My band has new songs... CHECK 'EM OUT

author=WhiteLion link=topic=654.msg8661#msg8661 date=1202352641
My band, Wonderful Spells. Four new ones!

Plus the last two are old ones if you've never heard those.

http://www.myspace.com/WonderfulSpells

We've been described as pop... psychedelic rock... psychedelic pop... psychedelic pop/rock. I dunno. Just listen for yourself.

I'm at work and can't listen BUT

I think that the whole oh-this-band-defies-genre-so-we'll-use-a-million-genres-and-then-say-"oh-but-we-don't-really-know-what-we-play" bullshit is getting out of hand. Music critics always have a hard time classifying Hooverphonic and tend to list a million genres when describing them, but in an enormously classy move, Hooverphonic insists that their music is strictly described as "pop". I really recommend you do something similar because it's sooooo classy to be straightforward.

Which has now been accepted.

Awww man WIP you're a sweetie <3<3<3

Oh, I would also like to suggest that you sort articles differently. The newest ones appear at . . . the bottom?

Just so you guys know, I revised this essay and submitted it as an article to RMN.

Something Recent

Yeah so that last one is hillariously gothic, but it's really well done. It's almost like you're improving with each drawing. You should really, really stick to art, because you show so much potential I don't even know what to say.

I have had HR planned out for months. And though writing these articles have helped me focus my thoughts on game design philosophies, I'm hoping that this does not result in a project reset for HR. I'm going to complete it as I originally planned.

Tales of Hero's Realm II: Legend of the Realm of Heroes Crystal Gaiden will incorporate more of these concepts.

If you finish the game ask me for some music and I will probably write a track or two for you!

That gives me an idea...

You know those memory games, where you have to follow a sequence over and over again, each time adding one new note? That could make for an interesting minigame in RM, and it would be pretty easy to implement...

DIBS!

Whatever you do, don't make it like that puzzle in Star Tropics where you had to not only have a good ear and remember a melody from earlier in the game but you also had to be able to play piano.

Refer to Shadowtext's previous post. I mean, come on--it's just like XP's battle system, but this time you're actually able to decide the names of each character's skill categories, seperately. And there's no bottom battlers, as well. But since you can script the whole thing, the default battle system is a nonissue.

The only thing I'm kind of worried about are the weird flashing textures in the battle background. They look pretty awesome, but is there any way we can just use traditional backgrounds instead?

I have been doing some stuff in RMVX RGSS lately and it seems like a lot of the old features that are replaced or changed, such as having your hero sprites at the bottom of the screen, are still in the codebase but are just deactivated. There are suspicious lines of code with commands like hero_battlers=false and such that suggest to me it would be pretty easy to restore the RMXP-style battle system.

I am hoping to add a Candyland-style minigame as well as a clone of Desktop Tower Defense. We'll see if I have time once I am finished.

Yes, even Final Fantasy does this. Surprisingly early in the series, too. The original Final Fantasy has REALLY tough areas followed by easier ones (Chapter 7- Castle of Ordeals is easier than Chapter 6- Gurgu Volcano?) The WORMs of the desert area help out with high rewards. (Yes, they also can hit hard, but they don't take that much to kill)

You can play the areas in Final Fantasy out of "order" after acquiring the canoe, and sometimes I think that because of the difficulty of enemies that the typically-used path is not necessarily the balanced one. Maybe you are supposed to go to the Castle of Ordeals first? I recall that in one particularly hilarious playthrough, I acquired the airship before entering the volcano and fought the Fire Fiend last. I think I killed her in one hit!

Kentona: Excellent article as always, anyway. I really hope you either write a new series or apply all of these concepts to a complete version of Hero's Realm. Maybe you need to scale back on features?
