I want to change my username to polarcactus for some weird reason. It's my reddit username and I've come to like it a lot. ><

I like the imagery!

those look like tiny Marlboros

Just applied for a programmer role at a games company outside of London! Quarter-life crisis in full effect

Oooh, exciting! Cheers, dude :D I hope you get it!

If I were streaming, there'd be two cams: one for the work, and one for an inset livestream of our guinea pigs :3

What kinds of games would guinea pigs make? Probably ones about food? Or about being adorable?

if all you're gonna say to describe a screenshot is "nice atmosphere," dig a little deeper into your well of feedback and criticism

If I got something out of it, I would post feedback.

The joy of helping a fellow game developer! Also you get points for reviews..!

That said, it is nice for devs to get some feedback on their images or even gamepage. So let's resolve to give a bit of column A and B - point out the positives but also give some feedback to help each other grow! X3

I think everyone likes positive comments.
useless comments are useless to a developer. it's pointless to say "nice atmosphere" just because somebody tinted the screen grey. to other responders: a lack of comments on rmn is a problem too, but it's not the same problem

They're useless as criticism; they're not useless to indie devs making little games who might appreciate a morale boost & a little reassurance that someone enjoyed their game! Not everyone on this site is a dev :P It seems fine if someone wants to voice a quick thought without going Ebert on it, y'know?

Sometimes you really like a thing but you can't express why! Not everyone's got years of experience and a finely tuned critical eye :P And it can be really nice getting little compliments... I'd say it's worth it :)

That said, if you're looking for slightly more complex or helpful compliments, you could always say how something made you feel, such as, "this scene is really peaceful" or "woah, this is intense!"

(note: not a zero-sum game. if you think something is bad you should provide actual critique instead of "this is bad".)

What's the story with your Username?

When I was a kid, I drew a comic series about a kid named Slash. He was a stereotypical shounen character in every way (sword, headband, big spiky hair, kind of dumb - he looked like Crono) and he had a little pet that was a rip-off of Pommy from Bomberman.

I sold those comics for $.50 a pop, I made a killin'. I only ever finished two issues tho... I have old, old copies somewhere.
