GANONFROG'S PROFILE

I make pixels, write, art unimpressively, and make lists if things that I do in relation to game making websites.

I've gotten a couple of requests from people wanting to see my old Final Tear 3 review, so I reuploaded it here:

Marbleen Hipowtohlouw: Nimin Gaviag

This could be intentional for all I know, but this was blatantly ripped for this game. The same goes for Realism Fighter, which is from Ashens as well.

instead of making actual progress on arbiter (you know, WRITING THE PLOT and such) i've been preoccupied with uh, spriting battleanimations for characters i'm not even sure will make it in

but for comparison, here's how the battlesprites looked in solar tear versus the new ones (they have a bunch of animations, but i'm sucky at making gifs)

i made a few more characters but i consider myself a pretty sloppy spriter; there's a bunch of lazy mistakes present in every frame. then again, i should be focusing on everything but graphics for now but w/e

I have to admit, these are looking a little off, mostly because of their proportions and poses. They both look very stiff, with blue haired girl holding an overly broad, uncomfortable looking stance with a confusing, uneven positioning of her arms. Her left arm also looks rather large compared to the rest off her body. Ponytail girl's pose is a little less awkward looking, but she appears to be leaning forward too far, mostly through the jutting out of her chest. I recommend moving that back by at least one block (You appear to be using 2x2 pixel blocks here, so keep everything consistent to that.). Ponytail also has a rather long face, even compared to Blue, up there. Again, I recommend shortening it by a block.

I do see what you're going for with the style though, making the battlers large versions of the 2003 walking sprites while keeping the blocky style of them. It's interesting, I think has potential to look good. You just need to find a balance between the style and proper proportions.

This looks nice and it's a neat idea, though perhaps you should make the map in the background slightly bigger to keep the words from going off the edge of it? It'd make the whole thing look a bit cleaner that way.

As interesting as the pose is, it looks extremely uncomfortable, if not impossible to keep her balance in.

I do like her costume though, and her hands are looking quite good.

RMN minecraft server

I tried to enter the server and kept falling into oblivion from the moment I spawned. Is this something that happened to the server, or just my computer?

The guy on the bottom with the sunglasses is looking more roughly sproted than the others. There's very little shading on him, the lighting of what shading there is looks incorrect, and a few bits of his body are looking a little blob-like. Mostly his hands and feet.

The boss also looks like he could use more thorough shading. There's just not enough variation in it, and a few spots, such as his big bicep, appear oddly shaped because of it. The lighting is also inconsistent again.

The others look pretty good, though.

Reviewing RMN's Visual Novels

Visual novels with no choices are called kinetic novels. Visual novels with choices that don't do much are bad.

Really, though, I'm not claiming that the label is that important. It's not. This is more supposed to be a flimsy premise for playing and reviewing a bunch of largely unplayed games. That said, I do feel like games should be well labelled enough for someone to be able search for a particular genre and at lease get a basic idea of what kind of games they're going to get. That's far from the case with the Visual Novel tag. Some of these are labelled really randomly.

But yes, visual novels in their most basic sense really teeter the line of games to novels. I'd say they just barely cross over it. Really, you could argue it's a sign of the times. I think it's kind of cool.

Anyways, the Choice review is up. http://rpgmaker.net/games/2491/reviews/1654/

Esoterica is up next.

Reviewing RMN's Visual Novels

Plugs are fine! As long as they're plugs that fit the requirements. The list is rather long as it is, but I'll gladly add these to it and get to them when I can.

Gay Characters

I don't have anything insightful to say about this subject that multiple people who have far more of a right to haven't said already.

However, I feel the need to point out that in the posts feed, a long string of responses to this thread were immediately followed by one on something called "allthegay.png".
