GANONFROG'S PROFILE

I make pixels, write, art unimpressively, and make lists if things that I do in relation to game making websites.

I've gotten a couple of requests from people wanting to see my old Final Tear 3 review, so I reuploaded it here:

I like those very much. I am now going to steal your spriting skills when your guard is down.

Ha. Those are all six years old, but thank you nonetheless! This is a bit more recent, though: http://worldofpaper.deviantart.com/art/Avatar-Sprites-186455420 and I did these guys for Vacant Sky: http://notofadminium.deviantart.com/gallery/4353580#/d1gbrw3

Recent stuff isn't really relevant to the topic, though, so... uh, I'll stop with that nonsense.

Seriously though, I'm flattered that apparently even my old stuff has earned a little praise. My 15 year old self thanks you from the past.

Ye Olde Ancient Screenshots Topique

Way back when, after first joining the RM scene, I tried to make an awful, terribly generic RPG. I wrote 100 pages of script, and drew several pieces of character art and sprites, but never got around to putting the thing in RPG Maker. In the end, it just wound up being too ambitious for 14/15 year old me.

So I don't have any screenshots, but I do have some extremely old and awful art/sprites.

I don't feel like posting a whole bunch of pictures, so here's the ancient DA gallery with most of them in it: http://ganonfrog.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=0

RTP sprites:

I also had these, which I have no idea what I intended to do with:

It's kind of a pity I never got to do anything with all of this. 100 pages of work is a lot to just have to toss. That sort of thing happens, though.

post your picture

I just recently got a new laptop, so I decided to check the quality of the webcam on it today. Not that anything could be worse than "Records upsidedown" like my last laptop.

Though it seems it's certainly not the best, and strangely orange. Oh well. Not that I have much use for it. I've never even posted my face on a forum until now.

Also, apparently I hold my hair to my face when I'm leaning over the computer. 'Kay.

Reviewing RMN's Visual Novels

Yeah, part of the reason I'm doing this is to see if these tags are even accurate. I'm allowing the requirements to be pretty loose, but some of these are definitely stretching the definition.

I doubt I'll get to all of these, but hey. I may as well set some kind of goal.

Cheese Woods? If cheese was feminine.

Reviewing RMN's Visual Novels

The World is Made of Paper is mine, so I can't exactly review it. XD Though I am pretty flattered that it's apparently one of the first ones that come to your mind. I'm making more of an impression than I thought!

As for Re-Alistair... derp. I think that was a case of it being so obvious that it actually slipped my mind. I played it back when it first came out, so I overlooked it out of instinct. I'll definitely add it to the list and give it a proper review. Apparently it got a new release anyways, so it might be good for me to give it another try.

I'll take a quick look at CaA and Narcodis' stuff before adding them to the list, just to make sure they fit the bill.

Thanks for the suggestions/reminding me of the obvious. XD

Reviewing RMN's Visual Novels

As one of the few visual novel writers on this forum, I have set myself a new goal: to review every game on this website with the "visual novel" tag. They will be approached in alphabetical order, and rated both by my usual review standards, as well as how well they hold up in areas specific to the genre. In other words, if someone stuck the tag on a game that doesn't at all fill the standards required for it, they can expect to get chewed out a little for it.

That said, due to the nature of the game that got the first spot on the list, there may be some small exceptions to this.

The current list, in alphabetical order:

Alex's Scar dear god (Played. Review on hiatus.)
Choice (Reviewed!) - http://rpgmaker.net/games/2491/reviews/1654/
Esoterica (Played. Currently reviewing.)
Eternal Memories
Games Journo Story
Grace's Diary
Heartache 101 (Played.)
Hierofania (Played.)
Linus
Maranda
Poetry 2k
Prelude
Re:Alistair (Played.)
Return to Awz
Sister's Storybook
The LCPANES Terminal (Played.)
The End of The Witch of Lorven
The Old Mask
The Sound of Flames
With His Father's Sword

If anyone else knows of any VNs/cinematic RPGs that are not currently on this list, and have a download available for them, then please mention them.

Note: The Vestibule is exempt from this, as it was created by Project BC, a group that I'm a member of. I wasn't involved in its creation, but I feel it's probably best if I avoid it out of the small possibility of personal bias.

Other Note: The World is Made of Paper is also exempt because I made it.

Enelysion Review

@Yuna21: I actually like your art. I think you're a little too hard on it. Didn't you just say that you thought you were bad at Gameplay? Clearly that was wrong, so maybe you shouldn't trust your gut's tendency to doubt you. XP

I'm really glad that the review was able to be of some help, as well! Thank you so much, and, seriously, don't be so hard on your own work. I really enjoyed playing it.

@emmych: Thank you!

I probably wouldn't take too much issue to Yuna keeping the RTP style graphics, since they're at least well made. Really, the only places where I feel graphics changes would help a lot would be in decluttering some of the maps, and making the original portraits.

The Cerebral Symphony Review

@Faenon: I'm glad I could be of help, and it's nice to hear that the passability issues have been fixed.

Though, I guess I wasn't too clear in the review about what my issues with the personality choices were, since both you and kumada seemed to get the wrong idea. Sorry about that. XD What I felt could have been improved was the clarity of what personality mode was most effective against what enemies. I felt that the issue of what choices led to which personalities, on the other hand, were quite clear. If there's a way that you can learn which enemy types are weak to what later in the game, then I recommend that you provide that feature earlier. That's just my two cents, though.

@Kumada: Thank you very much!

I'm going to have to disagree on the point of Luke's lack of control making him more likable, though. While, perhaps, it makes him seem like a more likable person on the surface, I feel like it works against him in terms of character development opportunities. In fact, I think characters tend to be better if they start out clearly flawed, and not in a way outside of their control. If their faults are the result of something within their power to take hold of, then they have the opportunity to realize that over the course of the story, and improve as a person. This makes a character seem much more human and strong. A character that's given a handicap, such as "It's a disorder that he can't do anything about" instead feels a little spoiled by their creator. It makes it a little more clear that the writer wanted to make people like them, and that often works against that exact intention. It's like giving a child extra attention because they're misbehaving, rather than teaching them how to behave. Again, this is just a matter of opinion though.

@Gourd_Clae: Wait, seriously? I didn't think I had any sort of reputation as a reviewer. XD I'm really flattered, though! I'll do my best to try to live up to your expectations!
