I have a question for the girls: do you prefer thin men, or fuller-framed men? I have read that your answer will depend on the time of the month. Is this true?

I think this is more of an age thing, actually. When I was a teen, I was really into the tall lanky guys. You know, no one under 6-foot, 29-inch waist. Scarecrows.

I feel like I've outgrown that "look," because I no longer find it attractive. Maybe because I associate that physique with "boys," because I only ever dated "boys" with that frame. Now that I'm of the age that I'm looking for a real life actual man, I prefer sturdier looking fellows. I've never had any affinity toward muscular guys, so I don't mean that... for some reason, bulging muscles never really did it for me... I just mean shorter, broader guys, who look like adults and not like gangly teens.

In terms of height, he must be taller than me (which isn't really difficult since I'm a shrimp).
In terms of weight, he MUST NOT BE ABLE to fit into my pants!

You know one thing that me and my various friends of color has observed? Here it comes, don't be offended...

But white/Caucasian/whatever politically correct term girls are really getting curvier! In a race that was usually considered to have universal pancake asses, I'm seeing more and more white girls with curvier bodies, tight bottoms, shapely hips, and fuller breasts! What's going on here?

I have the biggest ass (proportionally) on anyone I'm acquainted with. I know it's pretty popular and all (my waist to butt ratio is RIDICULOUS) but I hate it. For one, it makes jeans impossible to shop for. Also, I just don't like being "fat-bottomed." :( I work my glutes a lot, too, but to no avail!

I used to be teased in school for having no butt, but that was pre-puberty, and the person doing the teasing was half-Jamaican. After puberty I got way more curvy, which is a trait common on my mother's side of the family. Her side of the family is part Seminole, though, so there's a good chance I am partially (VERY PARTIALLY) related to a black slave, since the Seminoles married/had children with a lot of runaway slaves.

Technically, Dragon Kingdoms IV does have a review. halibabica just needs to post his. But I do feel for the others.

Remember this?
Dragon Kingdoms IV

You'll have to forgive me if this sounds harsh, but this game needs a lot of work.

This game…is lacking in almost every area of its design. The graphics are mismatched and don't blend well at all. The mapping is flat and uninspiring, and several map errors allow you to walk on walls and water.

The characters aren't much better than stereotypes, and the dialogue doesn't sound natural at all. Couple this with fourth-wall breaking and RTP jokes, and it all starts coming off very weak.

The gameplay consists mostly of DBS enter-mashing. The monsters aren't even remotely difficult, although they might be tougher if you didn't find the AI controlled guard NPCs to join you.

The story is cliché and the intro is force-fed to you. The intro is also very long, opening with what seems more like a trailer for the game you're already playing.

The most impressive “feature” of the game is its day / night animations, which look nice when they're playing, but happen entirely too often. Every day and night seems to last less than five minutes, and the animations for them get tiresome in a hurry. The dialogue boxes announcing the time shift interrupt cut scenes and really disrupt the game's flow.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but this game is fundamentally flawed in multiple ways. VideoWizard, I would recommend that you take a step back and seriously look at what you've done so far. This game doesn't have to be terrible, and it can be improved, but you need to be able to see its weaknesses in order to fix them. There isn't a single area of this game that excels, and the whole thing feels really crappy. Take a good, long look, put your thinking cap on, and fix this mess one piece at a time. It might not be easy, but game making rarely is. Better luck next time!

Sorry about that, I just went through to all the game pages to see if they had published reviews or not.

Some games, like Forever Euphoria, have gotten a lot of FEEDBACK, but no published reviews...

Others, like Backstage II haven't even gotten any feedback other than what was said on the RMNCast...

Play Something! Day III [February 4th, 2009]

I noticed a lot of people are reviewing the same games over and over, which is strange, since so many of the RS!V entries HAVE NO REVIEWS. So guys, don't complain if your game only has one review. You could be one of these folks:

VideoWizard - Dragon Kingdoms IV
Liberty - Shining Destiny
halibabica - Pokemon Hunter 2
BlackWings - Perplexia
psy-wombats - Terra Nova: Eyes of the Machine
Max McGee - Backstage II
Orig - Forever Euphoria
Anaryu - Gravity
Neither of GreatRedSpirit's games
Deacon Batista - Miracle on RTP Street

(For easy reference, these are the RS!V entries that still have no posted reviews.)

Relations with The Gender of Your Preference

I assume one must walk the fine line between constantly saying "Ooh, I'm so fat, I'm so ugly," and saying "I'm so much better looking than you, you are a waste of my time."

Modesty + confidence is attractive. Anything on either end of the spectrum is ugly.

Fat People

What is "fat" for you guys? Like, do you consider someone who is 5'3" and 150 lbs fat? To clarify, this was my height and weight pre-diet, and while I didn't like the way I looked, I was still wearing size Medium. This was the weight ratio that was popular in the pinup girl era, and way before that, in the Romantic periods when voluptuous women were considered the MOST attractive, guys liked their girls even heavier. It was a sign of wealth and good breeding, indicating that a woman could bear a child well and came from good stock. Nowadays, some people look at Bettie Page and say "woah, she's so chunky!" instead of the way they used to, and say "She's Gorgeous."

So what is "fat" to you?

Some people will never be slender. Some people legitimately have large bones, large frames, and short heights (generally people of Nordic descent) who are naturally stocky. Some truly obese (I mean REALLY obese) people can't shake it. I know a girl who is incredibly large, but she tried everything - EVERYTHING - to lose weight. Diets, exercise, starvation, cigarettes, coke, everything short of surgery, and she just can't seem to lose the weight.

It isn't fair to look at someone and say that they aren't "trying" just because they can't lose the pounds.

Also, those who are overly skinny and those who are grossly overweight have the exact same health issues. Diabetes and heart problems come immediately to mind. While anorexics have bone density issues, which is something that obese people don't share.

So yes, Brandon, "fat" people are healthier IF YOU CONSIDER Bettie Page or Marylin Monroe to be "fat" (they are by today's standards). People with a healthy (not low or high) BMI are going to be in better shape than supermodels who starve themselves every day. (This excludes the type of people - I know a few - who eat like horses and are still size 0) If you aren't getting the nutrients and calories you need to survive, you are starving.

Kentona, nobody complained that Music and Sound were separated. How do you distinguish the triumph of a game like Backstage, with great sound design, versus an original soundtrack? This is really why I am pushing the issue because they are not the same thing even remotely.

I agree, and (on a more OCD note) if you separate music and sound, and take out "music + sound," then each of the "design" categories have five awards in them.

Allow myself to introduce...myself!

lol you cannot be serious

..."mayor anime"?

'fraid so, guy, known by that monicker very well in some circles, actually, especially the southern anime/gaming convention circuit. Named after a character I've played in a LARP, and the name stuck.

What LARP? Lol, sounds like a wacky/fun one.

Nice to see another LARPer on here. Happy trails, and hope to see your projects on the site soon.

Can Fangames Be Good?

I think fan-things can be good, but they just have a higher propensity for badness. People expect the fan-thing to live up to the original, but not only that, add something to the original so that it isn't just a clone.

In non-game terms, I once went to a bar to watch a friend play music. He is a little tone-deaf. He played an old song and it obviously sounded like a tone-deaf rendition of a famous song, and everyone knew when he screwed up. But when he played an original song, it was very good, because no matter what he did with it, that was the way it was meant to be played and sang.

I think original games are like that. If you do something different, that's the way you meant it (barring technical and personal issues with the game). But in fanworks, there's a higher pressure to get it right, and more people are expecting you to screw up.

Sounds like you love your dogs.

Looks like it too (The avatar :P)

Although I do love my dogs, my avatar is the arctic wolf pup form of a lady vampire. So not really a dog, lol.

Jesus Christ, that sounds absolutely terrible. That's not even normal, man.

well i've been checked up plenty of times and nothing has been found wrong with me that could be the cause of it so i just have to deal with it.

Do you mean the stomach flu, or Influenza?

Stomach Flu.

I had that, all through middle and high school. Everyone either thought I was bulimic or pregnant, it was really embarrassing! But when I hit college it just went away, except for this one time I had to go to the hospital.

Flu shots won't do anything for that. They are for Influenza.
