I did the backlog of username changes. if I missed your request, PM me.

I personally like my new name. xD

I want to change my username to polarcactus for some weird reason. It's my reddit username and I've come to like it a lot. ><

The name just came to me for some weird reason, like a Purple Cow title. I mean, in RL I'm neither prickly nor icy xD.

And Gourd, it took me only so long to realise your name really is a play on a clay gourd lmao.
@Infection: Yeah... I know. But new year, new me, I guess? xD
@Sooz: Moi? Whacky? Nevaaaar. Maybe whimsical.

I wondered what happened to you...

Am I RMN's mapping king yet?

You need to best Blindmind and several others before you get that accolade yet. xD

How do you guys, and girls map so well? No matter what I do my maps looks pretty bad. Tutorials don't seem to help me for some reason. What could I try differently?

Fill it up without clutter.

Think you misread my post, Libby. xD

And keep nature as 'organised chaos'. We don't want to see trees, plants, shrubs, flowers etc. planted in neat little rows in wildernesses, unless its in a park, mansion, royal grounds etc.

I think all the well-known level designers on this site should get together and compose some sort of 'Mapping Bible' with examples of our works.

I tend to use this rule of thumb a lot. Take the default map size of whatever engine you're using and try to make just that one area look visually interesting. Fill it up without clutter. Like Craze said, keep the eye moving. Then you can expand the map and move it around.

And never, ever start making a map in the editor that starts at 40x40, 50x50 or more, because I can guarantee you it's going to look horrible. Not to mention, the level designer would probably feel a bit stumped as to fill out all that blank space. ><

why do people think adding random beams of light on daytime maps look good? THEY MAKE NO SENSE! >_<

Maybe because most of the guys who use those heavenly rays have no idea how to add atmosphere to their maps. :/ The opposite applies to horror games. They just slap on some cheap lighting effects and too-dark rooms.

I ditched the heavenly rays of light a while ago. I just prefer to use a cloud overlay to create light and shadow.

Anyone from RMN headed to PAX in Boston? RPMaker has an official booth this year! :D

What's also amusing is that the game got next to no attention over at RMW, the official site, but was universally praised here.

They were playing Phantasy Star on the last ep of Adventure Time.

I haven't played PS4 in more than a decade, but I still remember all 14 combination attacks. Off the top of m head:

triblaster
firestorm
blizzard
lethal image
black hole
purifying light
holy word
silent wave
conduct thunder
shooting star
circuit breaker
grand cross
paladin blow
destruction

Good times.

@Craze: I will bear that in mind for my next PS-inspired game. >:D

Omg indeed. Someone still needs to make a battle system like that for RPGMaker, with programmable macros/combinations attacks and what not. :D
