GANONFROG'S PROFILE

I make pixels, write, art unimpressively, and make lists if things that I do in relation to game making websites.

I've gotten a couple of requests from people wanting to see my old Final Tear 3 review, so I reuploaded it here:

I have some mixed feelings about the way this screenshot looks. On one hand, I kind of like the odd photo-realistic style the tileset is done in, but on the other, some parts of it look bad in 2-D. For example, I like the bushes, grass, and stone walls, all things that are relatively flat in real life, but the trees look like awkward paper cutouts. I also see some floating pixel noise on the edges of the path.

I also feel like the confused 2-D/realism look is made all the more thrown off by the solid colored, cartoony character sprite.

All and all, I like the idea of it, but my eyes can't quite make sense of what they're looking at.

I'm alive. Sorry about the absence. I was unable to get online for a couple of days.

Is this an acceptable edit?

Also, I have to admit that I'm a little confused about what you mean by "single frame" for the axe. Which frame are you asking for?

DELETED

I started up the game, but I found myself stuck after the first cave dungeon. I got out into a field with a moogle, and couldn't find any clear ways forward.

I did, however, find a hidden transport event under a tree that brought me inside a building, invisible. From there, I was completely stuck.

Did some example edits to the spear poses, and finished the front and back ones for it. I redid a good bit of the side ones to give the guy a little more balance and slightly more dynamic movement, but I used the same movement blur style. Thoughts? Do you still want me to do the axe for further examples?

Do you kill bugs?

Somehow I missed that. I'll blame the distracting huge picture.

Do you kill bugs?

There's a moth that's decided to make my room home, and I've pretty much just become friends with it. It's my often stupid moth roommate.

For the most part, I tend to be in the category of people who will much sooner take a bug out in a cup than kill it. The one exception is mosquitoes because seriously, fuck mosquitoes. I have O blood too, so they find me particularly delicious.

I'm not particularly bothered by other people killing bugs, though, if they bother them. I guess it puts me off a little if it's unprovoked, but I'm not exactly going to sit there in disbelief if they squish an ant in front of me.

Edit: Also, that leaf bug guy is adorable. Did you ever name him?

While, in general, you have a pretty nice looking sprite there, for the fire bird, a couple of issues are standing out to me a little. The main one being the varied directions of it's wing and tail flames. Flames usually flicker in a certain direction, either reacting to the wind, or simply flicking upwards in the absence of any other outside forces. As it is right now, it just looks somewhat rough and zig-zag-y. It also doesn't make much sense for there to be any shadowing on the one side of the twist above the tail. The fire is making it's own light, so it won't be affected by normal shadowing rules.

The composition of it's design, however, is nice. I really like how it's body is formed.

Alright. I'm heading off to bed soon, but I'll be sure to post something tomorrow. I might try for both a variation of the main character, and an example of a random character in the same style, since a simple sprite edit is rarely a good example of one's ability to sprite as a whole.
