I haven't heard any arguments defending the alleged coolness of the name, lol.
Seriously, is there like a fanclub or something? Is there some deeper reason other than it's another way to spell "Slayed"? Now I truly am curious to find out what exactly attracts people to the name.
I like the name Slade. I think it's a better name than a lot of other names. This is possibly because of my positive connotations with it. You see, one of my favorite games has a main character with this name (as his surname), and I guess he does fit the dark and mysterious description... but honestly I hadn't seen another character like him, and he wasn't 'copied' off of any other Slades as I'm aware of, as he was one of the first.
It's like how I was remarking in high school how much I like "Pride and Prejudice," to which a boy responded that it was trite and overdone. Which, obviously, it couldn't be, because it spearheaded the genre, and all others came after it.
But I guess if you've played lots and lots of games and every one had a dark mysterious Slade in them, I can see how it would get rather tiring, and you would then equate "Slade" with a lack of creativity.
Also I never thought of Slade as "Slayed," but maybe I'm just slow on the uptake in that department.

Uh because not everyone is GAY? :P
Anyway...I randomly stumbled on this video and it made me think of this topic/debate.
It is almost certainly safe for work and should lighten the mood.

This song is from Avenue Q.
But as I'm probably the only theater dork here, I bet I'm the only one who cares about that.
Also, I sort of made a "0.o" face at Karsuman's av when I first saw it. But then again, I'm a girl, so I guess I'm entitled to make that kind of face.

I like your graphics. Using Flash for drawings is a good idea.
The Pityskulls look especially good.
I like the Ghasty Pitys the best. They's friggin adorable.
What are you thinking about right now?
My pal Ashley poured about 5 oz. of Bacardi 151 inside me tonight. I am thinking about the power of this beverage.
*Thumbs up for great first impressions.*
Also, with more relevancy, Income Tax is basically something I've always considered to be inescapable, unless (of course) you don't have an income. After all, it's generally common knowledge that Mr. Capone was caught by the IRS before the Feds for 'evading income tax.'
What is not common knowledge is the circumstances under which this took place. You see, Capone was running either numbers or rum (can't remember which,) and did not write the money he was recieving from these illegal actions off on his taxes. So IRS got him on this felony before law enforcement could. (Lawlz.)
So this means he got away with murder but not evading income tax. <3

Ruptured Souls - WINNER OF THE RMN HALLOWEEN CONTEST (new blog post!)
Going to give a formal review of this game (the first) though I worked on it myself.
This is a very intriguing idea for a game in this program, not an RPG at all but a puzzle game. It's easy to get involved in the ambiance of the piece and forget about certain elements (I won't give away hints to those who haven't played), which in turn makes the puzzles harder than they would be normally. I know I had to go through it a few times to do all the "right" actions, but the atmosphere (due to beautiful music and mapping) made re-doing the game enjoyable. I liked replaying the game to see the different death graphics, and also to discover which options were the "correct" ones.
The game also had something that many others do not, though I don't know if this is something good or bad - while I'm generally awful at most video games, and many times they leave me with a sense of being discouraged and humbled, I was more often proud of myself for getting the 'right' answer than frustrated by choosing a 'wrong' one. This gave me a sense of satisfaction while playing, despite all the myriad ways of dying in Ruptured Souls.
As for the mapping, while doing litemaps, I was impressed by how interesting the setting was even without context. I liked looking at them and figuring out what lights to give them. They were interesting to me from an artistic standpoint, and represented what they were made to represent very well.
Finally, the scare-factor. Though I am not one to be 'scared' by media (I was not even bothered by 'The Ring'), Ruptured Souls was unsettling. Though I was more surprised than 'scared' by the sudden jump-out-at-you moments, the mise-en-scene of the whole thing was unsettling, which to me, is a more valuable 'scare' aspect. It's easy to startle people by having a boogeyman (or in this case, a tentacle) jump out at someone, but it's more a work of finesse to leave someone feeling uneasy. Mr. Quick definitely made me feel this, but also the very important feeling of wanting to know more.
I'm very honored to be a part of this project and I earnestly hope you continue it, though I know you're a little swamped by your million other projects.
EDIT: Okay, so it's not very formal, but I wrote this under not the best of circumstances, so I apologize if it's rambling or gushing.

Your Game Designing Exprience

Oh yeah, wow, I didn't even get into this. Yeah, I've done just as much pen and paper game design as I have video/computer game design.
'S true.
As for me, I've not made anything (fully) of my own since middle school, but I'd like to get more into the craft. It's something that interests me, and is in my lineage (my mom and dad met when they were playing a tabletop my dad wrote).
In my early days, I loved making simple games in Q Basic (anyone else know that language?). That's about the only real experience I've got.

Y Hallo thar
Hey everyone,
I've been lurking here for a really long time. Now that I have finally done some work on an amateur game, I am posting.
I am Max's art dispenser robot, though if anyone else liked the litemaps I did for Ruptured Soul (plz play it), I would probably be willing to dispense art for you as well. Those were my first litemaps ever, but I think with time I will improve.
Anyway, I tend to be fairly bored, so I'll probably be a fairly active member of the forums. I promise not to be a spammer : )
