How long should demos be?

Demos are not the entire game. They are showcasing the game and its features, but not the entirety of the game.
So, you can make it as long as you want, as long as it does a decent job of showcasing your game to others.

Though, one thing that did bug me a little was that there was a lot of text (it's probably just me!). Though, it did have a nice text speed so it is bearable (again, it's probably just me and hating excessive amounts of text in games).
One of the lines of text didn't make sense: "Elated at the news that took almost fifty years to arrive, everyone was elated" ???.
I do like the nice effects you have on that world map of yours! It's really nice ;).
