Honest Question

Tetris doesn't need graphics, and its control is perfect for what it is.

Tetris has had its control revised several times over its many iterations.

World of Warcraft

They've sold over 9 million copies. It's just that they have over 9 million CURRENTLY ACTIVE RIGHT NOW accounts.

That's basically what I was talking about. Selling a game is one thing, but having 9 million accounts paying $10 or whatever per month is a simply staggering amount of revenue.

Went and got a pizza. Watched The Guardian with Kevin Costner.

I didn't know you were friends with Kevin Costner!! You should introduce me sometime.

Yesterday, I:

- Slept in.
- Went to work late.
- Got home late.
- Installed RAM into my computer.
- Tried to get music software working, to no avail.
- Said screw it, and bought Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines for PC, because it was only $20 on Direct2Drive.
- Played Vampire:TM:B for much of the night. It frequently crashed.
- Would assist Kyrsten in unpacking from time to time, between sessions of Vampire:TM:B.
- Discovered that someone, possibly Kyrsten, has scratched my HDTV.
- Went to bed late.
- Woke up Kyrsten to adjust the mattress.
- Gave Kyrsten a backrub.

Today, I have:

- Slept in.
- Went to work late. Forgot lunch at home =(.
- Had emergency pot pie for lunch. It was not very filling.
- Will probably get home late.
- Might purchase Brave Story for PSP. Either way it is probably videogames all night.

Metal Gear Solid series

I am a big fan of the MGS series as well. There are a lot of really interesting characters, and heaps of brilliant writing. It's good that Kojima's studio goes the extra mile and hires a localization staff that really "gets" the zietgeist of 1980s America. Sometimes, I wonder what the Japanese versions are like, because the games seem so much like American products. I won't really go into detail about why I like the games because I'm sure that everyone else has or will say everything that I would.

I agree with WIP that MGS: Portable Ops had loads of potential but that its horrible controls made it pretty much unplayable. It really should have had the classic overheard camera.

I'm really looking forward to MGS4. I'm pretty confident that enough PS3s will get sold this holiday season that a few people will actually be able to play it, too!

Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI for DS (with scans)

The track record so far has been promising.

I just feel burned because I distinctly remember seeing the same product (Dragon Quest 4 remake) advertised on the back of the manual for Dragon Warrior 7. The Dragon Quest 5 remake on PS2 was never even considered for US release, either. We've always seen plenty of spinoff Dragon Quest titles in the states (like the horrible Taloon game and a number of Monsters titles), but as of yet we have never seen any of the many many remakes of the core games in the series.

So . . . I'd rather not get my hoped up, and be pleasantly surprised. It totally makes sense to release these games in the states, especially since DQ8 was a million-seller (I don't know exactly how many sold, but it is a Greatest Hits title) but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we never saw it.
