End The 2009 Misaos Do (Results Are In!)

I think what was meant by "honor system" here is that the rule wasn't enforced but it's generally polite to follow a rule/request even when there isn't anything stopping you from breaking it.

Do you live in Oregan or something?

Yeah I wish it was that easy here. You know, for being a "liberal state" we sure do have a lot of conservative influence in our state affairs...meh I blame Bill O'Reilly and his coalition of moronic opressive jackasses.

Seriously public smoking might just get banned.

Also on drugs. A lawyer has made a state law stating that second hand smoke is considered a weapon and therefore you can now sue someone for assault if they smoke around you and you inhale some smoke.

Like I said. I wish Oregon were that easy.

But as I recall, when I lived there, Meth was about as common as rainfall.

At least in Forest Grove/Hillsboro area. Maybe it's different where you're at.

Anyway, if you really need some reefer, you can just hit up Eugene, am I right?

I think the strongest argument for the legalization of many drugs is public safety!

Research of the alcohol prohibition eras in the US and Canada shows that prohibiting alcohol resulted in huge increases in violence and illegal trade. The mafia had a difficult time in the United States until the prohibition of alcohol, for example, which is believed to be solely responsible for the growth of the criminal organization that persists today.

All illegal drug use is, naturally, linked to illegal trade. How often does a college student look at the marijuana he is smoking and think about the drug cartel that probably produced it? Illegal trade necessitates violence, because there is no government body providing protection and a fair market for the product.

Kentona: Where did you get that martini recipe? That is the wrong ratio. Too dry! Also, a standard martini glass comfortably holds exactly 4 fluid ounces of liquid - four shots, or 3-4 drinks.

I am serious about martinis >:(

As a bartendrix I do know the correct answer to this one. A martini (the standard ones, not fruity) are always 2 oz of gin or vodka, with 3-5 dashes of vermouth in. Dry is 1-2 dashes. Extra dry is none.

Fun fact: it is CHEAPER to order an extra dry martini than it is to order two shots of vodka or gin. And you're getting served something identical.

Repetitive stuff!

Everyone needs to listen to "Nickelback Sucks." When you can put two of an artist's singles on top of each other and have them sound nigh identical, you've got yourself a repetitive band.

Alcohol and/or Drugs.

I am Scottish and German and I know how to bartend, and I love to mix (one of my favorite hobbies). However, I have a trememdous respect for/fear of alcohol and anyone who doesn't is walking a dangerous line.

Alcohol is a substance. It has more bad health side effects than weed. It has destroyed countless lives. My mom's mom was originally married to a drunk who beat her (my grandma) and her son (my half-uncle) every night. One day he came storming in raging drunk and my grandma refused to tell him where my uncle was. He started beating the shit out of her and she called the cops. They shot him and killed him that night.

So many people I know have been touched in a bad way by alcohol. And yes, I drink, and so does my boyfriend, despite the repeated instances of alcoholism in our families. But it's important to remember that alcohol is a poison, that's why it works, is because it does funky things to your body and deteriorates your liver and your brain.

Oh, and the fact that the withdrawal alone from alcohol addiction can kill you... It's only marginally less dangerous than "harder" drugs, if at all.

Obviously making this substance illegal is not the way to go. But I take issue with the fact that this substance, which kills people every day and totally destroys lives, is somehow seen as more "benign" than marijuana, which has never killed anyone. ???

Alcohol and/or Drugs.

Meth is the worst ever. Meth epidemics are so brutally scary... they destroy the lives of anyone who uses, and those of the innocent people who live near Meth labs.

That being said, I think the war on drugs is a terrible idea. We're crowing our prisons with minor offenders, not dealers, but users, which I think is retarded. Also, just like in the prohibition, the fact that drugs are illegal helps out organized crime.

I believe that most controlled substances should stay that way. Meth, Heroin, Cocaine, these are drugs that ruin lives.

But Marijuana is only known as a controlled substance because of the racism of the time it was listed as one. Marijuana was primarily used by Hispanics at the time, I believe, and it was because of political maneuvering and not legitimate health reasons that it was made illegal.

Marijuana is more healthy than tobacco. It is better to smoke than cigarettes (though both are quite damaging to the physiology in that sense) and it is WAY WAY better to eat a pot brownie than to chew tobacco. I had a friend whose doctor told him it was more damaging for him to go into a smoky bar every week and not actually smoke than it was for him to smoke weed once a month.

Weed is an effective treatment for Cancer, Anorexia, Crohns Disease, and others.

If it were legal and controlled by the government, we'd a) deal a blow to organized crime and foreign economies, b) have a treatment available to the general public that works to alleviate symptoms of serious diseases, c) have more room in our prisons, and d) be able to profit off of what is already one of America's favorite pasttimes.

Those are my 2 cents.

Orig: I only WISH I could turn into Oscar Wilde for Valentines Day. Where did you learn that skill?

I will be remembering those brave gangsters who died in the Valentines Day Massacre. You know what they told the police when the cops asked them who shot them?

"We haven't been shot."

And then they died.

Worst sickness thing

Asthma. Freaking sucks when you want to go out and play, or want to hit the gym, or want to do just about anything, and instead you just stop breathing can't breathe very deep breaths. Now that I'm older, it's not as bad. But it'll be with me the rest of my life.

I also have asthma and yeah, it really bites. But I manage to work around it as best I can... I just can't help but feel I'd be a better dancer if I could breathe.

I wouldn't trade it for Crohns or anything like that, though. It's a fairly workable illness in contrast to things other folks have.

What the HELL is THIS shit?!

Rasta: I think Headdesk!Picard really says it all.
