:

Ideas/Problems:

* Rating system on all Videos/Artwork/Audio and media in general.
* Marking screenshot as needing additional feedback exists but not everyone knows about it.
* Bringing back the Random Image category (exists in the images page but the website makes it confusing).
* Dyhalto's suggestion of a series of random screenshots instead of a single one on the front page.
* Like system could be invisible and only the developer could see it
* The ScreenShot Survival XX thread shows that not only it's dificult to have feedback but also, because of the way the forum works (the way it is programmed), people avoid making feedback of old pictures, making a bunch of pictures too hard to find.
* There needs to be more interaction on the game pages.

So far the main issue is that having a score/like/emotion system for media could be bad since that would make certain games to appear much more than others, that and possibly create more unnecessary workload for the server in some way. From what IF and others said, one approach to solve that would possibly be something like an invisible like, where only the developer/owner of the image would be able to see the likes or the number of likes, which in my opinion doesn't sound bad. That might solve the problem of some of the users who want to give quicker responses. It's not as good as a comment but definitely more people would give their opinions that way. People may have lots of reasons not to comment. Like bad engrish for example (Like mine hahaha). Also, that would most certainly not remove the possibility to comment, it would be just an alternative to show what one thinks about the game.

There are certain pages in RMN almost no one seems to know that exist, like those Marrend mentioned. Perhaps RMN is like a dungeon crawler, you must go deep to find all of its secret pages (Actually, a dungeon crawler game in the website is not a bad idea at all). Jokes aside, perhaps there is a way to make it a bit less confusing.

The Screenshots Survival thread, or any big image thread for that matter, makes it difficult to receive feedback, making it only useful to receive a small amount of feedbacks in a short period of time. Although some people might like it the way it is, perhaps the invisible like/emotion system could work here.

I think one of things that might help finding the games would be an image searching by its game criteria, and adding to it the possibility to sort it randomly. For example the VNDB website does this, in the front page it shows 4 pictures from random distinct games. And at the bottom of the page there is a random phrase said by a character from a random game. Perhaps something like that could be made. That way you could search for images from games who are e.g. ARPGs in RM2k3 in random order. Since the images page is hard to find you could add a link to this kind of search in the games search page.

Ohhh by the way, if the RMN's programmer(s) could add a little bit more of AJAX and asynchronous requests to make the website more fluid, that would be great. ;)

... Just kidding, I know it's a lot of work actually.

I believe I should reintroduce myself.

hi

Hello.

I believe I should reintroduce myself.

author=kentona
...

welcome!

Of course... ;)

And thank you Mr. kentona. :)

RPG MAKER 95

Well, about the bugs in RM95 I don't know what can be done, but this engine certainly has a charm of its own.

It always intrigued me how RM95 was the only rpgmaker with native mouse support. The art used for the characters and scenarios was very distinct from the others. If you asked me, I would say it remains an unique engine to this day even with its own quirks.

From my perspective, I could count on my fingers the amount of games I played in RM95, but all of them were incredible in their own way. Games like Baldy's Big Day, LockeZ's Double Trouble, School of the Dead and others.

So yea, if you are going to use it in your games it will make them very distinguished from the others.
Good luck in making your games, I'm sure people will be amazed by it. :)

I believe I should reintroduce myself.

Yeah scouring non-english games on youtube and stuff is kind of interesting. We def overtime tailored ourselves more towards keeping our rips and art a lot more consistent. I really liked The Way in how it just didn't care that it was combining Bryce prerenders with breath of fire 2 interiors half the time. It is something that really justifies the somewhat illegal or bootleggy nature of the RPGmaking scene.

But yeah welcome.

Indeed Darken, most of the games I saw in RPGMaker (at least the most old ones) had in some way infringed copyrights, but as time passed I guess people started to get more conscious about that and made more games with their own resources. But I totally agree, in the artistic perspective they are certainly justified.
... So yea, thank you :)

I seem to recall making a suggestion in the staff forums of granting some of the people in the request games thread an achievement for all the awesome work they are doing. I'm almost sure the name "anyon175" was one of the names I had suggested, too. I don't recall when this was, mind, but, stuff just seems to be piling up. ;_;

At any rate, welcome back!

... Really? O_o
I didn't even know about those achievements actually. Hahaha :)
But yea, thank you Marrend, I don't know if I deserve these or not, but I'll gladly help uploading those games if I can. Too bad so many of them have already been lost. =/

I don’t normally post in the introduction thread and I’m kind of swamped with stuff at the moment, (still working on the archive thread as well), so I’m gonna try and keep this short. But I just wanted to come in and say “Hi!”

anyon175 is a really cool guy. Guys, please treat him kindly.

I think the coolest part about being apart of RMN has always been, meeting people from all over the world, from all different walks of life – It’s sort of an opportunity you’d never really get a chance to have otherwise.

Thank you for your kind words LordBlueRouge. :)
I feel the same way, there are so many games everywhere with different cultures, different thoughts and ideas. My only wish would be that we could bring them all in one place and started to talk about them. Perhaps RMN is that place.

author=LordBlueRouge
So, I’ll never forget when I was randomly searching French, German and Spanish rpgmaker communities I suddenly came across this video for O Calice Sagrado (an rpgmaker2000 game I think)

It was so incredibly different from the games I was use to seeing on RMN, it literally blew my mind! It was a lot like one of the rpgmaker games you’d use to see on GamingW back in 2007 that was just oozing with creativity .

And it turns out, this game was actually from the Brazilian rpgmaker community! So yeah, I’m just like, so happy and super stoked ❤ we finally got someone from the Brazilian rpgmaker community on RMN!

It’s moments like these where you realize, that we really should be reaching out to other rpgmaker communities in order to see what else is out there and form bonds in order to grow - we often may not speak the same language, but we do share the same interest, which is rpgmaker games.

...Wow, indeed, Calice Sagrado is a beautiful brazilian game... There are other famous (if you can call them that) brazilian games, like The Drake Legend, Vila do Nevoeiro, Robercleiton TURBO and others.
I have been thinking on doing an International games (or perhaps a better name would be 'non-english rpgmaker games') thread, where people could show Let's Plays or game translations for games like these made in other countries. But perhaps I might need permission for that, I don't know.

I hope I'm not going too much off-topic with this, but I have some screen shots already for some of those brazilian games.

                                                               The Drake Legend: The River of the Dragons

                                                               Las Aventurietas del Robercleiton TURBO

                                                                                     School of the Dead

                                                                                     O Segredo do Espirito

I even played two italian RPGMaker games and one who was french that I would certainly like to talk about (I believe their names were respectively Fifth Era, Theory of the Order and Velsarbor).

Anyways, language might be the greatest barrier but it's definetly worth to give those gems (and others) a shot.

author=LordBlueRouge
But yeah, I’m just like super glad that you’re taking part in our community! and hopefully we’ll get to learn more about the Brazilian rpgmaker communities and their games as well!
...
EDIT: thanks again for the update on the archive list by the way; I’ll have to sort through it, but you’ve already found a lot of games that have been missing that I look forward to playing again – like the fourth demo for Name73

Happy to have you here anyon175! Welcome to RMN!

Thank you LordBlueRouge. :)
I'm glad to be part of the community aswell. I just wanna help that rare games thread in anyway I can.

It’s a really exciting time to be working with rpgmaker2000/2003.

Indeed, there are already some brazilian games that used the DestinyScript for RM2k for example. The game I'm trying to make right now is using Renpy and RM2k + DestinyScript to communicate between the two windows. Right now it's just a crazy idea though, I don't even know if I'm doing it the way I originally intended anymore. Hahaha :)

I believe I should reintroduce myself.

Welcome back to RMN! :D

Thank you. :)

I believe I should reintroduce myself.

Hello guys, my name is anyon175 and I'm a brazilian RPGMaker fan since... Well, a bunch of years.

I joined RMN way back in 2013 in believe, but I wasn't that much active at that time. But once in a while I always checked it out for news in the community.
I came back to see if I can make some cool games and do whatever I can to contribute to the community.

My skills are mostly programming, networking (in the computer network sense) and a little bit of cybersecurity. I'm most familiar with the old RPGMaker engines (RM95, RM2k, RM2k3), Unity and Renpy.
Most of the rpgmaker games I played were from old the RPGMaker communities, like A Blurred Line, Legion Saga, Ara Fell, Kindred Saga, Demon Legacy, Three the Hard Way, and other famous titles like these.

My most recent game, if you can call it that, is a game called Dual-Wielded, where I (try to) use 2 game engines at the same time to tell a story while you play in the other window... I think that's basically it.

TL;DR, my name's anyon175, nice to meet you guys. :)

I would love to see what’s on these discs!!! ❤

I guess, the easiest thing to do right now would be to sort through the discs for rpgmaker games.(…I’m actually very curious about the other games as well, but whatever is easier for you to upload right now, anyon175):

Indeed, if I have the chance I may even upload the discs themselves since the company, Digerati, has been dead for years.
Okay, so first sorry for taking so long, I had a lot of work to do from my University here in Brazil and that took a while to get done.

I sorted out the games now, so I'll be posting below the games by CD, each with a RM2k/RM2k3/RM95 tag at the end of its name, and I also added a tag Brazilian/Italian/German for the games that aren't in english.

What else... Well, like I had said, I started searching for RPGMaker games in old forums and from old backups and I found some old games that I had downloaded from the old segnin thread I believe... Some may have been from iishenron's Queens Court though.
Well, I don't know if those are actually still missing or have been recovered but I made a list from the directory contents so that you guys could sort it out and see what is missing or not.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

author=LordBlueRouge
Top Games Especial was a Brazil Video Game Magazine Publication:

Like many Computer Gaming Magazines of the early 2000 they would often offer demo discs available for download to go along with their magazines.

Indeed... I happen to have some of these old discs in my possession. The magazines however have been (mostly) lost. Quite surprising to see it over here at RMN.

...Oh and the link with the games you mentioned is not actually from the same disc in the photo. It's from a different disc with 70 games that came some years later.

Here are the discs that I have in ascending chronological order:

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

author=LordBlueRouge
It won't take awhile though actually, Converting rpgmaker games that rely on RTP - to standalone rpgmaker games is very quick and easy to do in most cases:
...
Like, there's only two or three games that I know of that have this problem right now, so it'll be very easy to do, But my question is:
...
I was able to fix them and get them running without RTP yesterday, so they're playable now and ready to be added - …but there are probably some people out there who prefer to not have these RTP files included, incase there's an issue down the road.

So yeah. that's why I'm asking.

Like, SegNin was known to take pieces from several different games to create a standalone working version - but I just want to know if this is still cool with everyone before going ahead with it.

I see... I aprove the idea, I believe the benefits of playing without the RTPe for people without the package are greater than making then download them. Perhaps we should do it before adding the games to the torrent after all.

You made some really cool suggestions here anyon175, ❤ - rpgmaker already has a wikia actually, but unfortunately it's been abandoned for quite sometime - but I would love something like VNDB for rpgmaker games. - but I'll have to touch upon this at a later time.

Thank you. :)
Indeed... Could you imagine a RMDB?
Endless RM games, from all around the world, available at one site... :D
