DRAKIYTH'S PROFILE

I am an old school gamer who loves to create bazaar projects and I specialize in themes and game play.

I have also been running the Crappy Game Reviews for over 4 years now. My old channel was hacked by somebody I used to live with and the games were removed. I have a new channel now.

Subscribe if you love watching shitty rpg maker games get reviewed. I have a staff on here but I also review a lot of games myself. I also post videos of the projects I am working on here.

Aftermath__Mutation_Psionic.png

I thought I would upload a quick vid of this in action.

NOTE:
Bottles in Aftermath are much like The Legend of Zelda ones. You can refill them with water or other liquids making them very useful to have. Collecting these bottles will be a fun part of Aftermath.

This looks pretty cool. Is that water below the bridge?

Review scoring: standardization, professionalism, etc.

It's common sense of the purest form. If you try to compare indi games with "professional" games you're doing it wrong. Why are you doing it wrong? Well, let's see shall we.

#1: Indi games are usually a single person. Some indi designers might have a small crew of people who help them out.

#2: Game companies PAY people to work eight hours a day to create a game. They also don't accept just anything and have a strict quality assurance set in place.
Imagine if you had a big boss man breathing down your neck while you tried to create your indi game? Yeah, that doesn't fit well for most people who aren't getting paid but instead putting out a free game for everybody.

Most indi developers go through a lot of hard work just to find their game bashed by a JRPG/COD fanboi. The reviewer is completely fucking oblivious to the fact the game was made by a solo artist or small group of people and bash the shit out of it with completely retarded statements like. "Call of Duty is better. This is boring."

There SHOULD be a review a reviewer and if that reviewer gets horrible ratings their ability to review is revoked. The best review of a game or movie is the MOB not a single person's opinion. A group of one thousand people with LIKE/DISLIKE opinions usually tell the truth pretty good. Of course you have trolls who rate everything bad because they are just assholes but not everybody is like that.

As far as the rating system goes. I think "Wording" would be more user friendly. Just like that person at the beginning of this thread suggested.

Such a filthy world!

What was the point in making a blog for the whole of 2-3 sentences?
Instead of just having 3 sentences used for a blog, why not add screenshots, feature mentions, etc. added into it too to get more people interested? ;3
Also, 'layer'* instead of 'lair' in case you spelt it wrong.

Nice catch on the "Layer".

Well, if you want to see a screenie of the filth work, I can't argue.

Could it not have been done as an event and a char tile? Still looks good.

It's possible to do it that way too Harbin, just a bit more of a pain in the ass. Especially with pass, no pass, height etc. My custom map TileE chip is looking pretty solid and it's not even 80% full.

That's awesome dude.
What can we expect to find in cars? Are the the treasures chests of Aftermath? :P

All kinds of different shit. I added an official game play video and took many of the unpolished ones down. Enjoy.

Oh yeah, I bet it was a bitch.
They mesh very nicely though, did you have to resize them as well?

Yeah, I cropped the normal picture of the car, set it to 128 by 96 (4 blocks width and 3 blocks height) cut it out, pasted it in MS paint, carefully painted around it with the color I use for transparency. Took that product and put it IrfanView, screwed with the Contrast, Gamma and Saturation until it looked similar to the art style of the tile set. (Set these side by side and compared them) Added the color for the semi-transparency which is a dark grey I use in the shadowing. Overall, it took a while but I think I did I good job in adding my own custom stuff that fits with the map.

I plan on adding more too. Most of the vehicles you see in this will have the paint burned off them.

Very cool, well done!

Thank you! This is tricky to do and requires a lot of contrast, gamma and saturation changes.

Button Mash - Forcing the player to use different skills

I personally feel a lot of designers get lazy when it comes to originality or making their skills unique. I am a huge fan of multiple choices, themes and flavors to get through a game with. Having one skill that does it all is nice but it gets tedious and pretty goddamn boring after a while. I can see party members aside from your main protagonist using their own built in things, but the main character needs a lot of variety and customization.

"extra goodies" = their blood right?
right?...

You're not a vicious killer who tries to murder innocents. You're just born differently and are scary.
However, since you have an insatiable blood lust you may sometimes in fact get their blood.
The Vampire mutation gives you features of a vampire but you're not going to burn up in the sun
or have to feed to survive because it's not a full fledged demonic bloodline like the Bram Stoker
or Anne Rice books. You're also not undead.

why would you play as a vampire if you don't even have to try?
Draikyth, I'm getting the feeling that vampires are stacked and it relatively nerfs all the other mutations. Am I right?

What I meant by "You don't even have to try as a Vampire" was the fact when you initiate dialogue with "some" people they will be afraid of you and give clues or items automatically. You're just a scary person it's not your fault or you even trying. The other mutations actually have their own things to get the said items as well. These items are usually the important stuff like bottles for storing liquids and other unique things. I will make sure all of the mutations have something cool they can do outside of combat.

COUPLE SPOILERS
Few examples.

Earth and Storm: Electric - Power up a copy machine and gain the same unique items as frightening.
Super Human: Strong - Break off a pipe that has a bag stuck in it with the same items as frightening.

I'm guessing they have some major weaknesses in areas where other mutations really shine.

This is a pretty cool idea to be fair. I guess suggestion is just "Jedi Mind Trick"?

You are correct sir.
