Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~

Yep. Funny, though, since "Ferdinand" was only a name I used for testing, the first name that came to my mind.

Going commercial?

Thanks for the explanation, hima.
At least no one can complain about the model of "release free but hope for financial compensation from nice people"...except maybe the developer.

But how does that model work with respect to paying any minions one might have? (artists, scripters, composers, etc)

Testing

I'm back in business now :)

Thanks Turtle and Marrend for that. Both problems should be fixed in this version.

Going commercial?

And there are a surprising amount of ways to distribute games and still make profits. Microtrans are the ones that everyone loves and hates, but there's the Radiohead approach of pay-what-you-feel-like, there's deluxe versions, etc...

Can you tell me me more about those, or point me to where I can learn? Never heard of Microtrans, etc.

The Customer Is Always Right - Perception Of Designer & Player "Responsibilities" In Amateur & Commercial Video Games

I very much agree that there ought to be a distinction between criticism for the sake of players and criticism for the sake of developers. But is there any reason that criticism for the sake of the developer cannot be conducted through the existing PM system, or, if it's informal, through the comments? If you have something critical to say to a developer about his game, why must it be broadcasted to the community at large in the way that reviews here are? I think that reviews really should exist to serve the players.

Going commercial?

Do you make games for money?
Not yet.

Given the chance, would you work on commercial games?
Yes, but only if I could work at my own pace.

Do you aspire to make games for money one day?

Yes, I've been feeling the pressure from several directions to start making commercial games. I've been told by more than one person that I should be doing that. However....

Why would you NOT make games for money?
I have doubts about my own ability and about the commercial viability of the kind of niche games I like to make. I'm another one of those people wishing for a way to distribute a game for free and still somehow make some money.

No need, Marrend. I'll make a news announcement and add it to the front page of the website...eventually. I actually haven't tried any of this out myself yet. My computer died last week and until I get it fixed or buy a new one (still deciding) I am having to use other peoples' computers just to get online. But I am watching what you all are doing with interest.
A translated psd will be useful to people. Thanks, Turtle!

Resident Evil 6

I hope they've changed the inventory system from 5's. God DAMN. RE4's inventory was great and then they go and do that in 5. /me shakes head in despair.

It was a necessary simplification for the sake of online multiplayer. No time to be managing a big complicated inventory screen when other players are firing with/at you.

I loved RE4. Musta played through it 10 times. But that turned out to be nothing compared to the endless hours I sunk into RE5. Mercenaries and versus were SO addicting.

@lordNight
Those two lines together create a story with a condition that is impossible to fulfill, which means that the Story cannot be selected for play on its own (for instance, when the player lands on a story icon on the game board). However, since conditions are ignored when a Story is branched to, such as through the JUMP command, a Story with impossible conditions can still be played by branching from another story.

A common reason to do this is to mark that the player has picked a particular dialogue choice. Effectively you are creating a switch, or boolean variable. Since the scripting language lacks explicit variables or switches, you can make a Story act as a switch in this way.

If you keep looking through that file, I am sure you will find a later Story with CONDITION 20 DONE. This later story will not be played until the two-line story has been played. The two-line story is most likely branched to from an earlier story after a dialogue choice or something. Does that make sense?

@hima
That is an awesome idea! Why didn't I think of that? Nice work! I support this.

Thanks for reporting that. The game shouldn't be giving such an unfriendly error message.
The character looks cute btw ;)
