What have you done recently?

I have been pooping a lot recently and otherwise have been doing homework with 100% of my freetime. I just threw together a 25-page Powerpoint in three hours =\

My dairrhea has been so bad that I have actually been shitting blood. It really hurts whenever I finish and have to sort of chill out on the pot for a few minutes before I can walk again. I think there's something seriously wrong with me.

I have been writing some music!

So I'm almost completely done with the soundtrack to this game -- that is, the game that this piece of music is from. I was thinking about posting some more drafts here and/or at my blog. The music is really very subtle and quiet and I think it's quite beautiful!

Would you guys like to hear more drafts or would you just prefer that I finish the whole thing and post that instead? I imagine it's only a few weeks away (my composition instructor will flip when I provide an entire symphonic suite as my assignment for the semester, which is an entire music education's worth of composition).

Can we have a blog thread?

Top Ten Topic: Favorite 10 SNES games

author=kentona link=topic=313.msg4021#msg4021 date=1192206002
I am starting a new bi-weekly thread called the Top Ten Topic wherein we list our top 10 favorite whatever-that-week's-topic-is-about and then discuss our lists by pointing out what a moron you are for not including Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

This week's Top Ten Topic is:

..:: Top 10 Favorite SNES Games ::..

(For reference: List of SNES games)
I'll start. I'm adding a link and a blurb about why I like the game.

10. Mega Man X
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_X_(video_game)
The Blue Bomber gets an upgrade in his first SNES appearance, and it kicks ass. Mega Man could upgrade his armor, boots, helmet and buster cannon (and a hidden upgrade capsule housing the Hadouken Fireball). As usual, Capcom implemented precise controls for Mega Man and it makes it a joy to play. This game also introduced Zero, Mega Man's lame badass friend who's cool because he has a BEEM SWODRD!

9. Earthworm Jim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthworm_Jim
Another run n' gun game, but a heck of a lot of fun. I liked the design of Jim, his ability to use his worm body as a whip or helicopter, and the ability to aim in any direction. Plus the game was funny, in a teenager-haha-cows sort of way. The music was good, too.

8. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_World_2:_Yoshi's_Island
Probably one of the best entries in 2D Mario games. It was well made, well designed and a lot of fun to play. It also introduced a lot of Yoshi's moveset, which was used heavily in the later Super Smash Bros.

7. Super Mario Kart
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Kart
Kart racing? Mario characters? Battle Arena? Koopa shells as weapons? Count me in. This game is one of the best racing games, ever.

6. SimCity
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimCity
I spent so many hours playing the game that it deserved this high ranking on my list. The game is simple, with no clear goals, but amazingingly addictive. The SNES version added reward buildings, which was the kicker for me. Catchy music, too.

5. Secret of Mana
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_of_Mana
Secret of Mana uses real-time battles akin to the Legend of Zelda series' games, but with the statistical-based elements of the RPG genre and a unique "ring menu" system. In addition, with its brightly colored graphics, expansive plot, and soundtrack by Hiroki Kikuta, Secret Of Mana has been called one of the greatest video games ever made. I tend to agree. For the longest time I thought the sprite was a girl, though.

4. Kirby Super Star
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby_Super_Star
This game is plain fun. It is the first Kirby video game that allows Kirby to perform a fairly wide arsenal of attacks with a single copy ability, and Kirby's versatility made this game a real joy to play. That, and Cutter is cool.

3. E.V.O.: Search for Eden
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.V.O.:_Search_for_Eden
Probably best described as an RPG platformer, but based on evolution of animals rather than the typical knights and wizards. By eating defeated enemies, players gain "Evolution points" that can be used to modify the creature they are playing as. These improvements include bigger jaws, scales, horns, fins, longer neck, jumping ability, swimming ability, flying ability and more. By evolving, your character gains more hit points, greater speed, stronger attacks, and even certain special abilities such as flight. The story takes place over 5 stages of life's evolution: the Age of Fish, the Age of Amphibians, the Age of Dinosaurs, the Age of Mammals, and finally the Age of Eden. So much fun, and has a lot of replayability.

2. Final Fantasy VI
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VI
In my opinion, the best Final Fantasy game of the entire franchise. Known as Final Fantasy III in North America, I bought this game used from the local video store for $40. It has excellent graphics for the SNES (probably among the best for the entire system, if not the best), an amazing musical store, deep story and addictive gameplay, this game was your typical RPG with everything done right. Plus, Kefka is the best villain ever.

1. Chrono Trigger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_Trigger
This was a very tough choice. Was this game going to be #1 or #2 on my list? This game is RPG perfection, and one of the greatest video games of all time (It came in second place behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the IGN Reader's Choice 2006 list of 100 greatest video games of all time). I still play this game on my emulator every couple of years or so.

This.

Final Fantasy XII

author=MK634 link=topic=295.msg3955#msg3955 date=1192064084
Usually it's a divide between Love X Loathe XII or Loathe X Love XII (Usually)

I love X and I love XII :(

DON'T YOU JUST HATE...

. . . having diarrhea at work and spending half my shift on the pot -- and I have forgotten my PSP at home!

Note that according to www.reference.com, diarrhea accounts for up to 8 million worldwide deaths annually. I hope I survive :'(

DON'T YOU JUST HATE...

NO CONSOLE WARS

I hate the ending scenes for Final Fantasy games, because they are way too long and way too awesome. I've seen them all a million times so I could really give a damn about them anymore, and I really wish I could just skip them. With all three GBA ports, I've finished the game after midnight and I have to wait for the ending scene to finish before I can go to bed. In all three occassions my battery has been in the red, so not only am I frustrated that I have to stay up late, but the whole time I am afraid that my DS will die, rendering the whole persuit in vain.

If you hadn't guessed, I am sitting awake waiting for the FF6 ending scene to roll past so that I can save my game and go to bed. Tomorrow, during my mandatory 3:00 poop break at work, I fully intend on betting the weapon that I stole from the final boss at the colliseum.

Serious injuries

DON'T YOU JUST HATE...

Someone has to defend the underdog :(

I use my PS3 exclusively for watching movies and replaying Ninja Gaiden Sigma (an XBox game) constantly, so it's not like I'm in love with the unit or anything. However, anecdotal evidence suggests it has the highest score for reliability!

Sandfall- New Battle System development

You can still use your "hotspot" system while introducing an element of cover. You just have to place obstacles on the map and then have your system's trajectory calculation detect how the bullet is affected by things that might be in its way.
