Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost

@ theshadow54
did you back track to thief lair in Esrarch in present time ? there is a shard where you fight the Whalemage.

Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost

its a good game, thanks. also i don't like the graphic :P, i guess it was for nostalgic part of it.

after you see the scene with destroyed goddess statue in Illae region, if you climb back up there, the broken statue scene, repeat. well at least i didn't back track all the way :).
i am not sure if you understand what i am saying though :S, if you couldn't understand, tell me to post a screenshot.
sorry for my bad English.

edit:also if you sleep in Illae inn in present time, music change to music of illae in the past.
hmm is there a complete list of all notorious monster locations?
i think there should be a hint from npc of that region. and notorious monster is a very good idea :).

The Drop

I only play PC games, so i am not sure what Etrian Odyssey is. but if its like Wizardy its good :P LOL
in "Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup" after 3 hour of following tutorial, i only remembered 3 keys F, O and G because i used them a lot, i used menu and mouse for other things. what make it complicated was race, class, what skill to train, what equipments, what god to chose based on previous choices. auto explore was a very good idea. i think you may need it too.

i guess players of this genre is super devoted, who want to explore every last bit of dungeon before they go to the next floor (i know, i was), so some kind of mapping system is required. something that tell player, he explored everything.

in "the drop"; gale (one of Lani starting spells) cause some serious lag, in my system,(about 3-4 second) i think its about Force property, all other Force spells caused this lag.

The Drop

wow i loved "Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup", so much customization :), it was a lot like wizardry (in wizardry 8 you can chose to play as 1 person instead of a group of 6)
damage claculation system of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is D&D?
i need to see more of "the drop" to say more. do you want to make it complicated? or it would be for casual gamers?

thanks.

[Poll] Would you sell your game on RMN?

i don't like to make this a personal discussion. but i should explain myself. sorry
being a black sheep, isn't a good thing, and being like anyone else isn't a bad thing. accepting risk is a dangerous game, you can end up being eaten by the wolf, other don't like the way you live, sometimes even you hate yourself. if you are not successful, you are nothing (in the eyes of others). being different is about perspective, not accomplishments, i didn't brag about myself, i just said what i chose, nothing else, and most people chose to be safe. its the rule of survival.

its why we play games in the first place, because we know being different in a game means we will succeed and become a hero. but in real life it is not so simple, there is a very good chance to fall to the bottom, and instead of a hero who help society, you become a burden to the society. its a gamble.
this means i never said being safe is a bad thing, i understand it, its natural. dwarf fortress accepted the risk, however it minimized the risk by having a job and not expecting to become a hero. a lot of others may tried that and failed, if dwarf fortress wasn't successful, developer wouldn't loss anything, he created what he liked and he was happy, the fund for his personal creation is a extra bonus. that's what RMN is.

I never said the rpg maker's obsession with what's "safe" was a good thing.

you can be one of the millions or one out of millions. I chose the second,

hahahahaha listen to yourself

och sorry as i said my English is bad. i mean: you can be one that is like any other, or you can be a black sheep, i chose to be the black sheep thanks for mentioning hopefully i won't repeat this mistake again :)

[Poll] Would you sell your game on RMN?

its all about perspective.
of course my discussion can go both ways, i mean, what reason i give, can be used to argue myself, i just wrote my observations.
yes there are a lot of clone in rpg maker, but not all of them, there are exceptions, and exceptions rule our world. you can be one of the millions or one out of millions. I chose the second, also the first option is safer.

also remember, any opportunist try to look for exceptions.anything that we learned was because we were looking for exceptions, exceptions means we are wrong, we must change, we must develop. following the tradition can work, its safe, but we won't improve anything.
at least this is what i think :P

[Poll] Would you sell your game on RMN?

well i never said, someone can live with donation, with his first game. living purely on donation need a lot of time and luck. its an exponential process, its won't be linear.
dwarf fortress, was a side project for someone, he work on dwarf fortress as a side project. it was a hobby for him. eventually it become so popular that donation was enough for him, so he quite his job and he now can work only on dwarf fortress.
donation would never work for a real company that should meet his clients expectation, because its too risky.

a commercial game need a lot of work, and its aim is to satisfy majority of people. people here create games mostly because they want to show their feeling, their talents.

if a developer think about how much he will sell, he don't think about his own feeling, he want to create something that is good for majority, he won't risk, he will repeat what was successful, i think its opposite of what RMN is.

what i am saying is not set in stone, not every developer think like that but a lot of them will do, its how economic work.

now what price you want to give to your game anyway? when there is so many powerful company, with prices as low as $5, do you want to buy a old successful game from GOG or do you want to buy a rpg maker game? consider that only two games reached 20k download, when its completely free. if dwarf fortress set a price right from the beginning how many would buy it? I believe it would never had such a success, and it would never had such a high profile.

[Poll] Would you sell your game on RMN?

i am not a developer and i am new to RMN, but when i see games like "dwarven fortress" that lives purely on donation, i wonder why not make a donation system? instead of making a game commercial just let people donate to the developer they like to.

it encourage people to create real good games.

also a new sorting, "most donated game", it can bring corruption, (a developer who donate to himself) but what good it give him? only some useless attention.

sorry for my bad English.

The Drop

well Ro9ge you were right, it seems character creation is very good already. (a lot better than what i suggested). it probably need some balancing though. but i still like to see trap spells :D

btw can someone tell me a good example of a rouge like game? one that is free so i can get familiar with this genre (i thought i know everything about rpg :S)
